16th Sunday in Ordinary Time Sunday, July, 17th, 2016

Evening of Prayer for Vocations August 15, 2016 6:30 PM

Seminarian Rory Traynor would like to invite you to join him and Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal Parish in an evening of prayer for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

6:30 PM: Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Divine Mercy Chaplet

7:00 PM: Holy Mass for the Feast of the Assumption, with Vocation talk from a Seminarian.

Immediately after Mass please join us for light refreshments and a chance to meet the seminarians.

Location: Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal Parish, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH.

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing." Martha was caught up in a whirlwind of her own making. She stressed herself out with all the tasks and chores she thought she had to do to host Jesus, but Jesus wasn't the one who expected all of that. He just wanted Martha's presence, her company and friendship. His only expectation was that Martha would prepare for him her heart, but she was fixated on preparing her home instead.

How often do we create a similar whirlwind in our lives? How often do we fixate on external details, on making a good impression, on having all appearances looking just so, but forget what really matters? How often do we make ourselves "anxious and worried" about all we think we have to do? In today's Gospel Je-sus calls us to stop the frenetic activity of our lives, to pause and listen, imitating Mary "who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak."

This can seem impossible. We look at our calendars and our to-do lists and cannot find a single slot in which to squeeze quiet prayer or silent spiritual listening. But Jesus asks us to reorganize our priorities. He tells us, "There is need of only one thing." Really, Jesus? Have you seen our lists!? What can we possibly eliminate? Don't we need to do all of this?

The Lord says no. What we need to do is to make time to be with him. The same Lord who turned water into wine and fed five thousand men with five loaves of bread and two fish can also multiply our time. So instead of being like Martha who tried to tell Jesus what to do-"Tell her to help me"-let's be like Mary who listened to what Jesus had to say.

NEW! Young Adult Ministry As a young adult we often find ourselves wondering where our faith fits into our daily lives. With the hustle and bustle of school, work, family, and friends, we find it difficult to find the time to foster our relationship with God. So if you are a young adult (18-35) who is looking for a space where you can connect with other young adults, and learn more about what the Catholic Church teaches and why we profess what we do, we invite you to join us for lunch on July 24th after the 11am Mass. We will share a bit of what a young adult group is and how you can get more involved with this new ministry, all topped off with some delicious food!

For more information please contact Wendy Ramirez by phone 603-882-4362 ext. 203 or by email

[email protected].

Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for the believers in your speech, your conduct, your love, and purity.

- 1 Timothy 4:12
