DEAR FRIENDS IN RUGBY,

On behalf of the President, Mr Stephen Meek, and Patron, Mr Bob Dalziel, welcome to the 2014 Victorian Schools’ Rugby Union Grand Finals, superbly hosted by Geelong Grammar School. Congratulations to Geelong Grammar School, which celebrates 100 years of providing magnificent education at its Corio Campus. A special welcome today to President of the Australian Schools’ Rugby Union, Br Bob Wallace CFC AM, who has joined us today for the Grand Finals.

The 2014 season is all but finished where 60 teams in eight age groups/divisions played the “game they play in heaven” with passion and enthusiasm. The representative teams attending the Australian Championships and the other under age teams playing a series of friendly matches with Tasmania in both Melbourne and Hobart are to be congratulated. All players, coaches and parents should be very proud of their efforts throughout the year and all concerned thank the coaches, volunteers and parents for their time and expertise. Our thanks are extended to the referees from our community who dedicate so many hours to officiate the matches. Much appreciation is extended to Mr Justin Carroll, the VSRU Administrator, for all his work in 2014. We also thank the involvement of the Melbourne Rebels, both the professional rugby department and the community rugby department, for their constant assistance in 2014.

The VSRU acknowledges the generous offer by Geelong Grammar School to host today’s gala event and it would not be possible without the wonderful support from Mr Stephen Meek (Principal) and Acting Principal Mr Charlie Scudamore, Mr John Arton- Powell (TIC Rugby), Mr Matt Hanrahan (Head Groundsman) and all their staff who have worked so hard for the success of the day. Many thanks to the School’s Rugby support Group, the John Lewis Club, for all they do for rugby.

Enjoy the rugby today. Teams in the open age divisions will playing for end-of-season placings, culminating in grand finals between St Kevin’s College and Scotch College in the 1st Division and Marcellin College and St Patrick’s College in the 2nd Division.

Kevin Culliver Chairman VSRU

No matches scheduled to start on the pitch after that match shall be held up by any number of injuries/stoppages. The winner will be the team leading at the time of the severe injury that caused a match to be suspended before full time.

First Aid

Drawn Grand Finals

01. If a Grand Final is drawn at full time

then, after a 3-minute break, 10 minutes of extra time will be played (5 minutes each way with no break between change of ends).

02. If the Grand Final is still drawn following extra time, another 3 minute break will be taken and a further 5 minutes each way will be played until a team scores – this period of play will be ‘golden point’ where the first team to score will be deemed the winner. The game will finish at that point.

If neither team scores during the 10 minutes of ‘golden point’ play, then the Premiership will be awarded to the Grand Final team that finished the regular season higher on the ladder.

Presentation of Trophies

All presentations are at the conclusion of the 1st XV Division 1 Grand Final – all schools receiving Trophies in U15, U16 (Div 1), U16 (Div 2), 2nd XV, 1st XV (Div 2) and 1st XV (Div 1) are to have their Captain or Representative dressed appropriately and prepared to make a one minute speech of thanks (not all will occur).
