FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Whatever Jesus does, He always does it well One of the most famous works of art in the world is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. When the Pope asked Michelangelo to paint it, he protested. He was a sculptor not a painter, but the Pope would not let him go. He started this colossal task. He had to paint ten thousand square feet of ceiling with pictures that would form a uni!ed design. It took 343 !gures, some of them 18 feet high. To make it more impossible, the !ve artists hired to help him were all sent home, and their works destroyed. He had to do it as a one-man project. The !rst scaffolding had to be torn down and rebuilt. The !rst section he painted developed a mold and he begged the Pope to let him quit, but he refused. So, month after month he lay on his back 68 feet up in the air doing a job he did not want to do. After about four and a half years of this agoniz-ing labor the work was uncovered in October of 1512 A.D. and for nearly !ve centuries it stands as one of the wonders of the world of art. Michelangelo did not want to do the job, but when he did, he did a good job. In today's Gospel, the people, after seeing the successful healing of the deaf man who also had an impediment in his speech, in unbounded admi-ration declared, "Jesus has done all things well." In the book of Genesis, at the end of the sixth day of creation, God sees His work and concluded that it was very good (I: 31). The deeds of Jesus, like the works of God in creation, are all done well. The words and works of Jesus are not just testimonies of His charisma or skills at magic, rather they are the signs that a new world of plentitude and bless-ings, is miraculously springing into existence through Him. Whatever Jesus does, He always does well. Fr. Raj

“Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?” J#$%* 2:5 What is more important – being rich in faith or rich in posses-sions? Society tells us that possessions are most important. God teaches a different lesson. When we are rich in faith, we keep God !rst and experience true joy and peace. When we put possessions !rst, we soon realize we can never have enough and happiness is +eeting. When we put faith over possessions we truly realize it is better to give than receive.
