Some employers will be looking for students who have studied a relevant law degree,

but many will have opportunities for students from any degree discipline.

Many employers recruit early and want to meet final year students, students looking

for a placement or both

interested in.

If your target employers promote themselves using social media sign up and follow them.

Update your CV before the Law Fair—drop in to get some help with this from the

employability team if you need to.

Have copies of your CV available—or even a business card - to leave with your target

employers.

On the day Dress professionally to create a positive first impression.

Get a copy of the Law Fair Guide and make a plan of who you want to meet. Keep an

open mind, you might be surprised by the range of vacancies available.

Approach the employers, introduce yourself and find out who you are talking to. Don’t

just say “hello” and grab the company brochure.

If you feel nervous plan a short script and aim to spend about 5 minutes with each

employer

Make sure you have their name, and make a brief note of what you discussed.

If they give you their business card it’s an invitation to contact them. Send them a brief email to thank them and keep in touch.

28. The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) www.cilex.org.uk/ CILEx is a professional body that represents Chartered Legal Executives, trainees and paralegals. Chartered Legal Executives are professionally qualified, specialist lawyers who can also become court advocates, partners in law firms and judges. Law (and GDL) graduates can study for the CILEx Graduate Fast Track Diploma (a one year, part-time, professional legal practice qualification that complements employment as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant). Continued “qualifying employment” leads to admission as a Fellow of CILEx (FCILEx) – a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer. Victim Support pays all out of pocket expenses, carries out regular support and supervision sessions for volunteers, holds regular volunteer team meetings and social events. Opportunities: Volunteering Opportunities – volunteers work in the Visiting Service, carrying our home visits to people whose lives have been affected by crime; support witnesses in court; work with young witnesses to help them understand the court process or provide support in specialist fields such as homicide, domestic abuse and hate crime.
