In almost every case, the applicant responds, “I want to give back – I want a sense of purpose.”

The book Why Good Things Happen to Good People affirms this thought. Written by Dr. Stephen Post,

Professor of Bioethics and Jill Neimark, a magazine columnist and editor, the book identifies the benefits of giving back – both physically and mentally. Among the list:

Giving quells anxiety

Late in life, giving to others helps facilitate self-forgiveness

Giving to others increases longevity

Volunteering reduces the possibility of

depression, Alzheimer’s and dementia

Whatever your reason for volunteering, we are so fortunate to count you as a member of our talented team!

Inspired by the success of our “The Keys to our Values” recognition program for

employees, we’d like to formally recognize our volunteers for the

multitude of good deeds they perform on a daily basis at Montefiore. Beginning in

April, volunteers who exemplify our values – TEAMWORK, EXCELLENCE, DEDICATION, RESPECT, INTEGRITY and INNOVATION – may be rewarded

with “stars.” Ten stars earned are redeemable for a complimentary lunch

at the Downtown Café on the lower level.
