reaching beyond...partnerships COMMUNITY HOSPITAL - FAIRFAX, MO

We have been working with Docs Who Care for many

years, and we have greatly appreciated the additional

coverage DWC offers to our community and the support

that these physicians provide to our Medical Staff.

Lindsay Allan, MD DWC physician since 2015

I am a better physician because of my experience with DWC. It has diversified and strengthened my skill

set as a physician which has increased my confidence in the quality of care I can provide patients. I began

moonlighting with DWC in my third year of residency and a large part of my success was due to their sup-

portive staff. They were quick to process my application and have streamlined the process to get creden-

tialed at the hospitals. They started me at a lower volume location and made themselves available 24/7

for any assistance I needed. So positive has my experience been, I am now taking a permanent position

at one of the hospitals at which I worked. I am incredibly grateful for my experience with DWC, and would

highly recommend it as an opportunity to further anyone's development as a physician.

John Buckner, MD DWC physician since 2014

I have been working with DWC for almost 2 years now. I first got involved when I began moonlighting dur-

ing residency. I have found all the staff and schedulers very easy to work with, and they have been by far

the most physician-friendly group I have worked with. When it comes to Community Hospital in Fairfax I

feel a particularly close connection. My wife and her family grew up in small towns around CHF and al-

most all of them have been to the ER there on some occasion. The entire staff has always been very

friendly and helpful throughout my shifts. They are genuinely excited to make their community happier

and healthier place to live. There truly is a community feel at this hospital and with this group that is very

hard to find anywhere else. I appreciate everything that DWC does to help support critical access hospi-

tals like Community Hospital in Fairfax.

Over the years, we have been able to develop wonderful working rela-

tionships with many physicians and we especially enjoy the consistency

in which we see the same providers. This has helped them become part

of our hospital team and our community. Docs Who Care is a valuable

partner to our hospital and our community.

DWC partner since 2013

“ I enjoy working for DWC because my job allows me to do what I love,

which is practicing full-scope family medicine in rural areas, while giving

me plenty of quality time for my family, volunteer work, and other

hobbies.

DWC physician since 2011

In 2015, Docs Who Care restructured the administrative staff into Regional Teams. This

innovative, new approach to site and provider management has been in place for

well over a year, and the concept has been tremendously successful.

Each Region provides focused support for all staffing requests, scheduling, provider recruitment, regional

marketing, credentialing, residency outreach, team development, and other general assistance. The

Regional Teams work closely with the administrative staff of our hospitals and are committed to serving our

communities with quality, efficiency, and excellence.

Docs Who Care respects life outside of medicine by offering a flexible work

schedule that allows Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to pursue

other interests such as family, service opportunities, volunteering or personal

aspirations.

our heroes of healthcare

Andy Bukaty, DO, Medical Director, DWC

DWC physician since 2005

Dr. Bukaty has worked with Docs Who Care since August 2005

and is deeply committed to serving communities across the Mid-

west and Colorado through his skills as a Family Practice physi-

cian and as DWC’s Medical Director. Dr. Bukaty has a great heart

for medical missions, and has traveled world-wide assisting with

medical care to those in need. He also serves as part-time faculty

member at Research Family Medicine Residency Program, provid-

ing oversight to residents in the residency clinic.

In addition to this work, Dr. Bukaty is deeply committed to and

involved as Medical Director for Camp Hope, a summer camp for

youth who have or have had cancer. Camp Hope offers campers

an opportunity to do things that all children do and to be among

peers who have, or have had, similar life-threatening illnesses. He

also is a founding member and active board member for Camp

Hope Heartland, a nonprofit organization that assists children

with health needs.

In addition, Dr. Bukaty provides physician oversight as Medical

Director for GreenCo Education, an ASHI-accredited advanced

medical training center that teaches ACLS, PALS, NRP, and BLS to

healthcare providers.

He is dedicated to his

family and finds time to

coach basketball and soc-

c e r f o r y o u t h

sports. Because of these

efforts, Dr. Bukaty has the

respect and gratitude of

those for whom and with

whom he serves. It is excit-

ing to see how the efforts

of one person can make a

difference in the lives of

so many.

It is with great pleasure to announce that Dr. Andy Bukaty and Dr. Rick

Randolph are the recipients of the Ingram’s Magazine Heroes of

Healthcare 2016 Award. DWC recognizes the outstanding leadership

in healthcare and service to others of these recipients.

Rick Randolph, MD, Chief Medical Officer, HHI

DWC physician since 2005

As an Army National Guard

physician, Dr. Randolph was

stationed near Ashraf, Iraq, in

2004 when he first met Dr.

Gary Morsch. These two physi-

cians, from Johnson County,

Kansas had never met each

other, and their first encounter

was in a very strange post,

near the Iranian border.

Through this unusual encoun-

ter, Dr. Randolph would ulti-

mately become Chief Medical

Officer for Heart to Heart Inter-

national (HHI), the non-profit

organization, founded by Dr.

Morsch. HHI provides humani-

tarian development and crisis

relief worldwide.

Prior to this assignment, Dr. Randolph served around the world as

a military officer and a physician. He left active duty in 1995 to

become a partner for a Family Care Center in Lenexa, but re-

mained with the National Guard and continued to deploy overseas

with special forces units. Once he returned to the states, Dr. Ran-

dolph started working with DWC, where he found that the organi-

zation reflected Dr. Morsch’s vision of caring for others in a pro-

fessional, empathetic way.

His first experience with HHI came after the Haiti earthquake in

2010. In 2015, he signed on for six-weeks with a Heart to Heart

Ebola treatment unit in Liberia. Liberia ultimately turned into a six-

month assignment.

Dr. Randolph believe that his faith motivates and inspires him. “I

realized that the skills and experiences I had, in medicine and in

the Army, could be best used helping others in the developing

world.”

Docs Who Care congratulates, Dr. Randolph

and Dr. Bukaty for their great service!

the DWC family continues to grow

Who partners with Docs Who Care?

Our focus is first and foremost serving rural communities where physician recruitment

and retention is a challenge. We provide Physician and Advanced Practice Provider staff-

ing in a number of states throughout the Midwest and Colorado. We also offer contract-

ed full-time ED staffing for Critical Access Hospitals.

Who should consider working with Docs Who Care?

If you are looking for life balance as an independent contractor, we offer both moonlight-

ing and regular practice opportunities. Our Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers

are proven, quality health care providers who are committed to serving others.

“ ...we know that whom-

ever is sent will make

every effort to provide

the best possible care to

our patients. Our local

providers have been

able to take advantage

of increased time off to

be with their families.

reaching...the front lines Sometimes in emergency medicine

we are given a stubbed toe and some-

times we are given a real chance to

make a difference in people’s lives.

During a weekend shift, I was given one of

those real chances. A diabetic patient present-

ed with “the stomach bug.”

As I reviewed the symptoms, all I could see

was red flags waving in front of my face. Of

course all of the symptoms could be explained

away by hypoglycemia however; the patient

never checked the glucose to confirm the sus-

picions. When I asked about chest pain or shortness of breath, the patient denied

both. I was not convinced. I then specifically asked about reflux or heartburn symptoms.

The response was, “Well, now that you mention it….”

The heart was my number one concern. Within minutes of the patient’s arrival, the EKG

confirmed my suspicion. The patient was out the door before our labs even had time to

process. The EMS squad got the patient to the cath lab safely and they are now doing

well. My nursing and EMS staff could not have done a better job. I am so blessed to

have such a great team to work with!

DWC Physician Assistant since 2011

& A Q

Dr. Gary Morsch, President and CEO of Docs Who Care, is

pleased to announce the newest member of the Docs Who

Care family. Graham Morsch is now serving as the Accounting

Manager for DWC.

Graham joins the organization after several years of experi-

ence as an Accountant and Operations Accounting Analyst at

a large energy company in Oklahoma City. His knowledge will

be a valuable addition to the daily operations in the DWC Ac-

counting Department and its affiliated entities. Graham also

provides support to other areas of the organization, including

building management and information technology.

Outside of the office, Graham stays very busy with his family

and church activities.

We are privileged to have Graham join our team!

“ One of the

favorite things

about my job is

seeing the

hospitals and

clinics we serve

and meeting

our amazing

providers! It’s

energizing to

see the impact we are

having on

these

communities. Graham Morsch, Accounting Manager

Page 6: Spring 2016 life.line issue 33

I recently ran across a quote from John Dewey that states a simple truth,

“Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another.” As I reflect upon

the exceptional year we had at Docs Who Care, this is indeed the truth

we are carrying into 2016.

Not only did DWC meet and exceed our key expectations in 2015, we

did it while maintaining our mission of service - to serve the healthcare

needs of rural hospitals across the Midwest and Colorado. We have

amazing providers and staff that give their best on a daily basis to ac-

complish this mission.

We also see our DWC providers reaching new heights, as described in

Our Heroes of Healthcare article. In addition, many are serving in ways

they never imagined. Our own, Dr. Jenifer Cook, of Wichita, KS, was just

appointed to the Governor's nine member Rural Healthcare Working

Group by Lt. Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D., who will be leading the group.

Dr. Cook, who has worked with DWC since completing her residency in

2001, was chosen as a physician who has worked in 18 rural Kansas

communities. She has been asked to sit at the same table as top policy

makers to address the problems of health care delivery in rural Kan-

sas. Quality manpower shortages, an aging population of patients and

health care providers, inefficient technology utilization, declining health

of rural communities and all possible funding sources and ideas are be-

ing considered and presented to the committee.

The group's findings will be presented to the Governor prior to the 2017

legislative session. In addition to serving on this committee and her

work with DWC, Dr. Cook has traveled worldwide, volunteering with

Heart to Heart International in their disaster relief efforts. Dr. Cook

demonstrates a way of giving back to her community and who is striving

to bring better healthcare in the future to those she serves through DWC

in the state of Kansas.

I could not be more humbled and proud of the work DWC is doing for

rural healthcare. We have plenty of new goals set for 2016 and with the

help of our staff and excellent providers, DWC will continue to be the

leader in providing exceptional healthcare services across rural America.

Thank you for sharing your skills, your passion and your future with Docs

Who Care!
