St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

The 100th Anniversary Commemorative Ornaments have arrived! You may begin claiming your ornaments after

weekend Masses next week or at the Parish Office during the week. To retrieve your ornament, we will have the guest list of all who purchased tickets for the dinner; you do not

need the table place card from the dinner. Thank you for your

patience and understanding,

and thank you for celebrating with us the many blessings

of our first 100 years.

Congratulations to Jerry and Judy Mitchell, our St. Ann’s recipients of this year’s Christifideles Award, presented to them during a ceremony officiated by Cardinal Francis George at Holy Name Cathedral. The award annually provides each Pastor with an opportunity to recognize and thank Catholic lay-people who demonstrate personal and ministerial renewal through participation in parish life. The Mitchells always answer affirmatively when St. Ann Parish calls upon them for help in the various areas of parish life. Thank you for all your years of service to St. Ann’s, Jerry and Judy! Our sincere thanks and congratulations also go out to those recognized as St. Ann’s Volunteers of the Year at Lansing’s recent annual Evening of Thanks: Jeanie Her-nandez (parish) and Steve & Laura Serba (school). St. Ann’s was well represented at the event, as many other St. Ann parishioners were also nominated for their in-volvement in other organizations. Volunteers are the life-blood of our community!

Giving Tree

Be part of the Giving Tree Ministry this Holiday Season, and help provide a special Christmas to those who are less fortunate!

If you took a card from our Giving Tree this year, gifts can be anywhere from $20 to $25 (no gift cards please), and should be returned to the Chapel the weekend of December 7 & 8 ONLY. If you cannot get to the Church Chapel that weekend, please bring your gifts to the Parish Office the week of December 2. If you would like to help sort the presents and ready them for delivery, please come to the Chapel after the 10:30 Mass on December 8. The Parish Office has established a

new policy for use of the Narthex af-ter weekend Masses, effective imme-diately. If you have an activity/event already on the calendar, you do not need to submit a new request form.

1) A “Narthex Request Form” MUST be completed and submitted to the Parish Office AT LEAST one full week-end prior to the date of your event. This form is only a request, NOT an approval. You will be notified by the Parish Office if the request is approved or denied. Phone requests will not be accepted. We will attempt to have the form available on the parish website soon.

2) There will be a limit of two tables/stations per week-end, regardless of the nature of the event or activity.

3) There will be NO activities/events scheduled during hospitality weekends.

4) Requests will be reviewed in the order they are re-ceived at the Parish Office.

5) This policy applies to ALL activities/events.

November 16-17, 2013

Dear St. Ann Family,

SUPER! In October, our 8th Graders were administered the ACT/Explore Achievement Test; last week we re-ceived the scores. I am very proud to announce our students scored ABOVE AVERAGE in English, reading, mathematics, and science. These were the four areas tested on the ACT/Explore instrument. I wish to congratulate our students, parents, as well as our faculty for a job well done! St. Ann School does a lot of things “right.” This is proof of one of those things. Our tradition for academic excellence within a faith-filled environment continues. Praise be to God! I will further analyze the data and will provide a classroom seminar for our students in order to explain what the scores mean and how they, as students, can improve. I will also ana-lyze the data from the past three years and look for trends in what we as a school are doing right, as well as how we can improve even further. We are all works in progress.

EVERY DAY SUPER HEROES Last week, I attended an “Evening of Thanks” celebrating Lansing’s Special Volunteers-2013. The event was organized by the Lan-sing Volunteer Recognition Committee and held at the Serbian Social Center. St. Ann School nominated Laura and Steve Serba for their hours and hours of service to the school. It was a wonderful event with 46 Lansing community volunteers hon-ored. I enjoyed hearing about all of the honorees’ stories of giving to others. In a world where evil is often the top sto-ry on the news, it was inspir-ing to hear goodness prevail-ing right here in our own neighborhood. Congratula-tions, Laura and Steve Serba, and thank you both!

SUPER HERO DAY! This Friday, November 22, our St. Ann School Student Council is sponsoring a Super Hero Day. In exchange for bringing in non-perishable items for the Lansing Food Pantry, students will dress/transform themselves into super heroes like Spiderman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, as well as real super heroes such as our soldiers, police officers, firefighters, doctors, and nurses, just to name a few. Our students are indeed my super heroes as they bring goodness to the world, try their best, and love God.

May God bless our Parish,

Mrs. Bonnie Hall, Principal
