WELCOME TO THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITIES OF
Deacon Steve Tabor Phone: 503.769.8089
‘’Speech Is the Fruit of the Heart’’ We saw in today’s first reading, it gives us a wise counsel: to find out what is in the heart of a person we should let him or her speak out and we should listen carefully to what he or she says. The gospel gives us a series of ‘’sayings” of Jesus about the ‘’masters’’ of the Christian community. We are told that we must pay attention to the way they speak to assess from what store they draw their speech: from the store of the Mas-ter or from the rubbish heap of their passions? The second reading is about the imperishable and immortal body: I don’t think it has much in common with the other readings of this Sunday. But there could be a connection: in the world to come we will also have a new language; it will be used only to praise the Lord, while here on earth at times we use it also to harm our brothers and sisters by judging them wrongly and so Jesus condemns such tendency to be judgmental. It’s easy to be judgmental and find fault with others than with our-selves. But unfortunately we have no right to judge others be-cause no one but God alone knows the heart of the person and the fact of the matter. He alone is the right judge who sees the whole truth. Secondly, we can help another person only when we have the gift to do so. We need the kind of vi-sion, both moral and spiritual to recognize and remove the obstacles from our own lives and see ourselves clearly in or-der to help others from stumbling. Jesus the Divine Physician can remove the log of our pride, prejudice and judgmental tendencies and provide us with the clear vision of love and appreciation of others’ goodness. Fr Paul Materu
