    Quantitative Aptitude

    Some of the important Percentage ratios, which are

    very useful in solving the problems.

    25% of n =25 1

    100 4n n , 25% of 360

    1360=90

    4

    Important percentage ratios, 16.66% = 1/6, 14.28% = 1/7,

    12.5% = 1/8, 11.11% = 1/9, 9.09% = 1/11, 8.33% = 1/12,

    6.66% = 1/15, 6.25% = 1/16, 80% = 4/5, 120% = 6/5,

    125% = 5/4etc

    A merchant allows a discount of 16.66% on the marked

    price (MP) of an article and gains 25%. If the article cost

    (CP) the merchant at rs.400, find the ratio of listed price

    and selling price? (A) 5: 6 (B) 6: 5 (C) 5: 4 (D) 3: 2

    Solution: SP = MP Discount = MP 16.66%MP = 1-(1/6) = 5/6MP, SP = (5/6) MP, MP: SP = 6: 5

    Geometry

    In the figure below, AG = GE, GF//ED, EF//BD and

    ED//BC, find the ratio of the area of triangle EFG to

    triangle BCD?

    Solution: In the figure, GF//ED so GF will divide AE

    and AD in the same ratio. G, E, F and D are the midpoints

    of AE, AB, AD and AC respectively. GF, EF, ED and BD

    are medians in the triangles AFE, AED, ADB

    and ABC. Medians divide triangle into two equal

    parts, i.e. area of two parts is same. Assume area of

    AGF is x, so that area of GFE also equal to x, area of

    AFE becomes x + x = 2x. Shown in the figure,

    Ratio of Area of EFG/ Area of BCD = x/8x = 1/8.

    Similarly Area of AGF/ Area of EDCB = x/12x = 1/12

    Trigonometry

    Dont get tensed by looking at complex trigonometric

    equations, just substitute angles 090 , 00 etc.

    3 3

    3 2cosA 1 2sin A?

    1 2sinA 3 2cos A

    (A) 0 (B) 3 (C) 1 (D) 2

    Solution: Put A = 090 , 0cos 90 0 and 0sin 90 1 , 3 3

    3 1 2

    1 2 3

    3 3

    3 3

    0

    If2m(m+1)

    tan =2m+1

    , then cos =?

    2

    2m(A)

    2m +2m+2

    2

    (2m+1)(B)

    2m +2m+1 (C) m + 1 (D) m

    Solution: Substitute, m =1, 4

    tan =3

    , then 3

    cos =5

    (Basic Pythagorean triplets 3, 4, 5 (52 = 4

    2 + 3

    2)) so option

    B is satisfied for m = 1 which is equal to 3/5. Other Pythagorean triplets: 5, 12, 13; 7, 24, 25; 8, 15,

    17; 9, 40, 41; 11, 60, 61; 12, 35, 37; 20, 21, 29.

    In Tier I how you manage time (120 minutes) is important

    One of the best strategy for this, General English 20 minutes (25 + marks), General Awareness 10

    minutes (20 + marks), General Intelligence 35 min (40 + marks) and Quantitative Aptitude 55 min (35 +

    marks). Compare to other exams, here Reasoning and English sections will be easy, try to get maximum

    marks in any two sections, complete GS and English parts within 30 minutes or else that will kill your time

    for Quant and Reasoning parts, it is the main reason many are struck in Tier I itself. Write as many test

    papers as you can. Read only from few standard books, do not completely believe in any institutes materials
