‘’Taking More Initiative than the Worldly’’

Today’s scriptural readings suggest two areas in which we

should grow spiritually.

They are prayer for those who are in need and justice for the

poor. The two are closely linked. The second reading is one of

the sources of our prayer of the faithful at Mass. Our prayer

should reflect the broad, expansive nature of the prayer

recommended in the letter to Timothy. We need to include

everyone in our prayer, and yet we should have a special

emphasis on the poor, the downtrodden, and the despised of

this world. Prayer must lead to action, in particular the kind of

action advocated by Amos, the prophet of social justice. He

condemned those who through their unjust practices

‘’trample upon the needy and destroy the poor of the land,’’

and he admonished those whose only thought was financial

gain. Amos would not have favored the out look of Calvin

Coolidge who said that ‘’the business of America is business.’’

And neither should we. Our business should be sharing with

others who are in need, being the advocates rather than the

critics of those who live in destitution, and recognizing that

God calls us to share our talents and blessings with others.

Above all, we Catholics should show initiative and enterprise

not only in praying for those in need but in reaching out to

help them as best we can. That will ensure that we have only

one master, the great, a good and generous Father of our

Lord Jesus Christ.

The Vicariate Faith Formation Night is starting back up on Thursday, September 26th with a special series called, “The Wild Goose; Discovering a Deeper Relationship with the Holy Spirit”. The series will run for 5 Thursday evenings from September 26th to Octo-ber 24th. The mission of The Ministry of The Wild Goose is to invite men and women to an encounter, or a renewed encounter, with Christ who perfectly reveals the love of the Father by the grace of the Holy Spirit. It is an outreach of the Franciscan Friars. The mission of faith formation night is for all to grow closer to Christ and is a special opportunity for us as the church to evan-gelize. So please invite your friends, family and neighbors to this life-changing series. Doors open at 5:30 pm for dinner and the video starts at 6:00 pm at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center. Dinner and childcare are provided!

Congratulations! On September 20th, 1969, Tom and Carolyn Lulay were married here in St. Boniface Church. They would like to
