St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today’s Readings First Reading — Paul and Barnabas reported how God had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles (Acts 14:21-27). Psalm — I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God (Psalm 145). Second Reading — God’s dwelling is with the human race (Revelation 21:1-5a). Gospel — This is how all will know that you are my dis-ciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:31-33a, 34-35). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from the Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

Today is April 28, 2013 and our Confirmation Day here at St. Ann’s. Congratulation and God’s Blessings to all of our Confirmandi and their families.

This is the Fifth Sunday of Easter, and our Responsorial Psalm is “I will praise your name forever, my King and my God.” (Psalm 145:8-9,10-11,12-13) The Gospel re-minds us to “Love one another.” (John 13:31-33a, 34-35)

LAYMAN’S 10 COMMANDMENTS

1. Prayer is not a “spare wheel” that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a “steering wheel” that directs the right path throughout the journey. 2. So why is a car’s windshield so large and the rear view mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as im-portant as our FUTURE. So look ahead and move on. 3. Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few minutes to burn thru, but it takes years to write. 4. All things in life are temporary. If life is going well, enjoy it; it will not last forever. If things are going wrong, don’t worry; it can’t last forever. 5. Old friends are gold! New friends are diamonds! If you get a diamond, don’t forget the gold! Because to hold a diamond, you always need a base of gold! 6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, God smiles from above and says, “Relax, it’s just a bend in the river and not the end!” 7. When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities. But when GOD doesn’t solve your prob-lems, He has faith in YOUR abilities. 8. A blind person asked St. Anthony, ”Can there be an-ything worse than losing eye sight?” He replied, “Yes, losing your vision!” 9. When you pray for others, GOD listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and hap-py, remember that some have prayed for you.

Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace. Live simply. Love generous-ly. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Thanks to Jeanette for these words of wisdom.

Serving Him Together, Mrs. A

P.S. Thanks to our 7th Grade moms for serving us our refreshments after Confirmation.

Together Let Us Cause God Joy

April 27-28, 2013

Dear Parishioners,

Today at 1:00 p.m., our eighth grade students and those in Re-ligious Education will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with Bishop Perry, Father Bill, and their families and friends. Please keep these young people in your prayers as they claim the Catholic Faith as their own….as they agree to live Catholic Christian lives of Faith, Hope, and Love. Pray for them as they embark on their high school years. The world is filled with God’s beauty and goodness, but temp-tations and evil also survive. Hopefully, we will see these students at Saturday evening or Sunday Masses for many years to come.

This Wednesday, May 1, will be Schoop’s Night for Lansing Soccer. Support them if you can since Soccer Homecoming will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2013. Our soccer-playing students will get to wear their soccer shirts to school on Friday, May 3. We thank Mr. Mike Churilla and all who are involved in teaching our young people good sports-manship and spirit.

Lansing’s Good Neighbor Parade is Saturday, May 4. Mr. Scheppe and Mr. Castillo have always been instrumental in making the St. Ann Parish/School/Scouts Float a huge success. Come on out and cele-brate the event! I believe the St. Ann entry will celebrate the Parish’s 100th Anniversary.

Parents are holding a “Junior High Library Book Drive” between now and May 9, 2013. If you have gently used books or would like to donate new, ap-propriate reading material for Junior High, feel free to drop your donations in church, the parish office, or the school office. Thank you.

God love and bless you all,

Donna Lamoureux

GOOD NEIGHBOR Day PARADE

St. Ann Parish will once again participate in the Village of Lansing’s annual Good Neighbor Day Parade!

Saturday May 4, 2012

The parade is the perfect opportunity to show the community that the family of St. Ann’s is a welcoming parish―and has been for 100 YEARS! We are hoping many of you will come out and show your parish pride! We need volunteers to walk with us. You can wear any St. Ann gear: walk as a team in uniform, wear gym clothes, Catholic Schools Week T-Shirts, any Green & Gold will do! Everyone in the parade will receive a hot dog when we reach Lan-Oak Park.

We will also need assistance decorating the float. We plan to decorate in the St. Ann parking lot on May 4 at 10:00 a.m.

Anyone interested in donating bags of individually wrapped candy for distribution at the parade may leave their contributions at school, the parish office, or in the decorated box in the Narthex. If you send it through school, please mark it “GOOD NEIGHBOR PARADE.” You can even drop off your candy while we decorate the float that morning in the parking lot.

The St. Ann float will be lined up on Wentworth Ave. Our line-up position is TBA―watch for details. All walkers should be there between 1:30 and 1:45 on parade day. We would love to have all parishioners walking/riding with us. If you are unable to accompany your child, you will have to meet us when we arrive at 178th St. across from the Eisen-hower Center. If you have any questions, please call Cindy Hope at 474-2914 or the parish office at 895-6700.

Junior High Book Drive Now thru May 9

The Home and School Association is sponsoring a book drive. Our St. Ann School library is in need of more middle school-age books, but all children’s books will be accepted. Any dupli-cates or books that cannot be used will be sold to raise funds for the library. Bring your books to school, or deposit them in the Narthex after Masses April 27-28 and May 4-5. Thank you!
