It’s getting to be that part of the year where

we spend time with our family enjoying a delicious meal. One of the most enjoyable holiday events is the Macy’s Thanksgiving

parade. We get to see all the fun floats on our TV screens while relaxing in our pajamas. This year will be the 90th anniversary of this thrilling, entertaining

parade. It all began in 1924 in Manhattan, New York, almost 100 years ago. Every year, 3.5 million people watch from along

the 2 ½ mile parade route held in Manhattan, while more than 50 million people watch from the comfort of their

homes. The parade will air at 9 AM until noon across all time zones on Thanksgiving Day. There will be many performers,

including Sarah McLachlan. Do you plan to tune in on November 23 to share this memorable holiday tradition?

someone unexpected comes along. It is rated PG-13 and is a part two

Joe Girardi of the New York Yankees was fired Thursday morning. He man-aged the team for about ten years in New York. The Yankees “decided to pursue alternatives for the managerial position”. Joe Girardi won a championship in his second season in charge and in the years that continued, he was known as being very organized on the field. General manager, Brian Cashman stated it was time for a change. Mr. Girardi replaced then manager Joe Torre and it was Brian Cashman who hired him as the new Yan-kees manager back in 2008. The Yan-kees lost in Game 7 of the American League Championship series. Girardi is not the only one to lose his job after a loss; he is actually the third manager to lose his job. Girardi has been previously criticized for his management skills. He was widely criticized during the Game 2 loss in the division series vs. the Cleve-land Indians, where he refused to replay a hit by pitch call, which caused the Indi-ans to come back. It is sad to see a great manager get fired for losing, but many expect the delivery of good results.

Ribbon Week. Red ribbon week is to celebrate being drug free. I interviewed two children from student council with opinion questions on how drugs effect our world.

When asked, “How do drugs effect our world?” Olivia Jenkins an-swered that “It effects the person doing them because it makes them go crazy.” She also noted that it can make them have extreme thoughts or actions.

Another question asked was, “How do drugs effect specifically the family of the person doing them?” An-other student, Geraldine Wright, said that, “It restricts the person to their fami-ly because the family may be scared of the person they become.” She added that they may be scared because they don’t want to be harmed by the person doing drugs or of being offered drugs them-selves. Olivia Jenkins said that, “It breaks the family apart and if that person on drugs were to pass away, it could stay with the person’s loved ones forever.”

Drugs effect our health and our loved ones, which is why it’s great to be drug free!

According to the New York Times, Google has recently unveiled a plan to help Americans get jobs in tech-nology. They are donating $1 bil-lion for the next five years to the nonprofits in education and profes-sional training. This new program will create an internet destination where anyone can get training to help them get new jobs. “We under-stand there’s uncertainty and even concern about the pace of techno-logical change, but we know that technology will be an engine of America’s growth for years to come,” stated Sundar Pichai, Goog-le’s chief executive.
