The Science Behind
Human-Animal Bonds
March 20, 2019
4:00—5:30 PM
Lynn Hall—Ground Floor—Room G167 Dr, Monique Udell
Oregon State University
Corvallis, OR
There is no doubt that many people form deep mutual bonds with their
animals. Where this bond comes from and how different styles of bonding
may impact the lives of our pets is often less well understood. In this talk the
basics of human and animal bonding will be explored, including how research
on parent-offspring attachments has more recently been extended to study
cross-species relationships. Looking at some of this data, we will discuss
possible implications for human-pet relationships and animal welfare.
Refreshments will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
