OUR HOPE AND GOD’S PROMISE The Church uses these waning November days and darker skies as the season to remind us of the last things. Today’s feast, the Solemnity of All Saints, is the centerpiece of three days that point to doctrines we proclaim each time we say the Apostles’ Creed: “We believe in the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.” And while the days and our hearts may be dark, the readings today are bright with the light of faith. John’s vision in the book of Revela-tion reveals dazzling angels and white-robed saints gathered in triumph around the throne of God. In the responsorial psalm we sing our longing to see God’s face, and in the second reading John writes that we are God’s children and will, in fact, see God “as he is” (1 John 3:2). This is our hope. This is God’s promise. Today we celebrate the triumph of those who already gaze on the face of God. Tomorrow we cry out for mercy with those in purgatory, who, like us on earth, still long to see God’s face. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

We are all at different points on the path to holiness,

on getting to Heaven and becoming a saint. Part of the

journey is being mocked and ridiculed by oth-

ers. When this happens, how do you respond? Do you

become silent? Do you react in anger or do you react

with love? Fortunately, as one Body of Christ, we are

united with the saints already in Heaven. Ask your

favorite saint for guidance in defending the Faith.

SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES (1579-1639) November 3 An old illustration pictures Martin de Porres, fin-ger to his lips—“Shhhh!”—as several mice peek out of sacristy vestment drawers, preparing to join a ro-dent “procession” following him out of church! Mar-tin’s rescue of these unwelcome guests, and statues depicting him, broom in hand, feeding a dog, cat, bird, and mouse from the same dish symbolize his life and sanctity. Initially denied entrance by the Domini-cans because of his mixed race (Spanish father, Pana-manian mother), Martin cherished society’s marginal-ized. For him, menial tasks, lovingly done, were sa-cred. Great and lowly alike feasted on his charity. En-emies were reconciled by this “poor mulatto” (his self-description), kind even to those whose racism de-meaned him. Apprenticed to a surgeon-barber in his youth—thus patron saint of hair stylists and public health providers—Martin dispensed healing and dig-nity to Lima’s poorest, serving in them the Christ he adored for hours in the Blessed Sacrament. By the time he died, all Peru called him Martin the Charita-ble, a title even those of us who will never be called “saint” might still aspire to.

Faith Formation News Teaching our children to pray By praying with our children, we model our faith and the importance of a personal relationship with God. Last week, parents of first through sixth graders were emailed a list of required Catholic prayers for their child’s grade level. Please practice them with your child as part of your home-based catechism. Seventh and eighth grade level prayers will be com-piled and emailed in the near future. Outreach Assistance-Thanksgiving Food Baskets

The Outreach Assistance Program will be collecting

items for their annul Thanksgiving Food Basket give

-away. Items needed to complete a basket are listed

below:

Canned Green Beans Canned Corn

Boxed Mashed Potatoes Canned Gravy

Cream of Mushroom Soup Sugar-4lb. bag

Boxed Turkey Stuffing Cranberry Sauce

Canned Sweet Potatoes or Yams

You can leave your donations in the basket in the

Narthex or call the parish office to make arrangements

for a drop off. Monetary donations can be put

in the poor box.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation, the Outreach

Assistance will continue with the “drive-thru”

food pantry, giving away the food baskets on Novem-

ber 18, 2020 from 10am-1pm or until the baskets are

gone. They plan on making 80 baskets,

which is the average of weekly families we serve.

We encourage any parishioner who may be in need

of a basket, to please contact the Parish Office as

soon as possible, so that baskets will be held specifical-

ly for parishioners.

St. Boniface Baptism Class Sunday, November 15

12:30-3:00PM A baptism class will be held on Sunday, November 15, 12:30-3:00 PM. This class is required for parent(s) having their child baptized in the Catholic Church. Before taking this class you must be registered in the parish and have met with Fr. Martino to discuss the baptism of your child(ren). This will be the final class for 2020.
