Merici Chapel… October — the month of the Holy

Rosary. Our Blessed Mother said that if we want peace

in the world, we need to pray the Rosary daily. Try and

stop in the chapel and say a Rosary for peace. Look at

the condition our world is in. The Prince of Peace is

waiting for us in Merici Chapel.

    ANOINTING OF THE SICK

    Saturday, October 21 & Sunday, October 22

The Anointing of the Sick will be administered

at all of the Masses on the weekend of

October 21/22. No registration is needed.

Come enjoy an autumn treat of coffee and donuts with your fellow parishioners

after the 8:00am Mass Lower Parish Hall

Every year, for two weekends in October, the

Bishop’s Office asks all parishes in the Diocese to

count the number of people who attend Mass. This is

called “the October Count.” The figures are used to

assess parish vitality, check demographic trends, and

help with the assignment of clergy. So on October 7-8

and again on October 14-15, our ushers are asked to take that

count—at homily time—and then record the total on the Mass

Attendance Form in the priests’ sacristy. Thanks for your

    patience!

From childhood we know that we are called to discern and

live out God’s will for us and we learn what God’s will is for us in

our prayer. I recently ran across these “Ten Practical Tips for

Talking to God.” I have found them helpful for my prayer; I hope

    you do, too.

St Charles is blessed to have Merici Chapel in the Parish

Activities Center. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed there 24/7

for personal prayer and adoration. Stop by the Parish Office for

    the door opening code.

Parish Council members are reminded of our meeting this

Thursday, October 12 at 7:45pm, JPII Room of the PAC. Please

bring hard copies of the five “Be My Witness” parish evaluations

sent to you by e-mail last month. Be prepared to offer your

    suggestions!

Choose a specific place to pray. Choose a place away

from distractions; they can sabotage your quiet time before

    it gets started.

    1.

Try to pray at the same time every day. Make it part of

your daily routine and it will soon become a good habit.

    2.

Pray out loud. Praying “just in our minds” can be a ticket

to dreamland. When we pray out loud, we have to make

intelligent sentences. We then concentrate on what we are

    praying about.

    3.

Pray simply. Talk to God in everyday language. God

delights in simple words of praise. He treasured the cry of

the parent who asked “Heal my child.” God answers

simple requests like “Give me the strength for today.”

    4.

Read God’s Word. Reading Scripture helps us get to know

God. It brings life to our prayers. Read the Psalms. Pray

over a Gospel verse. Let St Paul help you to pray for

    yourself and others.

    5.

Embrace silence. Silence can be scary, but it is a healthy

part of prayer. Otherwise, prayer can become self-

directed and less open to the unexpected ways God wishes

    to respond.

    6.

Make prayer an integral part of your day. Scripture says

“Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing.” That means

start and end your day with prayer. Lift up short prayers

to God throughout the day. Pray when you hear troubling

news for your spouse or child(ren). Look for “prayer

    moments” in your day.

    7.

“Shake up” your prayer routine. Include praise, thanks,

petition, and sorrow. And don’t be afraid to sing!

    8.

Keep a prayer journal. Record whom and what you

prayed for and write down anything revealed to you during

    prayer.

    9.

Pray expectantly. Prayer can be lifeless when we are not

looking for a response. Jesus told us to expect answers.

    10.

"Encourage others to pray and ask God

for help in their times of need."
