Liturgical Law in Sacrosanctum Concilium and Its Implementation.

Raymond Leo Burke was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He attended the Holy Cross Seminary in La Crosse, Wisconsin (1962-1968) and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where he received the degrees Bachelor of Arts (1970) and Master of Arts (1971). He continued studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University Rome in theology (1971-1975) and canon law (1980-1984). He was ordained to the priesthood by Pope Paul VI on June 29, 1975, at Saint Peter's Basilica. After his ordination to the priesthood, he served at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman in La Crosse, Wisconsin and taught religion at Aquinas High School in La Crosse. In 1989, Pope John Paul II nominated him Defender of the Bond of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura.

Nominated Bishop of La Crosse on 10 December 1994, he was consecrated by the Pope on 6 January 1995 at St. Peter's Basilica. During his time in La Crosse, he founded the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe which was dedicated on 31 July 2008.

He was promoted to the Archdiocese of St. Louis 2 December 2004 and nominated a member of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura in 2006. On 27 June 2007, he was one of several Prelates who reviewed with Pope Benedict XVI the proposed text of the impending motu proprio Summorum Pontificum liberalising the

use of the Tridentine Rite. On 6 May 2008, Pope Benedict XVI named Archbishop Burke a member of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, which authentically interprets canon law, and also a member of the Congregation for the Clergy. On 27 June 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura. In October 2009 he was appointed a member of the Congregation for Bishops.

Cardinal Burke established the Institute of Sacred Music in Saint Louis during his years as Archbishop of Saint Louis.

Cardinal Burke was created a Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church by Pope Benedict XVI in the Consistory of 20 November 2010 and assigned the diaconia of Sant’Agata dei Goti.

Cardinal Burke is about to publish a book on the Holy Eucharist entitled: Divine Love Made Flesh: The Holy Eucharist as the Sacrament of Charity

Introduction to Sacrosanctum Concilium

D. Vincent Twomey is a member of Ratzinger Schulerkreis. Born in Cork in 1941, Professor Twomey grew up in Cork, where he attended Christian Brothers College. He entered the Divine Word Missionaries in 1963. After philosophical studies at Donamon, Co. Roscommon, and theological studies on the Pontifical University, St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, he was ordained priest on 6th January 1970.

After ordination, he spent a semester in Münster, Westphalia, studying under Karl Rahner, before transferring to the University of Regensburg to do his doctoral studies under the supervision of the then Professor Joseph Ratzinger.

On completing the doctorate in 1979, he taught in the Regional Seminary of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands for three years as Professor of Dogmatic Theology. After this, he was appointed professor at the Divine Word Missionary Theology Faculty at Mödling, near Vienna, Austria.

In 1983, he was appointed lecturer in moral theology on the Pontifical University, Maynooth, and was subsequently made Professor. He was also Visiting Professor on the Theology Faculty of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, in the Summer semester 1983.

Since 1978, he has been a member of the Ratzinger circle of doctoral and post-doctoral students that meets once a year for a week-end seminar. In 1986, he founded

The Patristic Symposium, at Maynooth, to promote the study of Patrology and has organized seven international conferences on the subject. From 1997-2006, he was Editor of the Irish Theological Quarterly. From 2003-2011, he was Coordinator of the Religious Studies component of the Higher Diploma in Primary Education, Hibernia College, Editor-in-Chief of The Word, 2004-2008. Since September 2006, he is Professor Emeritus. In 2006, he became a member of the Board of Directors of FertilityCare™ Centers International as well as the Irish and European Boards. Since 2007 he has been Patron of the IONA Institute for Religion and Society, Dublin. In 2008, he was elected a member of the Board of Trustees, Joseph Ratzinger/ Benedict XVI Foundation (based in Munich/Salzburg). In 2009, he was Honorary President of the Classicist Association of Ireland.

At present he is Vice-Provincial Superior of the Irish and British Province of the Divine Word Missionaries, and Rector of the SVD House, Maynooth.

Dr. Mariusz Bilinewicz

Fifty years of Sacrosanctum Concilium: A review of the theological critique

Mariusz Biliniewicz, 32-year-old Polish national.

In 2005 obtained MA in Biblical Theology at Pontifical Theological Faculty in Wroclaw (Poland) through research work: "St. Peter and His Position in the Church According to Saint Matthew's Gospel".

In 2011 obtained PhD in Systematic Theology at Milltown Institute of Philosophy and Theology in Dublin (Ireland) through research work "The Theological Background to the Liturgical Vision of Pope Benedict XVI".

In 2013, he published The Liturgical Vision of Pope Benedict XVI

Since 2004 lives and works in Dublin.

Dr. Carmina Chapp

Sacrosanctum Concilium on the Centrality of Liturgy in the Apostolic Life of the Church

Dr. Carmina Chapp has been teaching theology at the undergraduate and graduate levels for over 20 years, particularly in the area of sacraments, liturgy, ecclesiology, and spirituality. She has a doctorate in Roman Catholic Systematic Theology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. She began her teaching career at DeSales University. From there, she moved on to Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, where she served as Academic Dean of the Religious Studies Division, which serves the non-seminarian population. She currently teaches graduate and undergraduate online theology courses for Saint Joseph College of Maine. She lives on a small farm in Northeastern, PA.

Fr. Sven Leo Conrad

Liturgical Act or Liturgical Celebration? Some Considerations in the Light of Sacrosacntum Concilium and Presbyterorum Ordinis

Fr. Sven Leo Conrad was born in Koblenz (Rhine) in 1972. He went to a private school run by the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. In 1997 he was ordained to the priesthood for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. He than worked in the staff of the Fraternities General House. Afterwards he studied liturgy at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome and holds a licenze in Sacred Liturgy. The topic of his license paper was about the Liturgy of the Abbey of St. Matthias in Trier in the late Middle Ages.

At the moment he is writing his doctoral thesis about the „Theology of Liturgy of Joseph Ratzinger“.

He currently is in charge for the newly established house of studies of the German-Speaking District, which is located in Bettbrunn (Bavaria) and dealing with liturgical studies and especially the contribution of Mons. Johannes Overath to Sacred Liturgy.

He is also the Secretary of the Fraternities German Speaking District.

He has given conferences and published articles about the Theology of liturgy of Joseph Ratzinger and a few other topics concerning liturgy.

Prof. Robert L. Fastiggi

The Mass as the Sacrifice of Christ and the Church according to Sacrosanctum Concilium.

Robert Fastiggi, Ph.D. is Professor of Systematic Theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, MI. USA where he’s been since 1999. From 1985–1999, he taught at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. He holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Theology from Fordham University. He is a board member of the Society for Catholic Liturgy and the Mariological Society of America. In addition to his own publications, he is the co-editor of the English translation of the 43rd edition of the Denzinger-Hünermann Enchirdion symbolorum (Ignatius Press, 2012) and the executive editor of the 2009–2013 supplements to the New Catholic Encyclopedia (Gale Cengage Learning in cooperation with the Catholic University of America). Dr. Fastiggi and his wife, Kathleen, are parents of three children: Mary, Anthony, and Clare.

Dom Paul Gunter, OSB

"Per ritus et preces" and "fideles scienter": A study of these directing characteristics for active participation in the reform and promotion of the Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council.

Father Paul Gunter OSB was born in 1966 in Wolverhampton, U.K. and grew up in Shakespeare's town of Stratford-upon-Avon. He has been a monk of Douai Abbey, Berkshire since 1985 and was ordained priest in 1991 after graduating in Theology from Heythrop College, University of London. Over ten years of parish ministry followed, first at Cheltenham and then as parish priest of Studley in Warwickshire. He defended his doctoral thesis, "Edmund Bishop and the Genius of the Roman Rite", in 2006 at the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy in Rome where he had completed his license in Sacred Liturgy two years previously. Since 2006, he has been a professor of the same faculty in Rome. He teaches a number of courses on the history of liturgy and on the theology of the liturgical year in the Roman rite, has written articles and given various conferences. In 2008 he was named a Consulter of the Office of the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff.

Padre Serafino Lanzetta F.I.

Sacrosanctum Concilium in the Light of the Liturgical Reform

Padre Serafino M. Lanzetta is a Franciscan Friar of the Immaculate. Professor of dogmatic theology at the Theological Institute “Immacolata Mediatrice” (Sassoferrato, Italia) of the Friars of the Imaculate. Doctor in Sacred Theology in 2006 with a thesis on the unique priesthood of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Il Sacerdozio di Maria nella teologia cattolica del XX secolo. Analisi storico-teologica, Frigento (AV) 2006, he is preparing the habilitation in dogmatic theology at the Theological Faculty of Lugano (Switzerland), with a thesis on the hermeneutic of the Second Vatican Council. Fr Lanzetta is also parish priest of the Church of Ognissanti (Florence) and the chief director of the theological review Fides Catholica. Ultimately has published Iuxta modum. Il Vaticano II riletto alla luce della Tradizione della Chiesa (Siena 2012) and Avrò cura di te. Custodire la vita per costruire il futuro (Verona 2013).

Prof. Dr. Manfred Hauke

The dogmatic discussion on Concelebration from Sacrosanctum Concilium to the Present (SC 57)

Manfred Hauke was born in 1956 at Hannover (Germany). He spent his youth at Paderborn (Westfalia, Western Germany). He completed his in philosophy and theol-ogy (1975-1981) with a doctorate in theology (directed by Leo Scheffczyk whom Pope John Paul II in 2001 created Cardinal). His ordination to the priesthood (1983) was followed by four years of pastoral work as a chaplain in the industrial area of Dortmund, Hagen. In 1987 Hauke became assistant to Anton Ziegenaus, at the Uni-versity of Augsburg (Bavaria), where he prepared his habilitation in dogmatic theolo-gy (1991). In 1993 he was called to the Theological Faculty of Lugano as professor for dogmatic theology. In 2001 he also assumed the chair of patrology. In dogmatic theology, he specializes in mariology. His scientific publications span the whole area of dogmatic theology. He has published monographs e. g. on the Priesthood of Wom-en (doctorate), the doctrine of original sin in the Greek Fathers (habilitation), Confir-mation, Feminist Theology, the theology of Cardinal Leo Scheffczyk, the mariologi-cal initiatives of Cardinal Mercier and on Mariology. He also does some pastoral work in the German speaking community at Lugano. Since 1992 he is member of the "Pontificia Academia Mariana Internationalis" (PAMI) and since 2005 president of the German Society for Mariology ("Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Mariologie", DAM). He is the editor of the scientific series Collana di Mariologia (since 2002). He is also coeditor for the series Quaestiones thomisticae (since 2007), and the re-views Sedes Sapientiae. Mariologisches Jahrbuch"(since 2004) and Forum Katholis-

che Theologie (since 2007). He is editor of the review Theologisches (since 2010). Since 1996, he is member of the editorial committee of the Rivista teologica di Lugano (since 2009 also vice-director); member of the Coetus consultorum of Ephemerides Liturgicae (2007); and a member of the Advisory Board of the review of the Theological Faculty of Kosice (Slovachia), Verba Theologica (2010).

Prof. Dr. Helmut Hoping

What Reform? The Hermeneutics of Sacrosanctum Concilium and the Liturgical Renewal

Born in Meppen (Ems) in 1956 Helmut Hoping is married and has two children. Following studies in Theology from 1976-1982, he was appointed Hochschulassistant at the University of Tubingen (1982-1996). He was awarded a doctorate in theology in 1989. In 1991/1992 he undertook post doctoral research at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D. C.. He was appointed to the Faculty of Catholic Theology in the University in Tubingen in 1995. 1997-2000, he was Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Luzern in Switzerland. Since 2000 he has held the chair of Dogmatic Theology and Liturgy at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany) and since 2008, he is dean of the faculty of theology.

Ralf van Bühren

Sacrosanctum Concilium – Sources and post-conciliar reception of the liturgical constitution

Born at Bad Kreuznach (Germany) in 1962, Ralf van Bühren graduated with a Master of Arts at the University of Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität ) in 1991 and in 1994 took the D. Ph. in Art History at the University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln), Germany and the Licentiate in History of the Church at the Pontifical Univer-sity of the Holy Cross, Rome, in 2003. In 2006 he was awarded the Doctorate in Ec-clesiastical History also at the University of the Santa Croce, Rome.

Professor of Christian Art History, Pontifical University of Santa Croce, Rome (School of Communication, School of Theology), his research focuses on Art Histo-ry and Church History with emphasis on the relationship between Architecture and Liturgy (in the 4th – 21th centuries). He is also interested in the reception of the Sec-ond Vatican Council.
