Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Bernadette, strive to better know, love, and serve God, through the teachings of

His Son Jesus Christ and the graces provided to us through His Holy Spirit and the Sacraments.

Dear Parishioners,

In the Navy Chaplain Corps, someone is given the title of the Grey Shepherd. This is a Chaplain has been on active duty the longest time. It is a recognition of not only longevity but also of the notion that a Chaplain is also a Shepherd in the service of God and those who are served. This Good Shepherd Sunday, always the Fourth Sunday of Easter, reminds us of the image of someone who loves us as ourselves yet leads to good things. Even in our present age of a faster paced and more urban world the image of a shepherd can give us a sense of peace and trust. Many people in our lives and in our world, take on various roles of shepherding and remind us the model of the true shepherd, Jesus. Today is also Vocation Awareness Day and a time not only to pray for religious vocations but good shepherds as well.

God Bless, Fr. Dave

Fourth Sunday Of Easter Page 4 May 7, 2017

Question of the Week Fourth Sunday of Easter

Called to be shepherds Reading I Acts 2:14, 36-41 (Peter’s discourse) Reading II 1 Peter 2:20-25 (for the slave) Gospel John 10:1-10 (the Good Shepherd)

Key Passage: [The shepherd] goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. (John 10:4) Adult: How are you a shepherd to those in your care? Child: What will you do this week to show you love those around you?

Reflection The sheep follow their master because they recognize his voice. How do you listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd? To discern and hear our Lord requires practice. We practice being aware of living in God’s presence, listening in prayer, immersing ourselves in the Scriptures and identify-ing our story in those stories, knowing him in the breaking of the bread and in the poor and needy.

CELEBRATE EASTER 4th Week of Easter

My sheep hear my voice. I know them and they follow me. John 10.27

Good shepherds care for their flocks, or employees, or clients, or students as they do for themselves. They accompany their flocks through danger, drought, and dark valleys.

Hear what God’s voice directs you to do in your daily life. Be a caring friend and co-worker this week, especially to those who seem outside the flock or in danger.

Prayer of the Week Lord, you are my shepherd.

Let me hear your voice.
