In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks “Do you also want to leave?” We must ask ourselves if we really want to hear the good news of his love for us and for others. Is the word of God able to break into our consciousness, change us and call us to hear the cries of the poor?

As you give your gift to the poor through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, in your heart you also will find the good news of God’s love.

St Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term financial help for parishioners and those living within the parish boundaries. Please call 847-437-6208. Requests will be handled with care and confidentiality.

Religious Education News

Grammar School Religious Education

We respectfully request that all RE Registrations be submitted by next Monday, August 31 to the Parish

Office. Class lists will be finalized on that day and all materials readied for our opening session on Septem-

ber 2. All families and students are to attend the Opening Mass at 6:30 PM. Meetings and class will follow.

Catechists Needed

We are still in need of an afternoon Catechist in

our Wednesday Religious Education Program.

As a parish family, we are all responsible for pro-

viding a quality Catholic education to our minor

children.

A Catechist is a person of faith who shares the

Good News with others. Although a teaching

background is very helpful, many successful cate-

chists had no previous formal teaching experi-

ence. There are requirements of Catechists by

the Archdiocese which include a 3 hour Virtus

Training Course and a criminal background

check. Training in Lesson Planning, classroom

management, leading prayer, etc. is provided in

a variety of ways to make sure the catechist is

comfortable in this ministry role.

Let’s not disappoint any of the children or turn

anyone away because we do not have sufficient

adults willing to share their faith with our chil-

dren. For more information, please contact

Mary Catherine at the parish office or at

[email protected].

High School Confirmation/Teen RCIA

Several families have come forward with high school aged chil-

dren interested in preparing for the sacraments of Eucharist and/

or Confirmation.

This year we will offer a special class for high school students

who wish to do an in-depth study of our Catholic Faith to pre-

pare for Confirmation in October of 2016. We will be incorpo-

rating what is normally 3 academic years of preparation into 14

months of study, liturgy, youth involvement, and service experi-

ences. Students will be required to attend Wednesday night

classes most weeks during the academic year from 6:30-8:00

PM. There will be weekly homework and other parish activities

in which the students will be required to participate, including at

least one mission trip next summer with the Youth Ministry as

well as other parish liturgical and Youth Ministry opportunities.

Those who have not been baptized or received their First Com-

munion will have a brief meeting after the 10:30 Mass on Sun-

days.

For more information or to register, go to the parish website:

stceciliamtprospect.com and click on Religious Education and

scroll down to the section on Registration. Download the form.

Completed registrations and tuition can be dropped off at the

Parish Offices or mailed, Attention: Mary Catherine Meek.

Parishioners of St. Cecilia

With Special Needs

Did you know that our church is ADA Acceptable?

We have pews for those with special needs located in the front and in the back of church. These pews have

spaces for wheelchairs and walkers.

We must KEEP the aisles clear for safety and village regulations.

Parishioners should arrive 10 minutes before the start of Mass so an usher can assist you.

The Usher will also help the Eucharist Minister bring Communion to you.

Thank you.

Pope Francis Designates Sept. 1 as World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation

VATICAN CITY—Like their Orthodox brothers and sisters, Catholics for-mally will mark Sept. 1 as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Crea-tion, Pope Francis has decided.

The day of prayer, the pope said, will give individuals and communities an opportunity to implore God’s help in protecting creation and an oppor-tunity to ask God’s forgiveness “for sins committed against the world in which we live.”

To help parishioners learn more about the recent Encyclical Letter of Pope Francis, “On Care for our Common Home” (Laudato Si’), the Faith Formation Commission will offer bound copies of the Encyclical for sale ($13) next weekend after Masses on August 29 and 30. This copy, pub-lished by Our Sunday Visitor, includes extensive footnotes and study ques-tions. We plan to have a discussion of the Encyclical during Lent after our Mission which will focus on many aspects of Social Justice.

BACKPACK MINISTRY “Feeding Children One Backpack at a Time”“Feeding Children One Backpack at a Time”

Our Respect Life - Backpack Ministry continues to help feed public school students within Mt. Prospect who do not get enough to eat on weekends. Many children receive school sponsored food during class time, but are left without food Saturday and Sunday. Hungry children have lower test scores, diminished learning ca-pacity, and increased behavior problems.

We collect kid-friendly food on the fourth weekend of each month during the school year. Future bulletins will again list the needed items. This food is then packed every other week for 12 children. One weekend’s packed food is delivered each Friday to the district social worker who then puts the food into donated back-packs for the children. Backpacks allow the children to remain anonymous. Help us show hungry children that God loves and cares for them!

***We are looking for help to head up the Backpack Ministry. If you wish more information

and would like to help, please call Fran Ficker at the parish: 847-437-6208.

GOD'S WORD TODAY

Decisions. Life is filled with them. Decisions are pre-sented in the first reading and Gospel proclaimed to-day. The Israelites are asked to choose whether or not they will continue to serve the Lord, the God of Israel. In voicing their choice to continue serving the Lord, they call to mind all the wonderful things that God had done for them. The disciples in today's Gos-pel reading are also faced with a choice. Many choose to turn away from Jesus because his invitation to eat his body and drink his blood is too hard a saying. Pe-ter and the Twelve, when asked if they, too, would abandon Jesus respond, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." We, in a way, repeat these words every time we come to Mass, for in fact there is nowhere else we can go to be fed by the body and blood of the Lord and hear words that will bring us eternal life. Remem-bering all the wonderful things that God has done for us, we choose to come to Mass to give thanks and praise to God.

Retrouvaille…A Lifeline for Marriages

retrouvaille.org

The word Retrouvaille(re-tro-vi with a long i.) is a French word meaning rediscovery. This program helps couples heal and renew their marriages and offers tools needed to rediscover a loving marriage relationship. Do you feel lost, alone or bored in your marriage? Are you frustrated, hurt or angry with your spouse? Are you constantly fighting? Some couples come during the initial signs of a marriage problem and others are in a state of despair. The Retrouvaille Program consists of a weekend experience combined with a series of 6 post-weekend sessions. The tools learned here will help put your mar-riage in order again.
