Greetings Everyone

Wellworth is having a wonderful year. Our study

groups are flourishing, membership is up, and we

have already begun to plan for next season’s

programs. Let me tell you what’s going on.

Hard to believe, but our chapter is ten years old. As a

result, we’re having a celebration. It will be a

luncheon at Benvenuto on Friday, March 20. The

Famous Ladies Theater Company will entertain us

with their take on the lives of Ann Landers and Dear

Abby. Debby Gershon is the point person for this

event.

Just the day before, on Thursday, March 19, there will

be a membership tea at 10:00 a.m. at the home of

Linda Greenhill in Valencia Shores. Tell your non-

member friends. If they join Wellworth at the tea,

they will receive a 15 month membership for the price

of a 12 month membership.

This June marks the final push for the Sustaining the

Mind campaign. The goal is $3 million; we are at

$2.3 million now. This campaign funds research into

neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s,

ALS, Parkinson’s, and autism. There’s still room for

your contribution.

And finally, congratulations to Wellworth’s past

president, Ronnie Gerstein, who will take the helm as

the BNC Florida regional president in April.

Best wishes,

Carol Rosenbaum

PHYLLIS LEDERMAN

Happy birthday to Wellworth/Westend Chapter! We’re now 10 years old and we have always

been active participants in the ‘Sustaining the Mind’ campaign’. The campaign is now 3 years

old, and it has just reached the 2.3 million mark. The campaign’s ultimate goal is to raise three

million dollars for research and treatment for a whole array of brain-related disorders; such as

Alzheimer's, Parkinson’s, autism, epilepsy and MS.

Some exciting innovations are occurring in the field of neuro-science today. These scientific

changes affect everyone and everything with a brain and a nervous system. Recently everyone

was taking the ‘ice bucket challenge’ to raise money and awareness for ALS. Dr. Robal, assis-

tant professor of biology at Brandeis University said, ‘the ice bucket challenge

showed empathy can be infectious which is a very good positive thing’. Brandeis has been

instrumental in developing techniques that will be utilized by the Blazeman Foundation; an

organization involved with the funding for research and treatment of ALS.

Research will lead to a break-through in understanding and treatment of these diseas-

es. ‘Sustaining the Mind ‘ is an investment in tomorrow’s scientists and treatment of these

neuro-degenerative diseases.

Wellworth chapter has been very happy to

share our study group offerings with guests. We

want you to know, however, that for the 2015-

2016 season, guests will be admitted to only one

study group with a member friend. After that,

if the guest wishes to attend more study groups,

the guest will be expected to join BNC. This

includes guests who are spouses, significant

others, or live at the same address. So please

plan ahead.
