in the recruitment and mentorship of physicians and other anesthesia care providers. He is an active participant in the long-term strategic development and vision, which led to the expansion of LIAP. This important development includes the inception of a multi-specialty group which doubled the number of Interventional Pain Management physicians on the medical staff. The addition of general surgery created an increased access for these services in the community at large.
Throughout his tenure at St. Charles, Dr. George has remained an active and involved participant on the medical staff. He has served in numerous capacities, including St. Charles Hospital’s Board of Trustees (2000-2008), Medical Board/Medical Executive Committee, and Past President, Secretary/Treasurer and Member-at-Large of St. Charles Hospital’s Medical Staff. He has held the position of Trustee member of the Medical Society of New York State in Suffolk County, served on the Continuing Education Committee. He is currently the Chairman of the Operating Room Committee. Under Dr. George’s leadership, the Department of Anesthesia has adopted a sub-specialty approach to anesthesia care, with frequent didactic sessions, lectures and workshops all geared to improved patient safety and satisfaction. Dr. George works closely with St. Charles Administration, notably the Pharmacy Department to streamline the introduction of new, improved medications to the formulary, while remaining conscious of budgetary restrain. His leadership in the Operating Room has been instrumental in providing an inviting atmosphere and far-reaching anesthesia services, availability and care which allow our surgeons to grow and expand the scope of their practice to better serve the community.
Dr. George has volunteered for medical missions to Ecuador with Blanca House. In addition to providing exceptional anesthesia services during those missions he remains an excellent teacher, mentor and role-model for student volunteers participating on missions with Blanca House. Dr. George lives in Poquott with his wife, Ingrid. The couple has two daughters, Margaret Alexandra and Elisabeth Anne.
