Welcome

On behalf of the team at Spraoi agus Spórt I would like to

welcome you to our 6th Annual Spraoi agus Spórt Summer

Festival brochure.

Each year our festival gets bigger and better and this year

is no exception as we cater for an ever increasing audience.

Surfing is back as is Cooking and Baking, and our Irish

Camp. We have lots of new faces this year with the LEGO

Club and Gymnastics.

We have some great one off workshops every Friday such

as Jumping Clay, Cupcake Decorating and Kite Making.

I hope you like the activities we have on offer and if there is

any class you would like to see in Spraoi agus Spórt please

let us know.

Our new website is up and running and places can be

booked and paid online.

We also have some fundraising events coming up, a Fun

Run-Walk on June 3rd and a Good as New. Proceeds from

this year’s Inish Tractor Run on Sunday June 5th are going

towards our Youth Club for Children with a Disability.

School of Music Concert

Our annual end of year School of Music Concert will take

place in the Colgan Hall Carndonagh on Sunday 19th

June at 2pm & 4pm.

Everyone welcome Admission €3 adult

“Good as New”

We are opening a “Good as New” on July 4th and would

appreciate donations of clothing and bric-a-brac. We also

need volunteers so please let us know if you can help!

Mums are encouraged to come along to these relaxed 2

hour sessions, a multitude of toys are available for the

children to play with while Mum gets a chance to have

a well-deserved cuppa and a chat!

every Saturday during July designed to put a smile on

everyone’s face.

“Spraoi Time”

Join us every week day during July & August for some

“Spraoi” time, children will have lots of fun with arts and

crafts, games, active play, singing and dancing. This is a

drop off session though parents are most welcome to stay.

Each day has a different theme.

Autism

“Club Spraoi” Youth Club

Children have the opportunity to avail of a tailored made

programme of activities which includes music, dance, yoga,

messy play, arts and crafts, movie time and baking.

The club is managed by experienced facilitator’s with the

assistance of SNA’s and volunteers.

Monday’s & Wednesday’s in July & August *

1pm-5.30pm for ages 4-9 years

*No Youth Club on Monday August 1st.

Tuesday’s & Thursday’s in July & August

1pm-5.30pm for ages 10+ years

This youth club is non-diagnosis specific, before joining an

initial discussion is required with the club facilitators.

All activities must be booked in advance.

One-to-One Support

We will provide one-to-one support for any child who re-

quires it to avail of any of the mainstream camps.

S w i m m i n g

The pool in Milltown House, Carndonagh will be available

for open swim sessions every Monday, Wednesday & Fri-

day from 4pm-6pm. €3 per child. Siblings welcome.

Horse-riding

In Cooley Stables Moville every Saturday morning.

Foyle Sailability

Sailing & water based activities for people with disabili-

ties in partnership with Foyle Sailability.

Left for Love Arts & Crafts July 4th—July 8th

Left for Love will be holding an entire week of their fantas-

tically fun children’s art and crafts classes. As all chil-

dren have the natural ability to be creative, draw and

paint our aim is to develop on this and have loads of fun

in the process.

Inky Fingers June 29th—July 1st

Children love to tell stories—they do it all the time. As we

get older we forget that we all have unique power as writers

and creative thinkers. Inky Fingers is a workshop helping

children of all ages to tap into their creativity and write

their own stories, brought to you by Kathy Donaghy

(Journalist with the Irish Independent).

Science Club July 11th—July 15th

Scientist Dr. Trish Murphy will take children through an

exciting array of experiments answering the why’s and

how’s of everyday life. Learn about the human body, look

at animals up close, make something cool from kitchen

ingredients and investigate the forces that control our

planet.

Get Active/Stay Active July 11th—July 15th

Venue St. Patrick’s Girls School.

Children will love this alternative sports camps for children.

It’s full of fun active activities including a range of non-

traditional sports, these will include indoor sports athletics,

fun circuits, hockey, playground games, table tennis and

volleyball to name but a few.

Daniel Gallanagh and Inishowen Surf School challenge

you to try your hand at conquering the waves on our In-

ishowen beaches in a week of fun surfing and orienteering

together with beach awareness and safety, beach/rock

pool excursions and talks on local wildlife and environ-

mental awareness. Part funded by the Loughs Agency.

Jungle Arts Watercolours Workshop July 18th—July 22nd

Children will discover how to draw and paint wonderful

animals: Elephants, Monkeys, Leopards, Bears, Zebras

and other animals you may not have even heard of!

Learn amazing facts about these animals in this exciting

summer workshop, then make water colour paintings and

create your own masterpiece under the expert guidance of

Gerry Bradley.

2nd – 6th Class

The Creation Station will bring your children’s imagination

to life with fabulous art and craft creations - create charac-

ters and invent new things using a wide variety of materials

and tools to shape your wonder. Spend each afternoon im-

The Brickx Club August 1st—August 5th

Josephine McCallion will host the Brickx Club for a super

LEGO® building Summer Camp. Let your child’s creativi-

ty and imagination flow with daily building themes, chal-

lenges and fun!

Irish Mythology - Art & Fashion Design July 25th—July 29th

The children will engage with their imagination during this

week long camp under the theme of Irish Mythology creat-

ing artwork and learning about lots of mythological charac-

ters.

The younger children will experiment with all areas of art

and design while the older children will concentrate on

fashion and costume design throughout the week.

The camp will be led by an experienced facilitator and qual-

ified art teacher Cróna Kerr. Cróna holds an honours de-

gree in the visual arts and a PGCE in art education. She

has worked on county-wide community arts projects for the

past 11 years.

Pier Swimming August 1st—August 5th

Venue Bunagee Pier, Culdaff

Swimming lessons for children aged 5+ at Bunagee Pier.

Lessons will last for one hour under the guidance of two

instructors and cost €30 per child. There are 4 levels.

Please bring your own wetsuit—one will be provided if you

do not have one. Bring some armbands if needed and

goggles.

An Ghaeltacht August 8th—August 12th

Venue St Patrick's Girls School

Grace McCarron, Catherine Jennings & Sheila Doherty will

bring you on an exciting journey through the Irish lan-

guage. Experience the Gaeltacht in Carndonagh this sum-

mer with our Irish Summer Camp. Explore art, drama, sto-

ries, myths, games, sport, computers and much more

through the medium of our Irish language.

The group will be split up into age appropriate groups.

This camp is part funded by Foras na Gaeilge

Shooting Starz Gymnastics strive to provide an opportuni-

ty for both boys and girls to experience the benefits of

gymnastics. Their workshops ensure gymnasts acquire

skills in physical fitness, strength, balance, co-ordination,

flexibility and stamina.

Performing Arts August 15th—August 19th

Venue St Patrick’s Girls School

This exciting experience will give your child the opportunity

to explore singing, acting and dance while having fun and

making friends!

This camp aims to awaken your child’s interest in the per-

forming arts. Taking hits from the Musical Oliver, your

child will explore each aspect of the arts, developing their

singing, acting and dance skills, including ballet, contem-

porary dance, hip hop and jazz. A performance on the final

day of the camp will showcase their new abilities and the

fun they had in the process!

Children with no musical experience have an opportunity

to develop basic music skills, while others can build on

their existing ability. Facilitators Catherine Jennings &

Jessica Peoples of Zona Dance.

Gymslip August 22nd—August 26th

Declan Mulhern brings his Gymslip workshop to Spraoi

agus Spórt. This camp is geared towards children aged 3-

7 years.

This camp will teach your child basic gymnastic tech-

niques in a fun way with lots of games thrown in to keep

the children active and entertained.

Fun with Stitch August 22nd—August 26th

Learn to stitch in a fun and creative way with Bernie Mur-

phy Textile Artist/Designer. All you need to get started is a

basic grasp for sewing and needlecraft. Each day offers

ideas on how to create exciting projects with stitch.

James Monagle & Sheila Doherty will host twice weekly

table tennis and basketball sessions throughout the sum-

Wooden Birdhouse Friday 1st July

This fun session will give you the opportunity to assemble

and decorate your very own birdhouse using acrylic paints,

glitter and stick on embellishments.

our selfie frame and accessories!

This fun session will give you the opportunity to assemble

and decorate your very own farm animal hand puppets,

there are 5 designs to choose from and are great for creat-

ing and starring in your very own puppet show.

This fun session will give you the opportunity to design

your own kite using acrylic paint, sharpies, photos or just

your imagination. Once the kites are assembled hours of

fun flying them can be had!

Jumping Clay Friday 12th August

Jumping Clay is imagination in the palm of your hand!

Jumping Clay is air drying modelling clay, with one aim!

Creative Fun! This workshop is all about getting creative

and bringing your imagination to life while making your

own masterpiece to take home and treasure forever.

Wood Craft Design Friday 19th August

The workshop with Johnny Shiels will involve a design

process first where the children will draw the outline of a

car or a tractor on MDF, they will then help to cut out the

shape before drilling holes for the axles.

After fitting wheels they can then decorate and paint their

vehicles and finish with a race against the other cars and

tractors.

T-Shirt Printing Friday 26th August

This workshop will give you the opportunity to design and

personalise your own t-shirt or create an existing design

found in the marketplace using acrylic paint, sharpies and

your imagination.

Recorder Workshops Every Friday in July & August

Spraoi agus Spórt is delighted to have Ciara Fagan on

board this summer to provide one-to-one master classes

in Recorder. Beginners are most welcome.

Ciara is a Foundation Scholar at the Royal College of Mu-

sic in London. Her principle instrument is the recorder

and she also enjoys playing the piano and cello.

Ciara will be offering 30 minute slots every Friday.

Please contact us to arrange a time to suit.

August 1st from 10am-6pm
