• The Cambridge Street Pastors, its leadership (Dorothy chairs the trustees) and volunteers

• Our ministry of Baptism at St Andrew’s as we explore this in this month’s morning sermons

• Among the sick, housebound or recovering: Cynthia Dunstan,

Alex Coke-Woods

• RIP: Harry Holroyd

Tickets are available for our Burns Night Ceilidh on Saturday, 7pm, at St Andrew's Hall. There will be a ceilidh with a live band – all dances will be called, so no need for any prior knowledge! Refreshments available, or bring your own. Tickets £10 (£5 for under 16's) on the door or in advance from Maggie Tate or St Andrew's Hall Office. All proceeds and donations will be in aid of project in Uganda.

Coming up…

If you are (relatively) new to St Andrew’s, we would love to invite you for a glass of sherry (or fruit juice) to meet members of the leadership team as well as other newcomers and to hear a little about the life and vision of St Andrew’s—that’s on Sunday 28 January, 11.45am, in the Church.

St Andrew’s News Copies of the new calendar (January to April) are available at the back of church -with details of all our services and events for the coming months.

Coming soon… Lent groups: Evening and daytime groups will be exploring how to develop our own personal way (or rule) of life in fellowship with others. The course lasts five weeks and will begin the week beginning 19 February (the week after half term). For those new to the Christian faith or who want a refresher course there will be a beginners’ Pilgrim group.

We are delighted to report that Ethan Byron Karamanis Morrison, son for Cecily and Niki, and a brother for Ronan, was born on Boxing Day, 26 December 2017.

It all seems like a very long time ago now but we would like to say a huge thank you to all those who helped at the Community Carols in December. Thanks particularly to High Wired for their wonderful

performance 'A Light in the Dark', and to the bucket shakers, readers, refreshment servers and of course all of those who turned out to sing on the night. We are delighted to say that £670.98 was raised for Wintercomfort.

Rachel

And thank you to everyone who helped make Christmas so special at St Andrew’s—those who cleaned and decorated the church, singers and musicians who filled it with lovely singing, sidespeople and candle-scrapers, Christingle makers and tree decorators, readers and intercessors, youth and children’s leaders—and to all the church and hall staff.

Nick

There are still quite a few Christmas cards in the pigeonholes at the back of church—it’s worth checking even if they’re a little early for 2018….

Other news Many of us know that Cambridge is twinned with Heidelberg and that there are regular contacts between the two city councils. Less well known is the programme of exchanges operated by Churches Together in Cambridge for many years. Every two years guests from each city in turn are hosted and entertained for a few days. The next visit planned is for the Heidelbergers to come to us from Sat 29 Sep 2018 till Wed 3 Oct.

If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Margaret and Ian Nimmo-Smith on C 778667, email [email protected] or at church. It is really a most enjoyable experience for people of all ages and many wonderful friendships have formed over the years.

The Church on the Streets Sunday 21 January, 6 - 7.30pm

Wesley Methodist Church

All are invited to be encouraged and in-spired about the work of Street Pastors

nationally and in Cambridge. The speaker is Les Isaac, who founded the Street Pastor

ecumenical movement in the UK, and is well known as an inspirational speaker.

There will also be time for questions and light refreshments. The event is organised

by Cambridge Street Pastors, a group of trained volunteers from many different

local churches, who have patrolled the city centre since 2009, offering help to the vul-

nerable. Inform your prayers for this minis-try well recognised by secular partners such as the police, night club managers, and taxi marshals, and consider whether you could

support us in any other way.
