ST ANN PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
November 3, 2019
PRESENT; Father Moran, Nick Bogdan, Julie Burgett, Brettina Jeffers, Tina Peterman, Sue Pfaffenberger,
John Smith, Rita Vance, Cliff Wheeldon
ABSENT: Roger Crump, Kendra Heim, Jamie Kinder
GUESTS: Paul Peterman
Meeting was opened with Father leading us in the Hail Mary. It was M/S/C by Brettina/Julie to accept the
minutes as written.
SOCIAL: Chairman of the Social Committee was absent. The CMO fundraiser is completed. The
Community Ecumenical Service will be held on November 17, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the
Sybene Mission Baptist Church across from the Big Sandy Arena. Las Posadas will be
held this year on December 14, 2019 after the 5:30 evening Mass. There will not be an
Epiphany dinner in January 2020.
EDUCATION: Julie Burgett reported PSR went to the Fatima Shrine in October. On Sunday, October
27, 2019, the Saints Presentation was held. It was led by Sheryl Johnson. PSR is back on
track for First Communion. Four children will be making their First Communion in May
2020.
LITURGY: On November 30, 2019 the autumn decorations will be taken down and the Giving Tree
will be put up in the sanctuary. Brettina Jeffers and Cliff Wheeldon reported they will be
having a meeting soon to discuss when Christmas decorations will be put up in the
church. Please watch the bulletin for details.
MAINTENANCE: John Smith reported he is working with the architect, Mr. Patrick Kelly, to finalize the
building plans for the church renovation before submitting the plans to the state for the
final bid. Construction is estimated to take 4-6 months after final approval. The goal is to
have the building permit approved by the end of December 2019. Building construction
is estimated to begin in March/April 2020. The hot water heater will be replaced during
the church renovation.
Concrete has been poured by the parish hall. John reported an excavation contractor
could smooth the concrete on the pad on the far side of the parking lot for a reasonable
fee. He said he will get a price quote from Nelson excavating.
It was discussed that the existing church sign out front be upgraded with an LED-type
illuminated sign. The sign will be 2 feet x 3 feet, large enough to list Mass times and
special events. John will get a price on how much the sign will cost.
FINANCE: Acting on the advice of Dr. Paul Blair, 3 new stocks have been purchased by the church.
Stocks were chosen to provide dividend income for the church.
OTHER BUSINESS: Lisa Burgess brought a picture of Norma Jones for the Norma Jones Parish Hall. Julie
continues to work on wording for the plaque that will be placed beneath the picture of
Norma Jones. She suggested using the same type of lettering that already exists on the
Parish Hall, so there will be no need to have new lettering for the “Parish Hall” part of
the sign. John suggested a local company, Paris Signs. He said he will speak to the
owner, Mr. Tony Wheeler, and obtain a price quote.
It was pointed out that the shrubs along the drive through as one is exiting the drive are
overgrown. Julie offered to provide pruning tools and family members to address the
problem.
Next Parish Council Meeting will be on December 8, 2019 at 11:45 AM. The meeting was closed with Father
leading us in the Lord’s Prayer.

The devil and Thanksgiving There is an old European story about a
traveler who came upon a barn where the
devil had stored seeds which he planned to
sow in the hearts of people. There were bags
of seeds variously marked “Hatred,” “Fear,”
“Doubt,” “Despair,” “Unforgiveness,” “Pride,”
“Greed,” etc.
The devil appeard and struck up a
conversation with the traveler. He gleefully
told the traveler how easily the seeds he
sowed sprouted in the hearts of men and
women.
“Are there any hearts in which these
seeds will not sprout?” the traveler asked.
A melancholy look appeared on the
devil’s face. “These seeds will not sprout in
the heart of a thankful and joyful person,” he
confessed.
A parishioner has a Hoyer Lift that is used to help lift a person out of bed and into a wheelchair, etc. If you are interested or want more information, ask Fr. Charlie.
