Friday June 7th Student Free Day
This is another reminder for our school community of our Friday June 7th Student Free Day (next week). Staff will be involved in a range of activities supporting our college priorities. The focus areas include STEAM, the Primary Mathematics Specialists initiative and ongoing reporting to parents using SeeSaw and Office 365.
School Council casual vacancies
A big and appreciative thank you to Claudelle Dalgleish and Antonella Grech who have accepted the invitation to fill our two 2 year and parent member vacancies on School Council. Welcome aboard. We still have a 1 year casual vacancy available should any parents be interested. You are welcome to contact the schools should you have any questions.
10th Birthday celebration update
Our 10th birthday planning team have started to develop a list of possible celebra-tion activities. These include: an aerial photo, a time capsule, a Springside concert celebrating all things Springside, a cultural food day celebrating the cultures of Springside and a Springside cookbook. We would also be welcoming back past stu-dents, families and staff to join in with our celebrations.
ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS—Violeta Delidis, Chris Gatt, Kate Newitt and Gab Zorko
Reporting update – Years Prep to 6
As our Prep to 6 families would be aware ongoing reporting platforms are being utilised in the primary sector of the college. We strongly encourage our families to regularly access their child’s Seesaw (Years P-2) and Office 365 (Years 3-6) portfolios to view the evidence of their child’s learning as this has replaced our semester reporting process. At the end of this semester, you will receive your child’s report which will contain their progression of learning against the Victorian Curriculum. These will be published on Compass to parents after school on Friday 21st June.
Reporting update – Year 9
Two weeks ago, Progress Checks were made available to Year 9 families via Compass. We hope that families have had the opportunity to review it with their child and made contact with any of the relevant subject teachers. At the end of this semester, you will receive your child’s report which will contain their progression of learning against the Victorian Curriculum and comments regards your child’s achievement and areas of future focus. These will be published on Compass to parents after school on Friday 21st June.
Parent/ Teacher Interviews
We will be holding Parent/ Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 25th June from 3.10pm to 8pm. These interviews are an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and the learning that has taken place. Interview times can be booked with your child’s homegroup and subject teachers. Booking are to be made via Compass. This will be available to families from Tuesday 4th June to Friday 21st June.
Compass Events
Please ensure that you keep an eye out on Compass for upcoming events, etc. If using the Compass app through your smartphone or other device, please select the ‘open in browser’ option from the menu so that you can access the home page.
Individual Education Plans & Student Support Group Meetings
All Individual Education Plans for student with a formal diagnosis are now finalised. The Student Support Group meetings for all students funded under the Program for Students with Disabilities are now complete and with a wonderful amount of success and growth shared. Teachers will be in contact in the coming weeks to meet with families of students with a formal diagnosis to share goals and targeted strategies. This meeting will be instead of the traditional parent teacher interviews held at the end of the term.
Abilities Based Learning and Education Support (ABLES) Assessments
The ABLES Assessment have been completed by teachers and support staff for students with a formal diagnosis to align with report writing. The ABLES Learning Progression is a formative, criterion-referenced assessment that provides targeted information as to the student’s next area of focus for learning, at a pace that suits his/her individual needs. This type of assessment show the student’s Zone of Proximal Development from Level A (Pre-foundation) to Level Four of the Victorian Curriculum
WHAT’S ON… in the Inclusion Hub?
Inclusion Hub
Massive thanks for all the Lego donations, your generous donations are bringing hours of joy to our young people. Lego Masters will commence next week on Wednesdays with students creating their individual master pieces during the Wednesday lunch break. Photos of the students with their creations will be shared and voted on at the end of the term. Student can practice their Lego skills every other day in the Inclusion Hub as they will have access to the Lego during all recess breaks. Over the coming weeks we will be looking for some greenery donations for the Inclusion Hub, sturdy indoor plants that require minimal TLC.

In Prep A, we have been learning about the different communities we belong to. We each created a person that represents ourselves and then talked about how we are part of a class community, as well as a prep commu-nity. Here is our joint community display, with every stu-dent from Prep.
This week in 2C we have been exploring ‘chance and probability’ and have been creating scenarios which could be ‘certain’, ‘likely’, ‘unlikely’ and ‘impossible’.
It is certain that all of our students are in 2C.
It is likely that Miss Vinny will give a success slip at the
end of the day.
It is unlikely that Mrs Newitt will come into our room
to sing.
It is impossible that the iPads will grow legs and run
away.
Students participated in an incursion for our
Intergrated studies unit which was based upon
‘Immigration Journey’ students were able to
participate in hands on activities that looked at
Australia history and today.
They explored various activities and came to the
understanding of the reasons why people immigrate
to Australia from other countries.
Students were able to understand the contributions
that immigrants have made to Australian society
today and learned just how diverse Australia is.
Here are some photos from our incursion.
The Spot on Sport
