Returning Family Reenrollment for 2020-2021 Setting Record Pace
Current Parents Urged to Re-Register by February 20 to Ensure Seat
Alta Loma Christian School head of school, Dr. Vance Nichols, announced today that returning family re-enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year is already coming in at a record pace, and urged current families who are planning to return to re-register as soon as possible. “While the discounted registration fee for our returning families is in effect through February 28, seats for returning families are only guaranteed until the night of Open House, February 20,” explained Dr. Nichols. “Once Open House begins, registration will be open to new families, and all classes will be on a first-come, first serve basis until they fill.” Once a class is full, a waiting list will be established until enough students are on the waiting list to justify opening a second section. Re-enrollment forms continue to be accepted in the school office. For more information, please contact ALCS Office Manager and Enrollment Coordinator, Mrs. Olivia Cleland. Thank you for your continued support of an award-winning Christian education at ALCS.

100 & 101! Big Numbers! Fun Days!
Alta Loma Christian School’s Kindergarten classes led the way in celebrating the 100th and 101st days of school with creative projects and dressing up like Dalmatians! Thank you Miss Carpenter and Mrs. Brewer for showing us how much fun learning can be, especially when you blend math and art. Now we’re all seeing spots before our eyes! Eagles Jump Out to 2-0 Season-Opening
Record in Boys Basketball
Eagle Hoops Recap by Coach Jordan Dedeaux
his week marked the beginning of Alta Loma Christian School Boys Basketball for the
2020 season and 2019-2020 school year, as our 5th-8th grade Eagles opened the season
on the road with a contest at Carden Arbor.
With the nerves of the unknown for the first game pulsing through the boys, they had an
opportunity to channel weeks of practice into performance during a game. The Eagles started
off with a bang, quickly jumping to a large lead during the first half of the game, holding Carden
Arbor under 10 points. This was
accomplished with the defensive intensity
of many contributors. The starting five
players—D.J. Harris, Jaspreet Singh, Sammy
Dahabreh, Elijah Garner, and Zachary
Slusher—set the tone of the game with a
suffocating defense that created a major
challenge for the opposition. While many
who watch the sport find their joy in the
ball going in the bucket, what really stood
out was the defensive prowess of this
Eagles team. They gave themselves easy
layup opportunities by causing turnovers of
possession and forcing tough shots for the
opposing team. Zach, in his first start, was
everywhere on the basketball court displaying his effort on defense, just the same way he
practiced. His hard work was a joy to watch on the defensive end, causing many turnovers for
our Eagles.
D.J. and Eli showed their experience on the court, helping to lead the offense. Both made shots,
but also distributed the ball to their teammates. What really impressed the coaches was the
teamwork utilized in this game by all the boys, which is a required standard in order to play for
this team. The Eagles gave a great effort, dominating the flow of the game to a huge win.
Final score: ALCS 65, Carden Arbor 22.
The Eagles followed their tough first week of game play with another visiting trip, this time to
Water of Life. Compared to the full control shown during the first game, the Eagles would be
challenged in a physically tough game against Water of Life. Playing a fairly large team that
plays physically strong, the ALCS Eagles would have to take their game to another level. This is
what makes the sport of basketball a true joy to watch, when two competitive teams play a

tough game against each other. This was a true test for our Eagles, as they did not experience
that same tough play in the first game.
As the saying goes “to make a long story short,” our Eagles passed this test.
Again led by the offensive prowess of D.J. and Eli, the Eagles matched
the intensity of the opposition with tough drives to the basket, as well
as precision shooting from outside the three point line. Sammy led a
great hustling effort by being all over the court for loose balls and
rebounding. Matthew Wong provided very important minutes coming
off the bench, controlling his defensive responsibilities on the court. Jaspreet
provided key minutes guarding some very strong opponents, moving his feet on defense and
bringing down some important rebounds.
The Eagles remained ahead of Water of Life the entire game, although the score remained close
the entire way. The Eagles finished the week off with a tough win, in a very close and hard
fought battle.
What is really impressive is the way they played this game. In physical games, it is so important
to display sportsmanship through every play. The Eagles not only played hard, but they kept
cool heads, as well as hearts that displayed what playing for the glory of God means. This game
could have gone either way and the energy of this game is exactly what a basketball coach
enjoys.
Final score: ALCS 51, Water of Life 46.
The Eagles completed this week with a 2-0 record. However, as they say in their huddles, their
record is 0-0 as they have big games next week with their first home games of the season. They
will have to display humility when they hit the home court and keep working hard to keep their
momentum going.
The boys’ basketball team
looks forward to having our
first home games, and
welcomes everyone to come
out and support our red and
black hoopsters. Go Eagles!

“What’s amazing about Gen Z is
their willingness to do something
about what they believe is wrong.”
— Axis. (January 31, 2020). “Three Things This Week: The Anxiety of Gen Z.” The
Culture Translator Blog, Vol. 6, Issue 5.
INJUSTICE IN OUR WORLD TAKES MANY FORMS. People are
hurting, and many things happening around us contribute to those negative emotions. If left unchecked, injustice inevitably leads to a loss of hope. From climate change to human trafficking, ethnic prejudice to threats against religious freedom, wildfires to local families in need, our students—Generation Z—long to right what’s wrong, to make an impact for good wherever they can. And we absolutely love it. This willingness to do something about the wrongs they see around them is just one more reason why we love working with our kids. Although the young people of this generation realize there are some things that are out of their control, they also have a growing awareness that there are many areas where they can make a difference. A big difference. So here’s to the students of Alta Loma Christian School, our world-changers. The most remarkable kids in the most remarkable school in the Inland Empire.

2nd Annual Alta Loma Christian School Cultural Heritage Day is Coming February 7!
Alta Loma Christian School will celebrate its 2nd annual Cultural Heritage Day on Friday, February 7! The festive day of learning and fun will begin at 8:30am in the chapel with a Joyful Song Choir performance, a brief message, and then a class-by-class display of family heritage attire, beginning with preschool and kindergarten. The festivities will continue afterward, as classes are encouraged to showcase the heritages and customs of students’ families in their individual classrooms. Parents, please watch for this information in your student’s class newsletters, in each week’s issue of EagleLink, and in emails from the school notifying the ALCS Family of Cultural Heritage Day details. Last year’s inaugural event was such an overwhelming success, we can hardly wait to see and experience what’s in store this year!
