St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today is the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.” (Psalm 23:1-3.4-4,5,6) We read and learn about the ways of Jesus the Good Shepherd in the Gospel.

PUNS TO MAKE YOU SMILE (e-mail author unknown)

1. How does Moses make his tea? Hebrews it. 2. Jokes about German sausage are the wurst. 3. I stayed up all night to see where the sun went.

Than it dawned on me. 4. I did a theatrical performance about puns. It was a

play on words. 5. Why were the Indians here first? They had reserva-

tions. 6. I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger.

Then it hit me. 7. I tried to catch some fog. I mist. 8. What do you call a dinosaur with an extensive vo-

cabulary? A thesaurus. 9. England has no kidney bank, but it does have a Liv-

erpool. 10. I used to be a banker, but then I lost interest.

What puns do you remember? What puns did Jesus teach us? If you remember some, please call the Office and let me know.

Serving Him Together,

Barb A.

Second Reading — In Christ Jesus you who were once far off have become near by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13-18). Miss Me—But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me,

I want not rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little—but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we once shared.

Miss me—but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the Friend we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me—but let me go. In Loving Memory of

Ruthann Castaneda Darlene Dinnocenzo

The Year of Sunday Mass, July 2012 - June 2013

The Archdiocese of Chicago launched its Strategic Pasto-ral Plan: Reflect Christ's Light in July 2011 with The Year of Teens and Young Adults. The Plan continues with The Year of Sunday Mass, which began July 1, 2012. The expectation is to grow the Catholic Communi-ty of faith in each parish over the next five years and to more deeply incorporate the faithful in the life of the Church throughout the course of their lives.

Still to come as part of the Plan:

July 2013 – Year of Parent Formation

July 2014 – Year of the Sacraments

FMI, visit the Strategic Pastoral Plan web page, www.archchicago.org/StrategicPastoralPlan.

If you have questions on the Strategic Pastoral Plan, please contact the Coordinator, Nancy Polacek, at

Dear Father,

I have a six‐year‐old son, Jer .  One evening I was feeling a bit blue because of the tedious chores that I had to do.  Jer  and his first g ade classmates had that day visited some handicapped people in a nearby care home.  As he knelt by his bedside that evening, he added this petition to his prayers:  “And please, God, help Mrs. Donley and Mrs. Baker get be er so they can wash clothes and do the dishes just like Mommy does.”

That prayer was a revelation for me, a special g ace.  The ver  best thing that my son could ask for these ladies was to have a life like mine‐‐with all these humdr m chores!  Suddenly, I no longer felt sor  for myself.  A Gratef l Mother    Dear Gratef l Mother,

That is, indeed, a touching stor .  Thank you for sending it along to us.  I picked up, somewhere, a li le verse that capt res this idea well:

When you have thanked the Lord for ever  blessing sent, Then you have li le time lest to mur ur and lament.

All of us take God’s blessings for g anted, but it is impor ant that we recall some of them  om time to time.  Father George
