Dear WSA:I want to thank you for the

Certificate of Recognition andthe surprise check. I cannotbelieve that it has been 60years since I became a mem-ber of the WSA.

I can still remember the daythat our lodge president cameto our home and my motherhad him sign me into the adultWSA, at age 16. I was theyoungest of 8 children.

After graduating from Carbon High School in 1949, Iwent to work at the Kenilworth Coal Company in the mine.I worked there until 1951 when I was drafted into the army.I served in the army two years, with one year’s time inFrance. I was discharged in 1953 and returned to my job atthe coal mine. When the mine had a large layoff, I startedworking for the Utah Road Department. I had 32 years withthe Road Dept. when I retired.

My wife Madeline and I have three wonderful children, sons Louie and Mark, and daughter Lynna. We have sevengrandchildren and three great grandchildren. I helped buildtwo houses for our children and am still helping buildhomes for grandchildren. We like to polka and have been tomany polka festivals. The outdoors, with hunting, fishing, and camping, is our usual activity but we have managedtrips to Italy, Alaska, Canada, and New York, just to name afew. Most of our trips involve family. My main achievementis having the most wonderful children, grandchildren andgreat grandchildren.

I want to thank you again for this recognition.Sincerely,

Louie L. Tonc

Dear WSA:Where does the time go, 60 years has gone by so fast.I appreciate all your help through the years. Thank you.

Dear WSA:What a pleasant sur-

prise to receive the checkrecognizing my 50 yearmembership in WSA. Ofcourse, it also remindedme of how old I am!

My husband Dick and Irecently celebrated our

50th wedding anniversary, which reminded us that ourwedding reception was held in the old WSA hall. Ibelieve there is a McDonalds there now.

Dick and I have lived in Arvada for the past 45 yearsand have raised our seven children here. We are enjoy-ing our grandchildren, and are busy attending baptisms, graduations, weddings, and may school and sportingevents, as well as welcoming great grandchildren.

Thank you for the check.Sincerely,

Eileen Golesh

Dear WSA:I want to thank you for my 80 year honor. What a

wonderful surprise. I am so glad my father enrollednine of us in WSA.

I just had my 96th birthday in January. I have been awidow for 19 years and am going into a retirementhome next month. Again, I want to thank WSA for thelovely surprise.

Sincerely,Joann Elhage

Dear WSA:I thank WSA for the certificate of recognition for

being a member 60 years. My father was one of thefounders of Western Star.

I have been in the Music Hall of Fame since 1999. Ibelieve I have done a lot in education and music thatfuture generations of people can aspire to. I love myEuropean Slavic background.

Respectfully yours,Frank L. Starginer

The following was excerpted from the Pueblo Chieftain:

Frank operates the Star Nurseryin historic Pueblo. It is a thriving

horticultural business which was started by his fatherin 1909. On the nursery grounds there is an outdoormuseum dedicated to the early settlers of FountainCreek. It tells the truth about a family, about hardwork, war, music and dedication.

To Frank history isvery vital. Withoutit, a civilization can-not move forward.

Frank continuesto play his accor-dion every day.He has touredwith the polkaking, FrankYankovic andwas a memberof the Jim Ehrlich Band whenit was voted the Best Polka Bandin Colorado in 1999. He alsoplayed for the Bear Axle semi-pro basketball team, playingthe Harlem Globetrottersbetween 1950 and 1962, evenbeating them once.

Casey Fenske

Dear WSA:Thank you so kindly for the

check and certificate commemo-rating my 50 years of membershipwith your organization.

I will celebrate my 88th birth-day May 11th, and in those 88years I have seen the world travel

from the horse and buggy to placing a man on the moon. Ithas been quite a journey and my 88 years have allowed meto witness many changes. Our ability to communicate isnow endless and sophisticated. Every home has a TV, tele-phone, computer and every individual has a cell phone. As Iobserve all of this I somehow wonder if people really arecommunicating or just simply talking. There is a differenceyou know.

I was fortunate to have shared over 60 years of my lifewith a faithful loving husband and was a stay-at-homeMom. We reared three children: a schoolteacher, a bankerand a mortgage broker. As I reflect back over the years, westruggled, but our struggles were much simpler than theyoung families of today’s world. My lifetime achievementcan simply be stated as, “a woman that loved, laughed andlived a very good life.” And now in the autumn of my lifemy memories are a source of comfort and joy.

Thank you. Sincerely,

Antoinette Paglione

I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that

I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this

Kindest regards,Linda Mitchell

President and CEO Colorado Alzheimer’s Association

Dear WSA:I am writing to thank you for your generous

donation to the Roseville String Ensemble. Wegreatly appreciate your continued support ofRSE’s programs in the Roseville area.

Your contributions have helped the ensem-ble expand its partnerships and outreach inthe community this year and deepen theinvolvement of our amateur musicians.

In spring 2004 we partnered with MoundsView High School and Centennial UnitedMethodist Church in Roseville to present a“Community Showcase” concert featuring six giftedyoung violinists and cellists and Centennial’s talentedorganist, Bob Nienaber. This concert was recorded bythe community access cable channel and broadcast to awide suburban audience.

Our fall concert was the first of two this season inpartnership with professional musicians from theMinnesota Orchestra. Kenneth Freed was guest conduc-tor and violin soloist November 6th. On April 24th, Mr.Freed will again conduct the ensemble, this time withMinnesota Orchestra violinist Peter McGuire and oboistJohn Snow as soloists. These concerts are an excitingopportunity for our players and our audiences, who getto hear these exceptional artists at no charge in neigh-borhood venues.

Our third concert this year is an annual RosevilleArea Community Carol Sing-along on Dec. 20th, whichinvolves the community in the music and spirit ofChristmas. Our musical partners include a uniqueensemble, the St. Mary’s Cathedral Balalaika Orchestra, which plays Russian melodies as part of the concert.

Thank you again for your support of RSE! Sincerely,Linda Owen,

President, Roseville String Ensemble
