Closing #32—The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns
St. Charles Borromeo Church November 29, 2015
This is the First Sunday of Advent, signified by the lighting of the first candle on our Advent wreath. It is also the first day in the new Church Year.
But this year there is even more significance to these days. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has called for a Year of Mercy. This holy time will begin on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Tuesday, December 8 2015 and will conclude on the Solemnity of Christ the King, Sunday November 20 2016. One of the most ancient practices of our Faith is the pilgrimage. The idea of God’s people on a journey, under divine protection, is found clearly in the Scripture: the Hebrews journeyed forty years to reach the Promised Land. Jesus made the journey to Jerusalem and endured His Passions and Death so that we might have eternal life. The Second Vatican Council described the Church as a Pilgrim People moving through this world on our way to eternity. An important element of the pilgrimage is the arrival, at journey’s end. This gives us the image of the Holy Door through which we enter our goal. The Holy Door of Mercy in Rome will be opened at St Peter’s Basilica on December 8 by Pope Francis. Here in the Diocese of Cleveland, Bishop Lennon will open the Holy Door at St John Cathedral (East Ninth at Superior Avenue) on Sunday December 13 at 10:15am (just prior to the 10:30am Mass). Bishop Lennon invites St Charles parishioners to join him for the event. For the next year, those Holy Doors, in Rome, in Cleveland, and around the world, will welcome the faithful to come, to cross over the threshold, and to experience God’s mercy. The image of the open Doors will invite all to “enter and let God’s mercy flow to you. Leave and carry God’s message of mercy to others.” The motto of the year is “Merciful like the Father.” In mercy, we find proof of how God loves us. He gives His entire self, always, freely, asking nothing in return. Pope Francis asks us throughout this year to reflect on and to deepen our practice of the corporal works of mercy (feed the hungry, drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, visit the confined, bury the dead) as well as the spiritual works of mercy (counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offences, bear patiently with those who do us ill, pray for the living and the dead.) We will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confessions) after all Advent weekend Masses (except the Sunday 5:30pm Mass) beginning today. For this first week of Advent, there will also be two Penance Services, with individual confessions: on Wednesday afternoon, December 2, 1:00 till 2:00pm and again on Friday evening, December 4, from 7:30 till 8:30pm. This is a Fifth Sunday of the month. Following our parish custom, there will be a second collection at Mass today for the St Vincent de Paul Society of St Charles Borromeo Parish. There was lots of information in last week’s bulletin about our 2015 Advent Giving Tree. Additional information can be found on the flyers on the church/hall bulletin boards. You will find a December Parish Activities Calendar in this bulletin. Please “clip-and-keep” it for reference.

Thank you!!!
Merici Chapel… Wish List — I wish I had made that phone call to someone I hadn’t spoken to in a long time. I wish I smiled to that person waiting on me in the store. I wish I had told him or her I loved them or that they were doing great, or did a good job. I wish I had… We never know when time is up. Most important on that wish list to go & visit Jesus in the chapel. You don’t want Him to say to you when you meet Him — why didn’t you come & visit me. I was waiting for you!

First Sunday of Advent November 29, 2015
Many parishioners have asked where Market Day went. Over the summer the PTU's primary fundraising tool closed so the service is no longer available. Not to worry - We have replaced it with Schwan's Home Delivery service. You may know Schwan's as they have been around for many years providing delivery of high quality frozen foods right to your door. What's nice about this program is it is all online (or over the phone) so no need to come to school to pick up your order.
Beginning November 11th & continuing through December 26th, any orders placed with Schwan's will earn the PTU bonus funds that go directly to the children of St Charles School. After that we will continue to earn funds through the end of March. To place your order:
1. Visit Schwans-Cares.com 2. Enter Campaign ID: 24522 into the search box located
in the upper right hand corner then click to open campaign. 3. Click "Shop to Give" and then select either the "Buy Now"
or "Shop Now" option. 4. Start shopping!
Or, call 1-855-870-7208 and provide Campaign ID: 24522 Once you place your first order, you will receive a product catalog and you can place all orders via phone and select your method of payment. Please take the time to order some great food for the holidays and support the students of St Charles School. Please direct any questions to [email protected] and thank you for your support!
