AAAA PPPPrayer for rayer for rayer for rayer for MMMMemorial emorial emorial emorial DDDDay ay ay ay …
Heavenly Father, today we remember and pay tribute to the men and women of the Armed Services who have died in the defense of our nation.
They paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we hold so dear.
In the words of Sacred Scripture we hear, "There is no greater love then this,
than to lay down one's life for a friend." It is only by your grace and the love they have for you
and this nation that gave them the strength to lay down their lives.
We beseech you O Lord, to receive these servants of peace into your loving embrace
and grant them the eternal peace that surpasses all understanding.
We also remember the family members of these great heroes. They too suffer a great and painful sacrifice.
Bestow upon them the blessings of your consolation and peace. May you ease their sadness
as they continue on the road to serenity and hope.
To you we offer this prayer knowing you fulfill the heart's desire of those
who seek you with noble intentions. May our prayer for true and lasting peace be answered
in accordance to your will and for the good of your sons and daughters.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of Peace. Amen.
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And be-hold, I am with you always, until the end
of the age.” - Mt 28:19-20

Parish Book Club
At the last meeting, Book Club members discussed Night (Part I of “The Night Trilogy: Night, Dawn, Day”) by Elie Wiesel. Night is a powerful and deeply personal account of Elie Wiesel's life up to and through his time in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Wiesel pulls the
reader into his world as a Jew in Europe during the war and how the basic instinct for survival guided his actions. The book re-counts the daily life and death decisions faced as prisoners navi-gated an unimagineable situation and struggled to live. The book club found Night to be a quick, but intense read. The writing is impactful and highlights how decisions during this time weigh on Wiesel, his morality, and his relationship with God.
The group will then begin reading The Screwtape Letters, by C. S. Lewis for discussion at the next meeting on Mon., July 9th. This classic centers on letters written from Screwtape (the devil) to his nephew and pupil, Worm-wood; explaining to Wormwood what he is doing wrong in trying to 'turn the patient' (a Christian person) away from the enemy (God).
The St. Bonaventure Parish book club is informal and always welcomes new members. Meetings are held on the second Mon. of every other month (Jan., Mar., May, Jul., Sep. & Nov.) to provide ample opportunity to complete the readings. You can check out our list of upcoming (and past) reads at stbonaventureplymouth.org. For more info, please send your email to Sue Healy at [email protected] or call her at 508-224-3636, Ext. 120.
Join us! “The book is always open!”
