Fourth Sunday of Advent - Year A
Matthew seized on Isaiah’s prophecy and
refers it to Jesus. Born of a virgin, he will
embody God’s promise to be with us, and
continue David’s line for ever. The Gospel
stresses the twofold identity of Jesus. He is
the son of David because Joseph, his legal
father, was descended from the line of
David. But he is more than that. He is also
the Son of God.
All three readings today deal with the
identity of ‘the One who was to come’. The
identity of the child was vaguely glimpsed in
the Old Testament. The New
Testament reveals the true
identity of this special Child
(Jesus).

ST PETER’S ...
Thank You (x60): For the love expressed towards me on
my bus pass birthday during last week. Thank you for the
gifts, cards, kindness, encouragement, good wishes and
many, many messages via social media. A very big thank
you to all those who organised the surprise party on
Tuesday evening and for all who were able to come along
and celebrate my birthday - I really appreciate it. I will
treasure Tuesday evening in my bank of parish memories.
Final Mass in Advent: This evening, the 5.30pm Mass will
be by candlelight.
Knit & Natter: The group are now on holiday until
Wednesday 15 January.
Sacristy Supplies: If anyone would like to give a gift of a
bottle of sherry for the sacristy that would be a lovely
Christmas gift to the parish!
Volunteers: Thank you to the three people who have
volunteered, however, we still need more helpers to
clean the church on Friday after Mass. We could also do
with another couple of money counters. If anyone can
help please contact Fr Simon.

Come, show us how you are dwelling in those places
of our lives where we have forgotten to welcome you
…
Come, take us to the place where you are moving us toward
change and deeper relationship with you …
Come, help us believe in the possibility of resurrecting what
has hidden itself from our path of growth …
Come, shake free whatever keeps us from accepting your
invitation to be transformed …
Come, strengthen our faith, cultivate our hope and widen our
love …
Come, draw us into the stillness essential for an alive and
open awareness of your presence …
Come, keep us mindful of the larger world, one in urgent
need of our compassion and dedicated care …
Come, be a healing presence for those who suffer, and those
for whom we have promised to pray …
Come, our minds and hearts are alert, ready to welcome you
home …
Holy One, awaken my heart. Quiet my mind. Draw back
the veil of my illusions to perceive your presence. Settle what
stirs endlessly within me. Hush the voice of haste and
hurry. Awaken my inner senses to recognise your love
hiding beneath the frenzy. Enfold me in your
attentiveness. Wrap a mantle of mindfulness around every
part of my days. I want to welcome you with joy and focus
on your dwelling place. Amen

WIADOMOŚCI POLSKIEJ WSPÓLNOTY W LIVINSTON
Drodzy, w ostatnią niedzielę Adwentu słyszymy od Izajasza mesjańską zapowiedź: Pan sam da
wam znak: Oto Panna pocznie i porodzi Syna, i nazwie Go imieniem Emmanuel”. To imię oznacza
Bóg z nami – dlatego z utęsknieniem wołamy z psalmistą oczekując uroczystości Nrodzenia
Pańskiego: Przybądź, o Panie, Tyś jest Królem chwały. Wszyscy chrześcijanie będą się radować bo
spełniły się zapowiedzi prorockie i narodził się Mejsasz: Oto Dziewica pocznie i porodzi Syna.
Bądźmy w kościele, by napełnić się radością, bo Paweł nam przypomina o naszym powołaniu
polecił anioł Pański: wziął swoją Małżonkę do siebie.
