PRIMARYSpring is drenched in feelgood colours

Primary colour is a hot spring/ summer trend for men and women. On the catwalk it was worn head to toe; what better place to start from than the top?

Technicolour runways dominated the spring/summer 2014 shows. Thanks to Celine, Prada and Alexander McQueen pop art

primaries feel new right now. It’s easy to master and makes a big impact on your 2014 update.

At Celine tops, dresses, coats and skirts were the blank canvas for bold primary brush strokes (you’ll have seen the knock-offs on the highstreet already). At Acne primaries were brought in to give good old nautical blue and white new fresh-ness. At Alexander McQueen neo punks were clad in blue and red in checks, tweeds and beads; part street part Masai. At Prada they were part of a literal palette. Portaits were worked into dresses, coats and bags. Primary colour came in fur, embel-lished and cut with sporty stripes.

Whether it’s print or straight up colour blocking, simplicity works best. Adding khaki in a la Prada or monochrome or pastel a la Celine is ultra mod-ern and quietens the colour if you want to hold a little back. But accessorising is a must for the ultimate pulled together look.

C E L I N E A U D R E Y Celine is so good that its dedicated followers collect its wares in several col-ourways. The Celine Audrey the brand’s star frame particularly lends itself to accumulating. This definitive oversize bears more than a little resemblance to the frame worn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in that iconic image of Hepburn in Givenchy gown and shades. Thick luscious acetate is handcrafted. Seven joints in the hinge add to the satisfyingly sturdy frame. Triple hinge pins complete Celine’s signature look. All Celine’s eyewear matches the catwalk in style and colour. Flashes of red frequent the house’s hallowed runway. Teamed with pink, as Celine often does it’s so modern. But if there’s only one bright in your wardrobe this spring make it this one.

M I U M I U 0 1 P SThe model went wild about this frame at our shoot and rightly so. It’s the shape. What this frame does is tap into the masculine vs. feminine style trend so ingeniously. It’s bold and angular, strong but its upswept giving you a dash of the ultra feminine cat eye. This incarnation gives you a dark crystal (see through in eyewear speak) frame face. Deep high glam temples are a flash of red. That’s your statement accessory and primary colour sorted. You can also tick off bright flora with this one too. Over the interior is a layer of floral acetate that you will display with a little movement of the head.

I T A L I A I N D E P E N D E N T 0 2 3 If big brands are a little too obvious for you Italia Independent is what you want. Karl Lagerfeld prefers it to sunglasses by Chanel or his own epony-mous labels. This highlighter yellow flat round lifts any look and your spirits. So original and unexpected. We love this as a little fluoro toughener to new season florals and or lace. It’s very Christopher Kane. The matte finish seals the deal. Trendsetters need only apply.

S H E R I F F A N D C H E R R Y G 0 0 8The best kept sunglasses secret to those in the know; Sheriff and Cherry fre-quent the faces of the throng at fashion week. This unique take on the classic aviator covers all your primary blocking for you. The asymmetrical colour is a real buzz. But the iconic shape makes it feel not such a hard wear. Take one colour or match them all or team with white. You’ll love dressing with this fine frame. The anchor and star emblems are a cute touch too.

R A Y - B A N E R I K A Erika outsells the iconic Aviator and Wayfarer at times. The replicas are already on the high street. But not with Ray-Ban’s hot new velvet finish it isn’t. To the all important keyhole bridge is added another stack of character. This new adventure in retro works the same easy frame shape with the added sensuality of vivid velvet. In bright blue with matching flash mirror lenses it’s a riot. As blue continues to be a hot colour and coordination too, this blue drenched frame begs to matched with more.

The menswear shows were drenched in primary colour. Burberry Prorsum was the most prolific with a head to toe master

class in primary colour blocking well informed by Christopher Bailey’s idol, painter David Hock-ney. Mastering the basics will take your look up a notch for good. Single colours worn tone on tone are the easiest take away. Generally as Burberry avoided, bringing all in; blue, red, yellow and green can look a little over done. But repeating one primary and pairing with another looks great. Mix brights and darker tones to prevent children’s TV presenter syndrome. Keep it low key and sporty with sharp sweatshirts and hoodies. You can break them all up with white or print if it feels too much. This is really a full length look from sunglasses to shoes. But as ever you don’t have to commit the whole frame if you don’t feel like it. Coloured temples like that of the Polo 4076 or the Carrera 5002 are great examples. Choose trendy matte over a glossy frame; for a look that’s more sharp less showy. A timeless vintage inspired shape will give you a more grown up look. Flat thin frames will give it an ultra contemporary edge.

R AY- B A N 3 0 2 5 J M AV I AT O R F U L L C O L O U R One of the most in demand frames of the season, the Ray-Ban 3025JM has the perfect on point palette for primary dressing. The classic Aviator comes clad in richly coloured acetate. We love the exposure of the metal chassis at the bridge and the temples it looks really premium. The green is such a great hue, matching lenses seal the deal for a complete, Full Colour look.

S H E R I F F A N D C H E R R Y G 0 0 8The hipster’s best kept secret Sheriff and Cherry give edge to classic shapes. The G008 does all the work for you for with some fine primary colour blocking. Mismatched temples provide a twist that will set you apart com-pletely. Metal at the temple, bridge and edges adds a real premium edge. Then there’s the legendary flatterability of the frame; the cheekbones and jaw line are accentuated upping your sex appeal. And who doesn’t want that?

Page 24: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

R A Y - B A N 4 1 8 7 C H R I S The velvet suit has returned to the male wardrobe in recent years. It now ex-tends to eyewear. That kind of sensuality is really luxuriant and it’s a sartorial statement men should revel in. This ultra masculine Ray-Ban Chris is boxy, flattering and features sleek metallic arms. A decadent covering of velvet in navy blue here gives you serious strokability and elegance. Rich Flash mirror lenses up the ante for this attention seeking frame.

I T A L I A I N D E P E N D E N T 0 2 3Italia Independent is little known but widely worn. There’s a huge fashion following, Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld rarely takes them off. The sports fans are just as high ranking F1 star Felipe Massa and Juventus mid fielder Andrea Pirlo wear them. Thin and flat, that’s the new trend in metals right now. Italia Independent is leading the way. This sharp ultra contemporary take on the retro round also bears a rubber matte varnish finish. A highlighter yellow frame with matching oil slick mirror lenses makes your mark indelible.

R A Y - B A N 4 1 6 5 J U S T I N The decidedly masculine Ray-Ban 4165 Justin is a little boxier than the brand’s Original Wayfarer. This rich bright blue is matched by Ray-Ban’s Flash Mirror lenses for a coordinated look. The rubberized gummy texture provides another key update for 2014. The iconic Ray-Ban logo is in metal at the temple and etched over a single lens.

P R I N T SPrints are at their most wild and varied right now. A perennial fashion fixture for women, for men they are taking in more of the wardrobe than ever.

And now - for spring/summer 2014 - you see them at their boldest...

It’s out with the minimal and in with the maximal this season. Prints are at their most wild and varied right now. There were Bras-

sai inspired graphics at Celine (a huge influence on the high street), graffiti in Versace’s street inspired collection and paint swatch brushstrokes at Chanel. At Prada head on portraits looked out of dresses, coats and bags. The leading florals came courtesy of Marc Jacobs; outlined and dark back-dropped. At Dior bright tea roses came in neat pleats. Statement sunglasses were favourite for topping off bold graphics. In black they quieten down the look, ground it. There are two tacks; match the graphic element with frame silhouette and keep it plain; black is unmatched for impact. Or if you do opt for print in eyewear keep the frame simple. Coordinated prints are hot this season so do match. But you don’t need to commit the whole frame to print. A flash of the stuff at the temple is just enough. A layered interior is even more subtle…

Page 42: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

M I U M I U 0 4 P S G L O WAn extreme shape like this can stand up to any print, even the art house ones that are proving so popular. The collections were heaving with embellishments too. Strewn over coats, dresses, hats, socks and shoes it’s time to think head to toe. And applied to sports pieces Prada and Marni made it a must for day-wear. With Prada and Miu Miu bringing their eyewear and jewellery collections together it couldn’t be a better time. Sixteen hand applied crystals grace the face of this frame. Pink’s a hot colour for the season too. Contrast dappled temple tips add a flash of mono into the mix.

P R A D A 2 8 P S P O E M EFrom the Prada Poeme collection the 28PS comes inspired by Prada’s S/S13 catwalk spectacles. Squared off it’s easier to wear, but no less of a state-ment. The florals that ran over the frame face and clothes take to the interior of this handcrafted sunglass. Thick bold lines provide the perfect graphic edge to print. A slight dip of the head will reveal it; understatement at its finest. Monochrome, another longstanding trend is dealt with here too.

Page 43: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now
Page 44: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

C H A N E L 5 2 8 2 QChanel brings back the deep templed fashionista worthy frame this season. Luxe patent leather bows are an audacious touch and a wonderful playful take on a house code. The thick handcrafted frame flatters and wears it very well. Whether or not your prints come courtesy of Chanel this season this serious sunglass will accompany the most graphic prints not to mention provide a centre piece for the look.

R A Y - B A N 2 1 4 0 W A Y F A R E R U R B A N C A M O U F L A G E With the season’s artistic streak and a general preoccupation with colour the Ray-Ban 2140 Urban Camouflage couldn’t have come at a better time. The temples of the original wayfarer now bear camo fabric that comes off not unlike paint splatters in this superb purple colour way. Talk about the art of accessorising...

C E L I N E P A P I L L O NThere are so many Celine knock-offs on the high street wearing the real thing earns top fashion kudos. A dream cat eye the Celine Papillon is super softly rounded. A classic feline shape is contrasted with almost circular lenses. Deep winged temples live up to the face. Thick hand sculpted acetate is a pleasure to touch and wear. Triple hinge pins accompany the Celine house logo photoengraved under lacquer. The Papillon commands any print you throw at it.

Prints cover more ground in the male ward-robe this season. And men seem to be rolling with it too becoming more intrepid

as the seasons go on. Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Prada all backed florals on the runway. Christopher Raeburn, Belstaff and Valentino presented camouflage anew. Stripes were served up bright and clean at Burberry Prorsum, Paul Smith and E Tautz. You can join in without working it in your clothes. Sunglasses allow you to break the look down into a single piece.

Coordination is a hot trend too so bringing things together by matching your stripes or camo to your frame will have you on point. But if coordination leaves you cold, there’s always the print mash up for a nonchalance that’s packed full of character and confidence. And you needn’t commit the whole frame either. Keeping print to the temples provides a flash of it making for cool understate-ment. Matte finish dampens down a print too, it’s not so loud.

Page 54: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

P O L O R A L P H L A U R E N 4 0 8 3The grown up way to do print. The Ralph Lauren Polo 4083 gives you an update on timeless tortoiseshell too while you’re at it. At the temples a flash of easy blue and white stripes add a sportif edge to your take on classic retro. The short style is one of the easiest there is too.

Page 56: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

D O L C E A N D G A B B A N A 4 2 0 3 This is most definitely not a print. But it’s all the better for it. These stripes are created from an impressive six layers of acetate. It’s lasered away at the edges revealing a stack of bright stripes. It’s a great sporty contrast against the tortoiseshell face. We love the bright interior too. Subtle but so fresh. Whether it’s a crisp white shirt or tee this frame brings a stamp of luxuriance to your look.

R A Y - B A N 2 1 4 0 W A Y F A R E R U R B A N C A M O U F L A G E The latest take on Ray-Ban’s original Wayfarer comes dressed with camo temples. It’s a subtle statement. Kept to the temples it allows you to fly under the radar a little with your print. It’s great to stand out again in this ubiquitous style. The frame of course is still handcrafted. And mineral glass lenses offer the best clarity there is.

Page 57: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now
Page 58: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

I T A L I A I N D E P E N D E N T 0 9 0 Italia Independent’s pared down take on the wayfarer is definitive. And not only does it come camoed, it’s matte too. The subtlest branding at the temples; the Italia Independent double I monogram is another contemporary finish to the piece.

G U C C I 3 6 5 3 SSince the fifties some of the sharpest most coveted stripes around have been supplied by Gucci’s iconic webbing. Here they add a sporty verve to a classic retro round. We love the way it dresses down and freshens up the vintage keyhole bridged style. Play up to either sportiness or old school charm, or both.

Sporty chic has reached new heights in fash-ion. Trainers were on the couture catwalks at both Chanel and Dior in Paris in Febru-

ary. For the spring/summer 2014 ready-to-wear shows Prada’s models were a veritable sports team in primary brights, sporty stripes, knee high sports socks and trainer-sandal-heels. The ante was up with bold embellishment in stones and sequins. Marni took the same tack with lashings of stripes and sunshade visors heavy on the embellishment too. Gucci was the epitome of sports luxe which made straps and stripes a central theme. Art Deco colour and pattern made it unique, elegant. Slinky light stripe sided sweatpants set the tone for one of the key pieces of the season as did heavy flat topped sunglasses. Indeed the sunglasses are crucial. Here’s how to top off in the right way.

Page 64: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

S H E R I F F A N D C H E R R Y G 1 1 - S Mirrored lenses have once again made the crossing from sports eyewear to fashion. We have been spoilt with all the colours of the rainbow. A simple silver mirror looks very chic amongst the bright flashes. Sheriff and Cherry’s G11-S is a unique take on the wayfarer. An upswept frame verges on the cat eye. White stripes and blue dipped temple tips nail your sporting stripes to the mast. Anchor and star shaped hinge pins are unmistakable to those in the know.

T O M F O R D C E L I A The luxe in sports luxe, the Tom Ford Celia works the designer’s signature criss-cross detail at both bridge and temple. The sporty straps and stripes of the catwalk are matched perfectly by the metal. The feline rims hang on the metal frame. At the temples the unmistakable Tom Ford metal T is inlaid. Another metal plaque is worked into the temples tips and an etched lens authenticates the frame.

Page 66: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

C E L I N E Z Z T O P Stripped back and ultra luxe the Celine ZZ Top is the ultimate sports chic piece. The key to its success (it’s very bold but it’s also a Celine bestseller) is that it’s both flattering and statement-making, which isn’t always the case. Handcrafted from substantial Italian acetate (the best in the world), you can really feel the quality. Seven joints in the hinge make for a seriously sturdy frame. No wonder Celine is one of our most in demand brands.

O A K L E Y E Y E S H A D E S Oakley’s reissue of the eighties’ Eyeshade has all the drama of a catwalk piece. Fresh and clean this visor will be the centre piece of your spring/sum-mer wardrobe. They’ll add special kind of old school cool to silky sweatpants with heels or sneakers and couture sweater that a fashion brand just won’t.

C A R R E R A C H A M P I O N Like the mirrors and matte finishes rubberisation also comes to fashion frames from the sports category. Carrera’s iconic eighties sporty aviator now comes rubber templed. Go faster stripes and Carrera decals add instant sporty dash to your look. There’s also that legendary flattery as teardrop shaped lenses accentuate the cheekbones and jaw line.

Sports style comes through for men in 2014 with classic pieces such as sweatshirts, shorts and anoraks pared back and clean.

A focus on fabrics add a luxe factor; neoprene and leather for example seen at Christopher Raeburn and Dior Homme. Aerated fabrics add simple dis-tinction with instant sportif appeal. At 3.1 Philip Lim there were oversized football shirts given an urban rework in check.

This is really a full length look from sunglasses to shoes. But as ever you don’t have to commit the whole frame if you don’t feel like it. At Emporio Armani the mesh effect was set in hexagonals and spread from tees to tailoring. Mirrored sunglasses, flat tops and visors abounded to top off the looks. The latest eyewear trends take mirrors, mattes, logo bearing and rubberisation directly from per-formance eyewear.

Page 76: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

R A Y - B A N 4 1 4 7Ray-Ban 4147 is a cool blend of Ray-Ban’s Wayfarer in its vintage hinge pins and corner flicks and Aviator in that teardrop lens. It adds a great retro twist to sporty looks. What’s more is this frame flatters as much as the iconic Avi-ator too. The light propionate frame and plastic lenses make this oversized frame ultra comfortable.

C A R R E R A C H A M P I O NUltra contemporary matte finishes add instant sportif cool. Rubberisation comes right off the sports frame to the iconic retro aviator. And with go faster stripes and Carrera decals you’ll feel very much in Pole position.

O A K L E Y R A Z O R B L A D E SThe cool of the old school is untouchable. Oakley revives the 1987 Ra-zorblades in its Heritage collection just in time for the new season. Switch between the excellent trigger temples or straight ones depending on your mood. Pair with pared down plain sweatshirt and shorts for a look that’s both on point and original. Match the verve of this sunglass with rich techy fabrics. A stiff box fresh neoprene sweatshirt is perfect. Copy the colours too for slick coordination.

R A Y - B A N C A T S 5 0 0 0 The Ray-Ban CATS 5000 in its new colours are perfect for the season’s stripped back sport agenda. The straight matte black ultra clean frame comes with a light orange mirror. This effect is perfect for those that want to get in on the mirror trend but don’t want that thick oil slick look. And again that flatterability is there for everyone who puts it on.

N I K E M E C U R I A L 8 . 0 Branding is back and Nike is answering the call, just look at the ticks on this. The Mercurial 8.0 is an easy to wear wrap that will serve you when you do want to spring into action too. The nylon frame and lenses are tough. Nosepads provide comfort. Monochrome, another top men’s trend adds more style cred.

The new pastels are cool and collected with no place for flounce or frippery. At DKNY pastel colour blocking was of the urban

kind in dungaree dresses, sweatshirts, polo shirts and racer straps along with fresh loose tailoring. Burberry was the most prolific with lace, pure sheers in pencil skirts, shirts, dresses and trench coats. It’s off colour combos provided the key palette reference for SS14. At Dior folds, pleats, wrapping and pinching gave sugary tones a look that was both elegant and contemporary.

Layering pale pink tones was the subtlest way to pep up pastels at Stella McCartney. McCartney also colour matched pastel pieces with pale pink sunglasses. Whether it’s tone on tone colour, col-our block mixing or just accessorising great pastel sunglasses are a breath of fresh air to your 2014 wardrobe and an original take on the must-wear palette of the season.

Page 90: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

C E L I N E O R I G I N A L The sheer trend was big too played out at Dior, Burberry and Celine and more. Sunglasses have been ahead of the game for several seasons. They are also the most forgiving take on going see-through. Celine’s iconic Origi-nal in pale orange crystal colour is the perfect strong statement accompani-ment for the 2014’s bold pastels. Handcrafted from premium Italian acetate it exudes the quality and styling that makes Celine one of the most influential and coveted houses right now.

R A Y - B A N C L U B M A S T E R L E G E N D SYou can stand out once again in the iconic Ray-Ban Clubmaster. The new Legends series features vintage inspired coloured lenses. The pink is perfectly pale. The timeless tortoiseshell frame also bears an up-to-date matte finish. Polarisation is quite a rare thing for coloured lenses too so take advantage.

C H L O E C E 6 3 1 S Chloe is a champion of the blush tones that are so hot right now. It’s applied to an easy to wear high rise round. Luxe metal detail toughens up pastels and cry out to be repeated in more accessories. Triple hinge pins are a distinctive vintage note. Gradient lenses shade the eye line adding yet more flattery to this feminine frame. A pearlised finish adds a glam sheen.

D I O R P R O M E S S E 3Dior’s pastels are some of the most contemporary under Raf Simons. It comes through in sunglasses with this modern take on the cat eye. Ultra feminine the style gives the cat eye an extra light line around the silhouette. A chic navy blue face in up to date matte is matched by light blue temples. Metal spheres on the temple end come inspired by the metal jewellery on the DiorBar 1 bag.

M I U M I U 1 3 N S N O I R Miu Miu’s 13NS from the Noir series is the easiest to wear retro round there is. Thick hand crafted acetate is given a light look with slim antiquated metal bridge and arms. Across the genista yellow incarnation are fine flecks of glitter that are so subtle, but so Miu Miu. The lettered logo runs over the temples and a single lens.

R A Y - B A N 3 0 2 5 J M F U L L C O L O U R A V I A T O RRay-Ban’s Full Colour version of the classic Aviator is one of the season’s key pieces with its on point palette. Coordination is another hot trend. Here colour matched lenses provide the ultimate pulled together look. Paul Smith, Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs all gave pale suiting a new kick. All did it with a dash of white in the mix to make it

thoroughly modern.

At Tom Ford it was a white turtle neck beneath a white buttoned pink tone on tone pastel silk trou-sered suit. At Paul Smith white trousers and tieless shirt gave a pastel pink suit jacket a contemporary look. At Marc Jacobs white shoes did the same job to sharp orange or blue pastel suits.

Sunglasses added edge too Ford and Smith. A dash of pale colour also comes in the form of a distinctive lens from Ray-Ban (where they are also polarised), Persol and Oliver Peoples.

Coloured lenses have been favoured by men of distinction for decades from Steve McQueen to John Lennon to Johnny Depp to Robert Downey Jr. Great menswear is all about the details follow suit in your frames with a unique display of eye catching metal.

R A Y - B A N C L U B M A S T E R 3 0 1 6 L E G E N D SRay-Ban’s classic Clubmaster is hard to beat for character. But it beats itself at its own game with the new vintage inspired Legends lenses in pale pink here. Pink is big for men this season it’s confident, playful and is thus very sexy. The tortoiseshell is matte too, the ultimate update. The lenses are also polarised, not always the case for a coloured lens.

S E R E N G E T I B R E R ASerengeti bring retro up to date with this smooth take on the classic rectan-gular frame. Distinctly masculine textured metal detail forms a unique copper hinge. Discreet branding lets the style do the talking. And with the brand’s world class polarised lenses it’s got the performance to back it up too.

O L I V E R P E O P L E S B A N K SA truly exceptional frame, the Banks bears the mark of the Oliver Peoples tradition of machine age tooling. Beautiful filigree rolls out over temple ends, bridge and eyewire. Antiquated metal has the look of rare vintage. Smooth handcrafted acetate is bevelled at the corners showing off that intricate detail. Light tortoiseshell lifts your look blue lenses supply subtle distinction.

B U R B E R R Y 4 1 5 4 QNew from Burberry this brow line style has just the right edge to back up pastels with a bold edge. Thick acetate sets you apart. Worn by Steve McQueen, Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Daniel Craig’s Bond and Ryan Gosling to name a few on screen and off these sunglasses are the pinnacle of taste and distinction. This is a modern take on the fifties wayfarer style. A smart flat brow line and full bridge make for a bold look. The frame is completely handmade including those iconic metal arrows. Flexible temples make for a bespoke fit. Glass lenses provide the best clarity there is.

M A U I J I M H A N A H O UMaui Jim is famed for its exceptional lenses; colour and clarity reign supreme. Its recent collection is the best yet style wise. The Hana Hou metal round is utterly unique. Antique style metal is given the distinction of tooled detailing. Sleek tubular acetate arms add a sophisticated splash of colour. Round metals (dull matte ones especially) are a runway hit this season and the next judging by the autumn/winter shows. It’s not a perfect round either making it easier to pull off.

It’s a season of conceal and reveal fashion and white takes a central role. Lace was prolific, in white at Dolce and Gabbana, Balmain and

Erdem. Contemporary takes on lacework provide an edgy alternative seen at Alexander McQueen and Giambatista Valli with geometric cutting. Pure sheers were big too at Erdem, Balenciaga, Antonio Berardi, Fendi and Lacoste. Clear sunglasses pick up on the trend and are infinitely more forgiving.

Texture was created in more innovative ways; whites were slashed at Acne, quilted at Balmain and in slinky lattice work at Celine. There were white origami folds at Valli and sharp pleats at Al-exander Wang and Celine too. At Paul Smith and Chloe white was romantic in long flowing dresses but still kept clean and unfettered.

White sunglasses as seen at Burberry’s influential spring/summer 2014 show look excellent with pastels. White cools off the season’s hotter colours too. A white sunglass is much easier to look after than white shoes and bags not to mention shirts and trousers...

B U L G A R I 8 1 0 4 S E R P E N T I As luxuriant as it is trendy this take on white brings transparency and monochrome to sunglasses too. It’s a thrill to see this jewellery icon that celebrates its 130th year (what better time to finally own Bulgari?) this year remain as contemporary as it has always been. The Serpenti bracelets, belts and timepieces were worn by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Vreeland back in the day. Ever contemporary Serpenti extends to bags and sunglasses worn today by A list ladies such as Miranda Kerr, Naomi Watts and Nicole Sherzinger. They come dramatically to sunglasses in the easy to wear 8104 (designed using the original Serpenti sketches). Each scale is hand filled with enamel a process that takes four hours per handcrafted frame. You’ll feel every inch the modern day diva.

S E R E N G E T I S O P H I AWhite was cut repeatedly with sheers on the runway. Adding clear frames to white is the most forgiving way to wear the look. Serengeti’s are one of the most easy to wear. A gentle modern cat eye (hand crafted from acetate) it flatters with that iconic feline shape. The Polarised Driver’s lens adds a lovely warm look to contemporary clear acetate. It cuts glare too and Spectral Control offers the best clarity and colour. At the temples distinctive notched core wire details make for a discoverable attention to detail.

D I O R A U D A C I E U S E 2Monochrome which is to continue well into 2015 judging by the autumn/win-ter shows is becoming a fashion staple. A high fashion take on it will set you apart from the rest. The Dior Audacieuse 2 evolves from the spring/summer 2013 catwalk frame. Lenses run away from the frame and fluid lines run wild over fork temples echoing Raf Simons’ revolution at the house of Dior. The old CD monogram is a vintage touch from the house. Ivory is a white hue that is softer tack to brilliant white.

K A R L F O R I T A L I A K L 0 0 3 SKarl Lagerfeld takes his love of Italia Independent (you won’t find him wearing anything else these days) further with a new collaboration. Italia Independent’s pioneering I-Velvet is soft to the touch, washable and fade resistant. In addition to sensual texture this dramatic take on the wayfarer provides unique faceting adding edge to your look quite literally. Karl Lagerfeld’s silhouette sits between Italia Independent’s monogram at the temples. This is a truly unique take on the season’s monochrome and tribute to a fashion icon.

A L E X A N D E R M C Q U E E N 4 2 3 8 SAlexander McQueen provides an original utterly contemporary take on the cat eye. Taking inspiration from its iconic Heroine bag, the temples sit at the centre of graceful open sections mimicking the loop through which the bag’s handles thread. The ends are finished with sleek polished metal. Metals are a hot trend. It’s a tough luxe edge to your white, you’ll love matching more accessories with the strong metallic element in this sunglass. The Alexander McQueen lettered logo runs over the temples picking up on the metal. Again ivory is a softer shade of white that’s much less stark.

The season’s vintage Americana trend is distinctive, suits all ages and is fun. Sunglasses are the piece de resist-ance. Indeed the season’s hottest retro frames are the

very thing whether you are channelling the trend or not. The flat open loop collared sports shirt is another fast pass to a look that says authentic Americana. The baseball jacket continues to be a designer favourite, so you will be spoilt for choice. And just a pleated more voluminous trouser seen at Prada and Topman Design this season, creates the easy look of the era. Look to Saint Laurent’s closer cut trouser if edge is what you crave.

Topshop Design’s use of metallics to mod up the look is an excellent tack. Mirrored lenses or belts or both are perfect. Ray-Ban’s latest update on the Clubmaster (see below) couldn’t be more perfect. Satin shirts and jackets add yet more showmanship to it all. Ray-Ban’s velvet framed Chris is yet another attention seeking option. Prada’s take on aloha print was dark, literally too with stormy scenes and a preference for darker colour. Von Zipper’s Gnarwaiian printed Elmore is an original take on the print of the season in sunglass form.

Look for tooled metal and leather to add a Western feel. At Etro modern suiting was cut with Western detail. Tooled belts and guitar cases were echoed in appliquéd clothes. Tooling appears in several very special sunglass frames right now. Look to Maui Jim’s Kolohe featuring superb tooling over the bridge and temples. Ralph Lauren’s 7045Q Western and the Oliver Peoples Banks are more tooled frames to look out for at Sunglasses Shop.

Page 134: Spring Sunglasses Style Guide - What To Wear Now

V O N Z I P P E R E L M O R EThe best Hawaiian prints of the season are the darker ones, they come off cooler literally too. Like in Von Zipper’s decidedly stormy blue Gnarwaiian take on its hit Elmore sunglass. Matching vivid blue mirrored lenses lift your look even further. A large rectangular shape, the Elmore is just one of those sun-glasses that suits everyone. Slick metal branding adds a sophisticated edge. There’s Von Zipper’s lifetime guarantee against manufacturer’s faults too.

R A Y - B A N 3 0 1 6 C L U B M A S T E R F L A S H M I R R O RThe rock star was well and truly present at Saint Laurent’s influential mens-wear collection. Mirrored lenses add a real sense of showmanship to a look. The iconic Ray-Ban 3016 Clubmaster perhaps has some of the most char-acter in all the men’s frame shapes. The ante is upped with rich head turning Flash mirrored lenses. A matte finish provides another contemporary twist. This frame is handcrafted and still features glass lenses for supreme clarity.

M A U I J I M M A K A W A OAnother from Maui Jim’s outstanding new collection, the Makawao is a strong flat top take on the wayfarer. Great menswear deals in subtlety; these are the perfect expression in eyewear. Rectangular lenses flatter. The Olive Stripe streaked acetate is distinctly fifties –esque perfect for a subtle take on Americana. Deep temples continue the striking line on the brow. Maui HT lens technology balances contrast and depth of field making for crisper detail in varying conditions.

R A Y - B A N 4 1 8 7 C H R I SVelvet is very much a part of the male wardrobe again with velvet tailoring becoming a go-to for evening wear. The flattering Ray-Ban Chris now comes clad in a decadent velvet finish. This is for the man that likes to stand out, to be unexpected. Chris is a retro update with keyhole bridge and contem-porary slick metal temples. Mirrored lenses up the ante for one attention seeking frame. Matching blue rubber temple tips complete the coordinated look. Coordination is another key trend. Working this into your look layering up textures and tones is a riot whether it’s your dark denims or chinos.

M A U I J I M K O L O H EMaui Jim’s latest collection is one of its best yet. The Kolohe serves up premium retro style. It’s full of distinction but has lens technology that backs it up too. A contemporary take on tortoiseshell the superb acetate features subtle contrast flecks. The metal bridge is tooled as are matching temples. The bridge cuts through the acetate. A keyhole bridge makes for a striking flourish adding more authentic vintage appeal and character with it. Then there are the lenses. Kolohe’s MauiPure lens has the lightest weight. And it’s scratch and impact-resistant. These are the crispest optics you’ll get next to glass. The anti-reflective coating applied to the inside of the lens stops the light behind you reflecting onto your eye.
