The Diocese of San Bernardino is blessed with people who are moved by the grace of God’s love and mo vated to share that love with others. With the increasing demand for re red priest care, this is our opportunity to reach out to those who within our own diocese have spent their lives caring for our spiritual and sacramental needs. Let us thank them with a dona on for their long and loving service. Currently there are 37 Re red Diocesan Priests in our Diocese. All dona ons help con nue building our Endowment Fund to assist these Diocesan Priests in their long-term needs of ongo-ing health care, health insurance premiums, auto insurance premiums, housing, funeral expenses and infla onary costs. Your dona ons also assist our Re rees with emergency medi-cal expenses. Your generosity in this important appeal is greatly appreciated by our Re rees. Thank you for your generosity in this important appeal for help! God bless you.

    Brothers and Sisters,

On this twel h Sunday in Ordinary Time we honor our fathers. Today we hear Jesus reassure his disciples by reminding them of the tender care of his heavenly Father. Our heavenly Father watches over us, faithfully, lovingly; every hair on our heads is accounted for. It helps to remember all the mes our own fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, foster fathers and father figures-living and deceased-made us feel safe and secure with their ever vigilant care. When a television sta on interrupts their regular programming with “breaking news”, they close by say-ing something like, “We now return you to our regularly scheduled program already in progress.” Today we return to the gospel of Ma hew, already in progress this liturgical year. However, we have not heard from Ma hew in over two months. Were it not for the “special report” of Easter, Pentecost and other solemni es, we would have heard last week. Jesus send his twelve disciples on their mission to announce the Kingdom of God. Today we hear Jesus tell them not to be afraid for the Father watches over them. Fear is one of our most primi ve ins ncts. It has been said even a baby can experience fear, and throughout life, no ma er how old we are, we never manage to shake off all our fears. For the past few months. men, women, young people and children have gathered around computer screens, I-Pad screens, television screens and even I-Phone screens to celebrate live-streamed Mass. There we all sit solemnly, impassively. But behind these masks of expression there are real people and, no doubt, real fears and anxie es. Fears about our heath, our sinfulness, our future, our loved ones. It is these people and us with their and our real fears, that Jesus is speaking to today. In today’s gospel three mes he bids us not to be afraid. Some mes we may feel like a small child lost in a supermarket; it is noisy, messy world we live in and it may at mes seem strange and threatening. We feel lost, insignificant, unimportant, a speck of dust amidst the billions of people who inhabit the world. Some mes we find it hard to believe that God, with this vast universe to look a er, can afford the me to give his divine a en on to us individually. Once again, Jesus steps in to say again, ”there is no need to be afraid”. Just as the Father knows when a sparrow falls to the ground, each of us is worth more than many sparrows. “Do not be afraid”: the words are especially powerful because the one who speaks them is our friend, who really knows us, who loves us and whom we love: he is a friend we can trust. As the words of the old hymn says, “What a friend we have in Jesus”, Jesus urges us not to be afraid again and again. That doesn’t mean that all our fears suddenly vanish but rather they don’t para-lyze us, they no longer dominate our lives because , like Jeremiah in today’s first reading, we can say “The Lord is at my side, a mighty champion.” Let me close our me together today with a blessing: Lord God, let the effect of your blessing on our reopened church remain with your faithful people to give them new life and strength of Spirit, so that the power of your love will enable them to accom-plish what is right and good. Faithful

    AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

What Makes a Dad God took the strength of a mountain,

The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add,

He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it … Dad
