    OBJECTIVE:

    The purpose of this document is to explain the standard and specifications of SSD cable ducts and manholes. The document also explains the method of installation of SSD ducts and manholes in main roads and streets.

    1. Manhole Chamber: (refer to diagram 1A)

    The dimensions of the SSD manhole should be as follows:

    Outer shell: 1,300 x 900 x 950 (l x w x d in mm)

    Inner shell: 1,000 x 600 x 450 (l x w x d in mm)

    2. Manhole Cover: (refer to diagram 2A)

    The SSD standard for manhole cover is described as follows:

    Material: Ductile Iron Weight: Not less than 60 kg Coating: Black bituminous paint Clear Opening (A): 750x600 (mm) Over Base (B): 900x750 (mm) Depth (C): 100 (mm) Test Load: D-400 Label: Engraved SSD with text height of 80mm.

    3. Duct Specifications and Installation Standards: (refer to diagram 3A)

    The SSD standard for cable duct specifications and installation is as follows:

    2 x 150mm (internal diameter) uPVC pipes having a wall thickness of at least 3.6mm.

    The duct to be installed shall be Acid and Alkali resistant, flame retardant, of stiff and strong

    material, with very good vapor barrier and UV resistant properties.

    The cable duct should be installed at least 600mm below the finished road level in sand bed

    (above and below).

    A yellow warning tape, at least 350mm width to fully cover the cable ducts, with the inscription

    COMMUNICATION AND POWER CABLE in bold black Arial font, should be installed above the

    cable ducts. The inscription text height should be at least 80mm and repeats after every 1 meter.

    Empty ducts running between manholes shall have pull ropes provided in each duct, with at least

    500mm of slack at each end, and tied off in each manhole.

    Ducts shall be available on all sides of the manhole chamber. Spare ducts or ducts that are not

    interconnected with another manhole shall extend 500mm from the manhole with its ends capped.

    The SSD ducts shall not be installed under the carriageway except for duct crossings.

    The SSD duct can be co-located on the same corridor with other MOI department duct provided

    that the SSD has its own manhole for maintenance, troubleshooting and security.

    4. SSD Duct Corridor

    Identifying the location of the camera as well as the cable ducts in Qatar main roads and streets is the

    prerogative of the SSD. The SSD cable duct installation can be implemented in the following ways

    depending upon the location of the proposed corridor:

    A. At the median or the central reservation of the road.

    B. At either side of the road or verge.

    C. Cable duct crossing an intersection or roundabout.

    D. At multi-level interchanges.

    The SSD standard for cable duct that will be installed in the middle island of the road, must have every

    manhole with maximum of 250 meter distance apart, and with duct crossings after every 1 km (refer to

    diagram 4A).

    In the case of very narrow island, the SSD cable duct must be installed on either side of the road with

    space for every manhole 250 meters distance apart and the ducts must cross the road at every 500m

    distance (refer to diagram 4B).

    C. Cable duct crossing an intersection or roundabout

    At intersections or roundabouts, the SSD cable duct should make a loop around the said areas with

    manholes to be considered at each point of street crossing. (Refer to diagram 4C).

    D. At multi-level interchanges

    Provision of SSD ducts and manholes at interchanges and other types of road junctions not covered in

    this document will be treated on a case to case basis. As a general rule, SSD requires ducts along the

    main roads and highways. The consultant shall submit road layouts and cross sections, to be reviewed by

    the SSD Engineer, and shall seek the requirements of SSD.

    5. Power Requirements

    The consultant shall advise of any nearby Kahramaa power source such as Feeder Pillars, Substations,

    etc., which can provide continuous power supply for future SSD equipment. The SSD duct network shall

    have provision to be connected to these nearby Kahrama power source.
