The Wachusett Views News from the W News from the W orcester Chapter orcester Chapter Appalachian Mountain Club Spring 2007 Appalachian Mountain Club Spring 2007 Spring in Worcester County! (Under The Red Felt Crusher) By Chapter Chair, Barbara Dyer H appy Spring! Spring has sprung and we’re moving forward quickly into a wonderful time of year to “Get Out There”! Spring is one of my favorite times of year because so many things return to life; people come out of hibernation, rivers flowing wildly, and so many exciting things happening in our chap- ter. We have a lot of events planned for you this spring including our Worcester Chapter Retreat at Noble View free to all WR chapter members and fami- lies on May 11-13. The Noble View Committee is providing us a free weekend as a thank you for our generous grant we provided. All are wel- come especially new mem- bers and families. Our spring picnic is sure to be a great time. Last year we had over 100 people attend at Hopkinton State Park. We had a variety of options from biking, hiking, paddling, and volleyball as well as big kites. It was a great time had by all with our many families and new mem- bers attending. Please join us again on Sunday May 20 th . Other important con- servation events our chapter is sponsoring is Earth Day activities, urban parks cleanup, as well as National Trails Day. These events are a great way to get out, pro- vide a community service and feel a sense of reward by giving back to the environ- ment. No experience is nec- essary and all are welcome especially new members. Now is the time to get involved in YOUR club! This issue is dedicated to all our trail volunteers who give forth so much of their time and energy to our local trails. Some goals we have as a chapter include working in conjunction with the AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative. Starting a Chapter Youth Program. Forming a Photography Club. Updating our By-laws. Partnering with the Big Brother/Sister pro- gram and other youth groups and Broadmeadow Brook Audubon. Protecting the Mid State Trail. Adopt a park series. Public Relations Outreach. Create a conser- vation and membership com- mittee. More leadership opportunities and recruitment of leaders. Please join us! This season promis- es to provide something for all including paddling oppor- tunities, hiking, numerous social events, photography programs, conservation initia- tives, and the annual Cape weekend. Be sure to see our web page for an updated list- ing of all events at www.amc- worcester.org. I hope to see you soon….. Happy Trails!
