Easter Sunday of the
Resurrection of the Lord
April 12, 2020
A Word from your Pastor
Happy Easter! May Alleluia be our song! Yes, even this year as we find ourselves separated from family and our community of faith. Do you remember how our Lenten journey started? Do you remember the story of Jesus taking His disciples to the mountain top. There He showed them His connection to the Patriarchs Abraham and Moses. He showed them that He was the continuation of the story and it was confirmed by the voice of God from heaven. Easter is the story of a transfiguration moment. It is the story of Jesus rising from the dead and appearing to the women and His disciples. The transfiguration story ends by Jesus taking the disciples back down the mountain and telling them not to tell anyone what happened. We will hear about the reaction that the disciples have to the news of Jesus rising from the dead. They hide. They hide because they don’t know what to say. They have no explanation. We will hear that Jesus comes to them despite locked doors. Jesus addresses their fear and gives them what they need to move out. Let us embrace this transfiguration story to reshape us. As we find ourselves staying at home with the gift of the great story of Easter in our possession. May we welcome Jesus despite fear and locked doors. May the story give us what we need.
Be blessed and safe! - Fr. Carroll

Pray for...
Mass intentions are being honored while there is a suspension on all PUBLIC Masses. Fr. Carroll is celebrating the masses not at the scheduled time of the day but at some point in the day so that a crowd isn’t assembled. Know that the intention and all of you are being remembered during this time.
A Prayer for this Pandemic
May we who are merely inconvenienced Remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors Remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent. May we who have the flexibility to care for
our children when their schools close Remember those who have no options. May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those that have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all. May we who settle in for a quarantine
at home Remember those who have no home.
As fear grips our country, let us choose love.
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors. Amen.

VOCATION REFLECTION
SACRAMENTS
CHRISTIAN FORMATION
In this time it is important that you know that the Church will do its best to respond to the pastoral and sacramental needs of its people. Out of concern for us all, we need to be mindful that we do not do things to encourage others to leave home. It is essential that our local church throughout the diocese work together in supporting a united effort. Any parish attempting to be ‘heroic’ will only draw more crowds than normal contradicting the mandates. We also have to be concerned about the dignity of the Sacraments. The sacrament of reconciliation and anointing can be available in danger or death or serious sin. Until the stay at home policies are lifted, the sacrament can not be offered. “Drive thru” or distance opportunities invite people out. Funerals will only be celebrated as a graveside service. A time of visitation and Memorial Mass can be celebrated at a later date. Weddings can not be celebrated at this time as a marriage license can not be obtained from the Clerk of Peace until the state of emergency is lifted. Baptisms - our next scheduled baptism is April 26. At this point we can not confirm that that will happen. Baptisms will resume when we are in the church on Sundays.
Our Lenten sacrifices have hopefully put us into greater solidarity with all who suffer. Rejoice in your love and overcoming hardship together.
MARRIAGE MOMENTS
It is a time for us to remember that even when we are hurt or in pain, Jesus is with us and understands - and that is good. He overcame death and so will we.
PARENTING POINTERS
FIRST COMMUNIION After discussions today, we have de-cided to move the May 7 First Com-munion Mass to Saturday, June 6 at 10:00am and say our prayers that that can happen. We realize that the last day of our school is June 5. It is our hope that this would be a nice way for our second graders to end this different
year of school. We will be communicating about ways that together we will prepare the children for this special day. Parents, start talking to your children about what it means to miss church and not receive communion (The Eucharist). Your are the “first and best teachers of your children in the ways of faith” as the Rite of Baptism declares.
The Church has been closed for visitors. Initially, it was part of our weekday plan as we entered into the last phase of painting the ceiling. When masses were suspended last week, we decided to leave the church in work mode and not clean up the plastic covering, etc for the weekend and let the work progress. In our current status, our generous painters and scaffolding crew will be expanding the project to include the dome over the altar. When we can, we will enter into our church in its new glory! Let that anticipation give you hope. I will communicate when any access to the church will be possible.

Continuing our mission to serve. During this unprecedented time, our St. Elizabeth community is still committed to our Benedictine mission of responsibility to self and service to others. We are thinking of all of those in need during this pandemic, and we are doing our part to help.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2020 representatives from the St. Elizabeth Athletic Department, spearheaded by Athletic Director, Marvin Dooley, set up a drop off location out from of school and collected food item donations for the Food Bank of Delaware. The Viking community came out in full force, dropping hundreds of items off during the two-hour drop off period. Many also contributed monetary donations for The Food Bank of Delaware.
Thanks to the outpouring of support from our school and parish community, our Athletic Department filled two of our 12-passenger vans full of donations. On Thursday, April 2, 2020 Coach Dooley and his staff dropped of our donations to The Food Bank of Delaware. This has
been just one of many acts of kindness during this time where our Vikings are giving back to the community. Thank you, VKNation! Student spotlight of the week for our #ActsofKindness Spirit Challenge: Junior, Abbie Townsend! Together, Abbie and her mom, Rebecca, have been sewing masks for local nursing homes and hospitals as part of the initiative of the Facebook group "Help for Healthcare Workers Delaware". The group was started on March 20, 2020 and as of today has almost 2,000 members that have created nearly 5,000 masks to local healthcare centers. The group has volunteers like Abbie and her mom that are sewing masks, in addition to others that are delivery drivers that drop off the masks to healthcare locations. Thank you Abbie & Mrs.
Townsend!
These are our Vikings, just doing their part to
help in this time of uncertainty.

LITURGICAL MINISTERS
Once we know when we will be back together and celebrating Mass in the church, we will get new minister schedules out to all of you.
Thank you for your service to our Parish.
From Bishop Malooly - Distribution of Palm - In light of the increasing restrictions going into effect in the State of Maryland and anticipating similar restrictions for the State of Delaware, the distribution of palm is not to take place in any form. Parishes that are able to can keep the palm in a cool, dry place and distribute them after restrictions are lifted.
If you are worried about fulfilling “Easter Duty” which is that “Catholics should receive communion once a year and in order to do that be in the state of grace” note that we have most likely already done so this year. The precept gained it’s name encour-aging the fulfillment of this in the Easter season. The Easter season, like every year, will go until Trinity Sunday: June 7. As stated in communication, I am available for the sacrament of confession at the rectory or outside but since the reception of the Eucharist is currently not available, the need for the sacra-ment should only be necessary for those in serious sin and needing the healing words of Christ. When we arrive at the oth-er side of this pandemic, I will schedule extra confession times.
How you and your family can celebrate Easter today!
Gather to watch Mass at 9am Livestreamed from our church or schedule a time to view later. Have an Easter Egg Hunt in the house or backyard. If you don’t have candy, create family coupons or gift cards with promises! Create an Alleluia Banner together and put it in your window or on your front door! Decorate your dinner table with a cross, flowers and a symbol of resurrection - an egg! Call or Facetime family! Call one person that you miss seeing from church. Create a video singing your favorite Easter Hymn and post it on your Facebook page and/or share with us. Decorate the egg below and send it to us by any means for us to create a basket
full to display online and have for when we see one another in church again! Give thanks for life, for love, for a God who is with us!
