PREPARATON• I sprayed the surface with a coat of Americana
Sealer/Finisher and let dry.• Then I applied a coat of gesso.
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONSBackground• Transfer on the black circle area.• Paint the circle in the center with Lamp Black. Paint
the outside edge with Primary Yellow + White 1:1• Transfer the pattern.• Because I am working on black I base coat all the
designs in the black area with two coats of Gesso or white paint.
Pink Roses• Paint the pink roses with a base of Baby Pink.• Apply a coat of blending medium to one petal at a
time and apply Royal Fuchsia to about 3/4" of the area then with a mop brush soften and blend this into the base color.
• Float two coats of Royal Fuchsia on the edge.• Add a highlight on the edges with Buttermilk.• Paint the centers with Burnt Orange then using an
old scruff y bristle brush, tap Primary Yellow over this leaving the under color showing here and there.
Blue Daisies• Base the blue daisies with Periwinkle, shade fl oat
Ultra Blue Deep on the edges and highlight using Buttermilk. Add tiny lines on each petal with Ultra Blue Deep.
• Paint the centers in with Burnt Sienna and tap over this color with Primary Yellow.
Leaves and Vines• Paint the leaves and stems with a mixture of Hauser
Medium Green + Forest Green + Evergreen 3:1:1• Float the shadow on the edges with Hauser Dark
Green and a touch of Lamp Black. Float Citron Green on the edges for the highlight.
• Using a script liner add a line of Citron Green to the highlighted edge and on the stems here and there and add tiny lines on each leaf to represent the veins.
Brushes (from left to right)
BRISTLES AND HANDLES• First brush handle is painted with Buttermilk and
shaded with Periwinkle.• The bristles are based with Periwinkle, then come
over this color with Buttermilk using a Script Liner.• The second brush is painted with Peacock
Teal, shade with Ultra Blue Deep, highlight

with Buttermilk.• Base the bristles with Burnt Umber with a touch of
Lamp Black, come over this color with Burnt Sienna + White 5:1 and then add lines of Burnt Orange over this.
• The third brush base is Burnt Orange. The bristles are based with Burnt Umber and a touch of white.
• Come over this with Buttermilk using a script liner.• Leave a little of the under color showing at the base
where the bristles come out of the ferule.
FERULES (METAL SECTIONS)Paint all the ferules the same: Base with Zinc, shade fl oat with Lamp Black and highlight with Buttermilk. All the lines are Lamp Black. Lastly add a refl ected light on the right side using Periwinkle and a Script Liner.
Plaque EdgesUsing the dotting tool apply the large dots with Peri-winkle then using a stylus add the smaller dots with Royal Fuchsia and a touch of white.
FINISHINGApply a coat of varnish.
