A Message from Fr. Jim . . .
“Jubilee Year of Mercy”
As you have probably heard by now Pope Francis has declared an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. This Holy
Year of Mercy will begin December 8, 2015, the feast of the Immaculate Conception and the 50th anniversary of
the closing of the Second Vatican Council. It will close November 20, 2016, the Feast of Christ the King. This
year’s motto is “Merciful Like the Father.”
Recently there was an insert from the Archdiocese regarding the Year of Mercy and suggestions on how we
might celebrate the year. I hope you had a chance to read it and perhaps decide on how you and your family
might participate. Ideally, Pope Francis is calling on all of us to put into practice in an even more emphatic way
the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. A prayer card describing these Works and a Year of Mercy Prayer
by Pope Francis is available this weekend in church. Please feel free to take as many of these prayer cards as you
like and distribute them to family and friends.
In addition to our focus on the Works of Mercy the Church invites us to experience the mercy and forgiveness of
God through the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to think about extending mercy and forgiveness to those who
have hurt us in the past by their words or actions. It is very appropriate that we begin the Year of Mercy during
the Season of Advent for this can be for us a season of grace and peace. These weeks of Advent are an invitation
to set things right with God and with one another. The imagery presented to us through the writings of the Prophet
Isaiah describe “the wolf shall be the guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the
young lion shall browse together, the cow and the bear shall be neighbors.” To be able to place aside one's differ-
ences and accept, respect and love another person despite their faults and failings is sometime a very difficult thing
to do. It takes a lot of patience and also a lot of support and strength from our faith in God. Forgetting the past is
sometimes hard, but if we continue to dwell on past hurts and failures we do not allow ourselves to grow and to
carry on with our lives. All of us have made mistakes in our lives. Yet, God is an all loving Father who forgives us
unconditionally, and who loves and accepts us for the people we are, the sinful people we are. We, too, must be as
forgiving and accepting of one another as we are. God has given us an example of how to live and love. If the
“wolf can be the guest of the lamb” and “the cow can be neighbors with the bear” we can live with our brothers’
and sisters’ shortcomings.
It is my sincere hope that the Year of Mercy will be a period of grace for each of us; a period of grace to realize and
accept God's unconditional mercy, forgiveness and love in our lives, and to share that gift of mercy, forgiveness
and love with one another. There will be much more coming regarding our celebration of this special year but in
the mean time I invite you to visit the following websites for more information:

God bless you always!

Christmas Caroling
Do you know anyone who is need of some extra Christmas cheer this holiday season? We have a small group that visits some of our homebound parishioners and will bring them a little Christmas joy with the songs of the season. If you or someone that you know of would like to join us or receive a visit from some Christmas elves, please email their name, address, and phone number to [email protected] or call Suzanne at (262)210-6697. Help us bring Christ's love to those that need some extra joy!
Thank you for all your prayers and support. I appreciate all that
you have done for my family and myself. Your generosity with
the bake sale, helping with school projects, and personal mes-
sages, notes and cards have reinforced my love for the St.
Charles community and my decision to be a part of it. Through
you all, God has blessed me. May God bless you in return!
Blessings,

MINISTERIO HISPANO
