THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, JUNE 28, 2020

THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone who has continued to pray for our One Family

Rooted in Christ Capital Campaign! Through all of the faithfulness of the SEAS community in their prayer and commitment to their pledges, we were able to pay off the debt to the Diocese during the month of May! This great news means that we have completed the 1st Tier of the 3 tiers of the campaign. ~ Tier 1 - Pay the debt off ~ Tier 2 - Replace the outdated HVAC equipment in the church and parish hall. Repair the Tower Leak – Plans are in place to finally locate the source. Put money away for future maintenance needs. ~Tier 3 – Beautify the inside of the church With Tier 1 complete and much of Tier 2 complete, we are able to begin to look at the inside of the church. Hopefully you noticed, the Cross has been moved up into the stained glass window (thanks to Father Thomas and summer seminarian Holden Berg) and plans are in place for moving the Tabernacle behind the altar with some additional wall coverings to enhance the Tabernacle. Glory be to God for your faithfulness in your continued giving to our campaign!

We welcome Fr. Stephen Felicichia to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. I've asked Fr. Stephen to "take over" my column for this week! God bless. P.s: Say a prayer for the Lord to bless and protect this newly Ordained Priest as he serves God and His people.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, Greetings! Father David has asked me to do a brief introduction, so here goes. My name is Father

Stephen Felicichia. I was born and raised in Fort Wayne, growing up in Waynedale, about 20 minutes away. My home parish is St. Therese where I received all my sacraments of initiation and attended grade school. I attended Bishop Luers High School and graduated in 2004, and immediately entered the United States Military Academy. Upon graduation in 2008, I was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Officer (which is partly why I can’t hear very well). Shipped up to Anchorage Alaska January 2009, I was attached to an airborne unit, serving in two deployments to Afghanistan, and was honorably discharged in 2013. Throwing myself on the mercy of Bishop Rhoades I was accepted into Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Maryland in 2014 (the same seminary your honorable and holy pastor attended). By the grace of God, I was ordained a priest of Jesus Christ this past June 6th. It has been a great delight to meet some of you piecemeal-and I look forward to the time when I will be able to meet and get to know all of you. In Christ, Father Stephen Felicichia

From Seminarian Holden: Immediately following the Collect is the beginning of the Liturgy of the Word. This is one of the most easily recognizable parts of the Mass, as it consists of two readings, a psalm, the Alleluia, the Gospel, and is followed by the homily. There are many things I could focus on in the Liturgy of the Word: Lectionary Cycle, liturgical seasons and their specific readings, the importance of the Psalm and its covenantal implications. The thing I really challenge all of us to do is to listen to the Word of God. We believe that Sacred Scripture is Divinely inspired. In lieu of this is it not Christ who is present and speaking to us through The Bible? This listening is fundamental for active participation in the mass. It is the whole congregation's responsibility to open their hearts and minds to God’s Word throughout the readings and the homily. This openness allows us to hear what God is saying here and now. Just as the Sacrifice of the Mass is made present here and now so is God’s Word. What is truly important is hearing the Word and taking it to heart, allowing God to move us through His Words. Simple ways to help us be more open to God’s Word are by reading the weekend readings the night before as a family. Close your eyes during the readings, it limits visible distractions and allows us to better listen. Learn to relinquish control in other areas of life, thus openness to what God is saying or telling us rather than what we want God to tell us. Be patient with yourself. We all get distracted. God works through it, the struggle for perfection pleases The Lord, for it shows you care enough to put forth effort or in other words carry our cross.

FROM THE DESK OF FR. DAVE

5 SEEK TO GROW IN CHRIST

Frequently Asked Questions about RCIA

What is RCIA?The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process includes a series of classes for people, whether unbaptized or baptized in another Christian faith, who are interested in learning about the Catholic faith with the possibility of becoming Catholic, or for baptized Catholics who desire to complete their initiation by receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and/or Eucharist. The goal of the RCIA process is to form lifelong followers of Jesus Christ and His Church.

What is the level of commitment?RCIA classes begin meeting in September through Easter. Classes are on Monday evenings from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

What if I am not sure if I even want to become Catholic? That’s okay! Many people have questions about Catholic teachings and practices. The RCIA process allows participants to get answers to these questions and to form a sound foundation about the Catholic faith. The format allows a prayerful discernment about becoming Catholic. There is NEVER any pressure to become Catholic though.

What if I am divorced and/or have been married more than once?Never fear…we still want you to come and check it out! Since every divorce and/or remarriage situation is a little different we will discuss with you what, if anything, is needed before starting the formal RCIA process. Carole Yaney, our Director of Formation, can help coordinate this for you.

What is a sponsor and how do I get one?

What if I have a child and/or teenage who wants to become Catholic?Excellent! Children and/or teenagers participate in a RCIA process that is modified based on their individual circumstance. Contact Carole Yaney in the parish office for more information.

Who do I talk to if I still have questions?Interested individuals should contact Carole Yaney in the parish office at 260-432-0268, ext. 107 or at [email protected].
