Hulen Street bridge commuters gain a little more elbow room

Motorists traveling across the Hulen Street bridge may be able to shave time from their daily commute. In a continuing effort to ease congestion along the bridge, North Texas Tollway Authority crews opened a dedicated right turn lane from northbound Hulen Street to Vickery Boulevard. Earlier this year, NTTA and City of Fort Worth crews expedited work in the area to open an additional northbound lane at the intersection of Hulen Street and Vickery Boulevard. Both agencies will continue to monitor traffi c conditions and signal light timing to ensure smooth traffi c fl ow.

The area has been under construction since April 2010. The new Hulen Street bridge is expected to open to traffi c by late 2012 and the entire CTP is expected to open by mid-2014.

In addition, the highly anticipated opening of the Arborlawn bridge is scheduled to become a reality later this year. TxDOT crews expect to have the bridge open by the end of 2012. Once completed, the Arborlawn Drive bridge will provide a connection between Bryant Irvin Road and Hulen Street.

Parkway Taking Shape

Commuters traveling up and down the Chisholm Trail Parkway corridor can see the signs of progress on the project. Interstate 30 has taken on a whole new look as crews work to prepare the right of way for the new road. Crews have cleared brush and removed pavement on the northern end of the project so that they can begin construction of drill shafts. Site work is expected to continue between the Fort Worth and Western Railroad and Summit Avenue.

West of the Hulen Street bridge, CTP main lanes over the Trinity River are taking shape as crews continue to place concrete for bridge decks. Further south, work continues with the ongoing installation of drainage structures in several locations. In addition, site preparation work continues in the area south of Altamesa Road.

B.I.G. Meetings held

The NTTA hosted three business owner outreach meetings in March. The Business Information Group meetings serve as a direct link between business owners and managers and the CTP project team. Approximately 80 commuters, residents and business owners attended to learn about the project. In addition to a presentation from the NTTA, project partners (the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Fort Worth) also provided information on projects related to the CTP. Currently, there are three B.I.G.s in the Fort Worth area: I-30 downtown/Fort Worth, Hulen Street and south Fort Worth.

For more information or to join one or all of the B.I.G.s, please send a note to [email protected] or call 817-916-5105.
