Shepherds Like Jesus

Each year this Fourth Sunday of Easter celebrates Jesus the Good Shepherd. Today’s Gospel seems especially timely, for as Christians worldwide suffer persecution like Paul and Barnabas, Jesus promises his sheep enduring, invincible safety: “They shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.” But we who are free to live our faith peacefully sometimes take our membership in Jesus’ flock for granted, wandering astray to seek our own pleasure and prosperity. The simple cross that Pope Fran-cis always wears seems to show us how Jesus responds to that. Francis’s cross features an image of Jesus, who has sought and found a lost sheep, then joyfully set it on his shoulders to carry it gently home. May Good Shepherd Sunday inspire us, so often lost and found ourselves, to assist Jesus in seeking, finding, and gently carrying home our fellow precious lambs. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Baby Bottle Project

May 12 - June 16 St. Ann’s will participate in the Baby Bottle Project to benefit the Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland, a non-profit organization that assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnan-cies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spir-itual support through coun-seling, clothing and mone-tary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year, the Women’s Center sees over 5,000 expectant mothers in their three locations, one of which is located at Our Lady of Knock in Calumet City. They estimate to have saved almost 40,000 babies and their mothers from abortion since opening in 1984.

Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from the Nar-thex the weekend of May 11-12, fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend of June 15-16. If you are making a donation by check, please make it payable to The Women’s Center. Please note that the baby bottles cost nearly $1 per bottle and are recycled afterwards, so please be sure to return them at the end of the project. Thank you for helping to defend life, and remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers.

The Lansing Columbian Ladies have been busy this spring fulfilling the mission of promoting sociability among their members, supporting the welfare of the Lan-sing Knights of Columbus, and advancing charitable acts of kindness throughout the Church and community.

The group recently sponsored the St. Ann Easter Egg Hunt and assisted the Knights at the annual Clergy Night, as well as supporting them in various other fundraising events. In addition, the Ladies participate in various so-cial activities at their own meetings to promote fellowship among the members, including their annual Birthday Cel-ebration, May Crowning, and Holiday Delights Feast. At the next meeting, the Ladies will be making special birth-day bags for the Lansing Food Pantry, filled with cake mixes, frosting, and decorations.

The Columbian Ladies was founded in August 1963 by the women of the Knights of Columbus Council #3540 to fill the concept of family participation in programs and activities sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. They meet on the fourth Monday of the month, September through November and March through June, with no meetings in July, August, December, and January. Meet-ings are at 7:00 p.m. (6:30 p.m. when a meal is being served). Dues are $10 per year. Membership is open to any Catholic or Christian female 18 years old or older. You do not have to have a husband who belongs to the Knights of Columbus to attend.

For more information, call the St. Ann Parish Office at 708.895.6700, contact us at [email protected] or simply attend one of our meetings.
