The Most Holy Trinity—May 27, 2018
As a six-year Navy veteran, I remember those who have
served and have since gone to God, whether they perished
in battle or died after serving their country valiantly. I have
been privileged in my travels as a sailor and as a tourist to
visit the National Cemeteries of Oahu, Hawaii, Normandy,
France, and Bourne National Cemetery. To see the amount
of memorials symbolizing the individual sacrifices made so
that I may enjoy the freedoms that I do is, in every sense of
the word, sacramental. Those symbols really bring home to
me the sacrificial offering made on the altar of freedom
each one of those soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines
made in the name of our country and its Constitution,
carried out both as individuals and collectively. The cost of
freedom is made so apparent if you ever get the chance and
have the privilege of visiting these, what I consider to be,
shrines.
As a member of a family, both immediate and extended, I
appreciate how important it is to recall the memory of our
loved ones. I will remember those buried in this great
country as well as those buried in the fatherland. I will try
to count my blessings as I remember those who gave up
everything to come to these shores and started over so that
I could have a better and freer life.
Finally, let us remember that we all belong to another
family, our family of faith, of which we claim Abraham as
our Father as his adopted sons and daughters. There are the
martyrs of our family, both those of the early church and
those who are the victims of the current persecution against
Christians. Perhaps our ancestors are from a country in
which they were made to suffer for being a person of faith,
a believer.
Before I close, I wish to share with you just how much of a
blessing it has been for me to serve you. I am grateful to
the parish’s staff and all those who volunteer their time and
talent to St. Elizabeth Parish. I could not have done it
without you.
This Memorial Day, let us make sure to take the time to
pause, remember, and pray for those who offered their
lives for our country, our freedom, our better life, our faith.
Milton’s Memorial Day Observance will at the Cemetery
beginning at 10:00 AM. Yours truly will be offering the
invocation and the benediction.

Dear Parishioners and Extended Family Members,
Praised be Jesus Christ!
Memorial Day, a day when we pause as a nation to
remember our deceased. We do well to keep this in mind
amidst all the chatter of a long weekend, destinations, and
the “unofficial beginning of Summer.”

For Celiac Sufferers
At St. Elizabeth’s, we have low-gluten
hosts available made by Benedictine nuns
in Clyde, Missouri, that contain less than
0.01 percent of gluten. Medical research
has deemed this level to be safe for most celiac
sufferers. Please alert the priest before Mass if you
would like to receive Communion in this manner.
