Sr. Basketball Come From Behind Overtime Win!!!

Congratulations to the Senior Basketball team for bring-ing home gold from their tournament in the Rick Johnson LCBI Classic in Outlook. The team played St. Brieux in the A final. It was an exciting ending with the boys taking a come from behind win, 80-87, in overtime!

Pink Shirt Day Pink Shirt Day originated in Nova Scotia in 2007 when two students decided to take a stand against bullying after witnessing a male grade 9 student be teased for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of class. The students purchased and distributed 50 pink shirts for all the boys in their school. Pink Shirt Day is now a national movement to raise awareness around the issue of bullying in schools. Preeceville School staff and students participated in Pink Shirt Day on February 26th to show support and stand against bul-lying in our school and community as well. Thank you to all that participated in this very worthy cause.

Families were invited to come and spend time in Kindergarten to see what we do on a daily basis. We called it “A Day in the life of Kindergarten”. We had 5 main stations that the students took their parents around to see. These included;

· Feelings station (oral language, healthy relationships, concept of spoken word) · Reading Corner station (benefits of reading) · Block Station (Building and comparing 3D objects – taller, shorter, wider etc.) · Letter and Number formation station · Sharing station where we use the EET tool

Each child had the duty to explain to their family why we do each station and what happens there. I included the outcomes that are being worked on and taught at each station as well. The students took great pride in knowing what to do at each station and loved sharing their knowledge that they had gained with their parents.

Jr. Curlers @ DistrictsMrs. Hull and the Junior Curling teams headed to Churchbridge on February 7th to compete at Districts. Though both teams played hard for each of their games, they did not bring home any medals. Thanks to Mrs. Hull for taking her time to coach the junior teams this season!

Jr. Basketball Wins Gold!

Congratulations to the Junior Bas-ketball team for bringing home gold from the Yorkton Sacred Heart tournament on February 7th and 8th.

The Senior girls played in Tisdale Feb. 7th and 8th! The girls had a close one with St. Mary’s, PA, on Friday, lost to Tisdale on Saturday morning, and ended the day with a comfortable win against Carrot River. Great weekend, girls!

Valentine’s Day was the perfect day for the grade 4, 5, 6 annual curling bonspiel. The kids were divided into 15 teams and each team played four games throughout the day. After the last rock was thrown and wins were tallied, the winning and runner-up teams were declared. It was a fun day of curling for the kids. Thanks to all that helped make the day a success!

Our senior girls’ basketball team is a new cooperative between our Panthers and the Kelvington Golden Hawks. Three girls from Kelvington – Danika Morrow, Aliya Geck and Jhanne Anasarias - joined Mor-gan Mitchell, Emily Prestie, Kate Covlin, Katryna Englot, Choe Chornomitz and Janhia Irlandez to create the new Preecev-

ille Panthers Team. Since many of the girls already knew each other, having played vol-leyball together last fall, the transition was an easy one. The team was also fortunate to have three grade nine players for most tournaments. Mia Mitchell, Emma Covlin, and Shanae Shewchuk were regulars on our roster and assets on the court. The Panthers played in five tournaments: Hudson Bay, Carrot River, Langenburg, Tisdale and the conference tournament in Canora. As the season draws to a close, we appreciate the growth we have seen in our players, and all of the fun we had together the last few months.

Float Sale Feb 28th

Junior SRC held a float sale on Friday, February 28th as a FUNdraiser for the school. Thank you to all who participated an thi fun event that benefits all the students in our school.

Thank you to all that came out and supported the Breakfast Cafe Toonie Pancake Breakfast on February 28th. All proceeds go towards the ongoing running of the breakfast cafe that provides a healthy breakfast for our students. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time to work at the cafe in the mornings to help run things smoothly and to clean up. It is greatly apprciated!

“A CRUSH for Your Crush” The SRC held “A Crush for your crush” sale in which students could buy a soda for their crush with the added bonus of it being a fundraiser for the SRC. Many students participated in the annual event. It is a fun way to spread some cheer around the school. Thank you to Miss Hanson and the SRC members for their work in put-ting on this event!

Beating the Winter Blahs: Ten Boredom-Busting Family Activities

It’s very exciting when the first snowflakes fall. However, after days indoors, the house seems to get smaller! Take advantage of the colder temperatures and shorter days to enjoy family togetherness.

Learn a new hobby. Teach your child to sew or knit something fun like a scarf, pillow cover, or a plush toy! Not a knitter or seamstress? No problem! Try some of these winter-themed crafts: paper snowflakes, marshmallow or cotton ball snowmen, or snow globes.

Get in the Kitchen. Find a baking project that kids can both bake and decorate. Try cut-out cookies, build your own pizzas or Rice Krispie Treats they can mold into creative shapes.

For the Birds! Birds often have limited food supplies in the winter. String garlands of popcorn, cranberries, raisins, and oranges. Make a peanut butter suet feeder. Recipes can be found on the internet. Hang them from trees or drape them on shrubs. Then, watch the birds come to feed! Keep track of the kinds of birds that visit.

Plant a bit of summer. Plant a windowsill garden. Herbs and some vegetables work well. A sunny window, a few small containers, some soil, and seeds are all you need to get started. Take a trip to the local garden center and let your children pick out their seeds.

Bundle up and go outside! Winter outdoor play is good for children. Being outside helps improve their problem-solving abilities, boosts their independence, and is crucial for their social, emotional and physical development.

Finally, when you have exhausted your ideas, have your children come up with their own activities. Give them a box of old discarded items or clothing and see where their imaginations take them. No matter how you choose to bust the winter blahs, the time spent together will be priceless!
