Welcome to St. Anne’s Church

Today is the feast day of our patron, St Anne. We recognize this day with the Scripture readings for her feast and with a special historical Eucharist. Today, the words and music come from supplemental resources published by the Episcopal Church in 1997: Enriching Our Worship I and Wonder, Love and Praise. We hope this service both comforts you and challenges you.

Our custom in the Episcopal Church is to welcome all who are baptized to receive communion. (Gluten free bread is available. Please ask the server.) If you prefer not to receive communion, you are invited to come forward for a blessing instead. We are all welcome at God’s table.

If you are new to St. Anne’s or worshipping with us as a visitor, please fill out a welcome card (found in your pew) or sign our guest book (in the entry way to the church). Please let us know if we can give you more information about our church community or if you have a prayer request. May you encounter here the God who is love.

Voluntary Soliloquy --Healey Willan

The Word of God

HYMN 780 WLP Lord, you give the great commission Abbot’s Leigh

2 Lord, you call us to your service: "In my name baptize and teach." That the world may trust your promise, life abundant meant for each, give us all new fervor, draw us closer in community. Refrain 3 Lord, you make the common holy: "This my body, this my blood." Let us all, for earth’s true glory, daily lift life heavenward, asking that the world around us share your children’s liberty. Refrain

4 Lord, you show us love’s true measure: "Father, what they do, forgive." Yet we hoard as private treasure all that you so freely give. May your care and mercy lead us to a just society. Refrain 5 Lord, you bless with words assuring; "I am with you to the end." Faith and hope and love restoring, may we serve as you intend and, amid the cares that claim us, hold in mind eternity.

Refrain

The 8:00 AM liturgy is spoken and begins with the Te Deum laudamus on page 95 in the Book of Common Prayer.

And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will make you exceedingly numerous.” Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. The Gospel Luke 1:26-33

Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to Luke. People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Deacon The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Sermon

As you are able, please stand. All say together The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

After each petition the Reader will say, “Christ, in your mercy”. Please respond, “Hear our prayer.”

The Confession

The Deacon or Celebrant says Let us confess our sins to God. Minister and People: God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen. The Peace

Celebrant The peace of Christ be always with you. People And also with you.

The Offertory

Anthem O How Amiable -- R. Vaughan Williams O how amiable are thy dwellings, thou Lord of hosts! My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of

the Lord: my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young: even thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be alway praising thee. The glorious majesty of the Lord our God be upon us: prosper thou the work of hands upon us, O prosper thou our handywork. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast and our eternal home. --from Psalms 84 and 90

(The final verse of this anthem is a setting of the hymn tune “St. Anne”.)

HYMN 380 (v. 3) Praise God, from whom all blessings flow Old 100th

The Great Thanksgiving Eucharistic Prayer 2, Enriching Our Worship I

Celebrant The Lord be with you.

People And also with you.

Celebrant Lift up your hearts.

People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give our thanks and praise. Celebrant We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant . . . Time and again you called us to live in the fullness of your love. And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting our voices to magnify you as we sing

Sanctus S 114 Celebrant and People Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts: Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord Most High. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The Celebrant continues Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living God . . . . . . Then, the time came for him to complete upon the cross the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified by you.

On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Now gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen, who was and is and is to come, we offer to you our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living sacrifice. Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the world you have made. In the fullness of time bring us, with Blessed Anne, Joachim, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and all your saints, from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from the foundation of the world.

Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. AMEN.

2 Turn our worship into witness in the sacrament of life; send us forth to love and serve you, bringing peace where there is strife. Give us, Christ, your great compassion to forgive as you forgave; may we still behold your image in the world you died to save.

3 Gracious Spirit, help us summon other guests to share that Feast where triumphant Love will welcome those who had been last and least. There no more will envy blind us nor will pride our peace destroy, as we join with saints and angels to repeat the sounding joy.
