Chamber ChequesDuring the week before Christmas,
The children brought gifts for their teacher. The florist’s son brought
The teacher a bouquet of flowers. The candy-store owner’s daughter
Gave the teacher a pretty box of candy. Then the liquor-store owner’s son
Brought up a big, heavy box. The teacher lifted it up
And noticed that it was leaking a little bit. She touched a drop of the liquid With her finger and tasted it. “ Is it wine? “ she guessed.
“ No,” the boy replied. She tasted another drop...
And asked, “ Champagne ? “ “ No,” said the little boy...
It’s a puppy!”
Don’t take any chances with your gifts this year. Give Chamber Cheques. They never go out of style and they certainly don’t leak. This past year nearly $63,000 in Chamber Cheques have been spent in Hays!! What a great way to promote shopping local year round, but especially during the holiday season. Give them to your family, friends, co-workers, child’s teacher, mailman, hair stylist, anyone on your list. Get them in denominations of $5, $10 or $25. Don’t forget, special order denominations may be purchased for the holidays. It’s easy! Just stop by and see us at 2700 Vine or call ahead at 628-8201 and we can have them ready for you with no waiting.
Connecting Business. Creating Commerce. Offering Opportunities.
In October, we welcomed Jessica Krogstad to the Chamber team as the new projects coordinator. She will oversee all of the external communications and promotion of Chamber activities and events, as well as assist with the Hays Area Young Professionals, Ambassadors, and

Operation Renewal is an event in which Chamber Ambassadors visit businesses and
deliver new 2014 membership window decals. This one-on-one opportunity connects the Chamber with its mem-bers, allowing you to share information about your business and ask questions regarding your Chamber membership.
This year, we would like to pose two questions that will help us continue to provide quality service.
1. What do you value most about the Chamber?
2. What additional program or service would your business benefit from?
Our goal is to continue to promote prosperity in the community through business, leadership and growth. Operation Renewal is an important program to help in-crease your knowledge of the Chamber and the Cham-ber’s knowledge about your industry.
Expect a smile on one of our dedicated Ambassadors between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 19. There are plenty of decals available, so be sure to request extras for additional entrances, exits and drive-thru windows.
We would like to thank our 2014 members for their partnership and our Ambassadors for donating their time and talents to the Chamber and its members.
Event gives members a chance to connect
The Hays Area Chamber of Commerce and Western Beverage would like to congratulate January’s featured business, Vitztum Decorating Center and Carpet One of Hays Floor and Home.
Located in downtown Hays, Carpet One has been providing the community with floor-ing and decorative services for more than 68 years.
Throughout the company’s 68 years, there have been many significant awards and milestones, including:
• Winner of the Hays Area Chamber of Com-merce Business Leader Award.
• Selected by Milliken Corp. as one of the origi-nal 300 “Milliken Place Carpet Showrooms” in the United States.”

Italy, here we come!
At the Chamber, we always look for ways to maintain financial stability so we can offer quality programs to our members at af-fordable costs. (Sounds a little like running a business, doesn’t it?)
When we can accomplish this while also providing a service to the community, it’s even better.
We are so excited to partner with Central Holidays, a group tour operator specializing in trav-el through Europe. This partner-ship will allow interested travelers (Chamber members and beyond) to affordably connect with the world.
In turn, the Chamber will receive a referral fee for every traveler, allowing us to take advantage of a unique funding opportunity. Plus, the Hays Area Chamber will serve as the official host and share in the experience with you.
I personally met the general manager last spring and have been exploring the feasibility of such adventures since then.
Central Holidays has Created a stellar reputation within the
Chamber industry, and provides destination ex-pertise while handling all of the travel details.
To kick off our travel program, we have chosen to head to the Tuscany region of Italy, spending seven nights in a four-star hotel nestled in the medieval town of Pistoia, with one night in Rome. Much is included in the low cost of $2,799 (per person double occu-pancy), such as hotels, meals, day trips, airfare from Kansas City and much more.
If you are the adventurous type and would like to join me in touring the Chianti Wine region or enjoying authentic Italian cuisine, be sure to reserve the dates of Nov. 14 to 22.
Those interested in learning more about this program are in-vited to attend an informational presentation at 5:30 p.m. March 6 in the Welcome Center.
I look forward to discovering the treasures of Italy with you. Next year, who knows which corner of the globe we will visit next.

Continuing Education CoursesIn business, we often hear the
words leadership, professional and expert.
When you think about the type of person who fits those titles, would you place yourself in a tier beside them?
They are important words by definition, and most us of would like to be able to use them to de-scribe ourselves.
As your Chamber, we believe it is important to support you dur-
ing the secession of your career. We provide programs such as
Leadership Hays, HAYP and Ambassadors.
Now, through a partnership with FHSU Management and Devel-opment Center, we are offering discounted continuing education workshops.
Challenge yourself to think differently. Dare to make your ideals a reality.
