As some of you know, she had been suffering with Alzheimer's for many years and was bedridden for the past 3 1/2 years. She is now at peace. ST. PATRICK’S DAY DISPENSATION With St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) falling on a Friday during Lent this year, Archbishop William E. Lori has granted Catholics in the Archdiocese of Baltimore a dispensation from abstinence from eating meat that day. Catholics practice fasting and abstinence as penitential practices which unite Catholics to the redemptive suffering and death of Jesus. Catholics abstain from meat on Fridays during Lent in remembrance of the day Christ died. In lieu of abstaining from meat on St. Patrick’s Day, the Archbishop encourages those members of the faithful of the Archdiocese to engage in some additional act of prayer, service to the poor, or almsgiving.
THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFIGURATION “We used to be such good friends. How is it that you’ve moved so far away?” one man asked another. “Perhaps,” the other replied, “you have moved away. By standing still.” This exchange very well could have happened between Peter and Jesus, had Peter been allowed to erect tents to stay on the mount of the Transfiguration. He nearly succumbed to the temptation to stay in a place of wonder and light. But Jesus knew the hard truth: we are on a continual journey when we are walking the paths of God’s will. It is not good for us to stay in one place on our faith journey. Equally unhealthy is staying put in times of joy and wonder to avoid life’s difficulties, or to wallow in our trials and temptations and fail to be companions for our sisters and brothers who are also suffering—or celebrating! The pilgrim Church is required to do one thing on its Lenten journey: to walk continually with Christ as his Body born of water and the Spirit, seeking God’s will, helping the reign of God to be known on earth, being led to the end of our journey, transfigured for all time into the company of heaven. FOOD BANK This week we are asking for spaghetti/sauce, peanut butter, and tuna fish. We are very thankful and grateful for your continued support for the needs of our local food bank. We received 160 items - that is amazing.

OUTREACH FUND FOR MARCH Over 10,000 students in Washington County Public Schools receive free or reduced lunches and for many this lunch will be the last hot meal of the day. Children are especially hungry over the weekend when school is not in session. Each Friday afternoon identified elementary school children receive a bag or backpack of healthy food and snacks. The filled backpack may include the following individual serving-size items: cereal, oatmeal, juice, tuna, peanut butter, crackers, macaroni and cheese, soup, applesauce, fruit cups, spaghetti, ravioli, beef stew, canned vegetables, and other nutritious food.

Desde el escritorio del Padre Juan…
Estimados Parroquianos, En este segundo domingo de Cuaresma la palabra de Dios nos invita a dejar nuestra zona de confort, nuestro lugar seguro donde nos sentimos bien y nada nos molesta. Sin embargo, el llamado de Dios es inquietante y nos lleva por caminos que a veces no pensamos caminar. Esta fue la experiencia de Abraham, de los apóstoles, Pedro Santiago y Juan y que se nos extiende a todos nosotros. Ven camina conmigo nos dice el Señor y te mostrare de lo que eres capaz, te guiare hacia un lugar donde tu reflorecerás y yo seré tu fortaleza. Cuaresma es el camino la pascua de Jesús nuestro destino inmediato, pero es en el reino de Dios donde la gloria del Padre será nuestra si nos animamos a aventurarnos. ¡Anímate a dar ese paso!

Nuestra mirada se dirige hoy al tema de "la llamada de Dios" como elemento que unifica la liturgia. La llamada se dirige primero a Abraham. Lo invita a salir de su tierra, a dejar a la espalda las apoyaturas humanas y a confiarse entera y filialmente en el Señor y en su promesa: "en ti bendeciré todas las familias del mundo" (1L). La llamada se dirige también a Timoteo por medio de Pablo: "toma parte en los duros trabajos del evangelio con la fuerza que Dios te dé". Es esencial en la vida del cristiano "tomar parte en la vida de Cristo", especialmente en su misterio pascual: muerte y resurrección (2L). Pero esta llamada de Dios en Cristo se hace más evidente en el evangelio: Cristo llama a Pedro, Santiago y Juan a subir a una montaña alta y los invita a "tomar parte" en la transfiguración. Poco después los llama a descender del monte y a emprender decididos el camino de Jerusalén, camino de la Pasión.

Lecturas del próximo domingo Tercer Domingo Cuaresma
Éxodo 17,3-7; Romanos 5,1-2.5-8; Juan 5,5-42
Deseamos proponer como elemento unificador de este tercer domingo de Cuaresma por una parte el "anhelo de Dios que existe en el corazón del hombre" y por otra parte el amor salvífico de Dios que sale a su encuentro. La prueba más elocuente y hermosa del amor de Dios es que nos amó cuando todavía éramos pecadores (2L), cuando nos habíamos despeñado y alejado del redil. En la primera lectura se muestra la rebelión del pueblo contra Moisés al experimentar la sed asfixiante del desierto. Ponen a prueba a Dios y lo emplazan para que diga si efectivamente está o no, con ellos. Las pruebas tan claras de su poder en favor de los israelitas se olvidan ante la angustia de la sed del desierto. El Señor, sin embargo, sale a su paso y hace fluir de la roca corrientes de agua (1L). En el evangelio de San Juan es Jesús quien experimenta la sed de la fatiga y del peso del día, pero es la samaritana la que tiene el deseo y la nostalgia de Dios. Cristo que padece sed da de beber a la samaritana un agua que se convierte para ella en fuente de agua viva. Cristo se le revela como el Mesías que debe salvar al mundo (EV).
