28 And we know that for those who loveGod all things work together for good, for those who are called according tohis purpose. …13 May the God of hopefill you with all joy and peace inbelieving, so that by the power of theHoly Spirit you may abound in hope.(Romans 8:28 & 15:13, EnglishStandard Version)

Where is the hope?As ex-airman aircrew myself, onceserving on 206 Sqn, it was sad for meto see the remaining flying squadronsfinally disband. Undoubtedly, the impactof the closure will be felt to somemeasure by all of us. The servingservice personnel that have settled inthe area face the prospects of redun-dancy or posting away. Many havesettled in the area owning their ownhomes with children well established inthe local school system. Many localclubs and associations are activelysupported by these people. And ofcourse, there is the impact upon theeconomy, the local services andretailers. Indeed, even the localchurches will be affected.

At the Lighthouse Church, Forres weface the real prospect of a significantimpact due to the potential loss offaithful members. No doubt pressure isalready coming to bear down uponmarriages and family life in the area. Sowhat is my point you may ask, is thereany merit in painting the inevitablegloomy picture?

Consider the opening verses. Could thetruth that these verses contain possiblyhave anything to say to us in Forres anddistrict? Could this truth possibly carrypeople safely through their particularchallenging circumstances? I believewith my whole heart that it does andcan.

Faith in Jesus Christ literally transformsa person’s life. Such a person is nolonger defined by the nature of theirimmediate, temporal circumstances.Rather, their outlook, aspirations and ex-pectations transcend to embrace a lib-erating reality - the sovereign will of theliving God. ‘All things work together forgood…’. In the light of this, even gov-ernmental decisions are put into per-spective. Man is not in control but theliving God. The Christian gospel is good

news about God’s hope, peace, joy, calling and purpose.

I find it difficult to describe the momentwhen I first believed. It was as if I’d hada veil drawn back from my eyes to seereality as it is. However, the path to thisfirst takes us to a hard, even offensiveplace; to the foot of the cross of Christwhere our sinful condition is revealedbefore a holy God. But once acknowl-edged we’re freed to repent, countChrist’s death as payment for our sinand receive God’s forgiveness andfavour.

Read and re-read the opening verses, slowly and carefully. Do you find theyhave a strange appeal? Do you long tolay hold of the hope that is promised asyour own? This hope has carried manya Christian triumphantly through thetrials of adversity. Meditate upon them;let them work in and over you andmaybe God will grant you mercy andgrace to believe; to see your great needof Jesus Christ as Saviour.

with an arrest & court appearance; 2 cases of

wilful fire-raising, with a youth reported for the

offence; 2 shoplifting cases, both detected

and 8 cases of housebreaking, or attempted

house breaking, again 2 of which had been

detected. PC Skivington encouraged

members of the public to pass on information

to the Police either through the service centre

on 0845 600 5 700 or through Crimestoppers

on 0800 555 111. He said the Pub Watch

Scheme had apprehended some 40 people

for anti-social behaviour & banned them from

participating premises and a ring round

warning system is to be initiated soon to

combat shoplifting increases. Finally he told

us that speed checks carried out have

resulted in 12 motorists being reported for

speeding and a further 13 are being

educated. a campaign, Operation Zenith, is

endeavouring to reduce the number of mo-

torcycle accidents in the region by improving

rider behaviour. Cllr Ferris asked if there was

an increase in break-ins and Cllr Mackenzie

enquired if the police were notified of the

movement of “bad lads” into the area but

didn’t expect an answer.

• Carin Schwartz advised the meeting that the

Moray Small Towns Partnership & the area

Forum had firmed up suggestions for the

Welcome to Forres signs, and showed

examples to the meeting, for their input. She

also described the function signs which were

being considered, and said that 10,000 more

street maps, similar to the last ones, had been

ordered. Wearing her TTF hat she said that a

30 year lease had been negotiated for Bogton

and a LEadER grant had been applied for to

equip their shed with toilets. Tain garden Club

had asked if they could visit the site in June.

TTF also intended investigating a car sharing

scheme for its viability.

• Eleanor Hayward addressed the meeting

and said that she was aggrieved by the failure

of the Moray Council to make a decision on

the sale of the common good land at Bogton,

on the advice of the Chief Legal Officer, and

that it was her intention, therefore, to raise a

formal complaint against him with the Public

Services Ombudsman. She said that he had

failed to prove that statements he made to

sway the Moray Cllrs decision had substance.

• Sandra Maclennan said that following

advice from the Forres Moray Cllrs she had

been in contact with Mr n Carlton on the use

of the plot of land adjacent to the squash

courts which the young Fibees used for

rearing plants. Mr Carlton had pointed out that

there was no formal lease for the Fibees to

use that facility and it was being considered

as one of three sites for a Mental Health

Facility. Cllr Hellyer said that once again the

Moray Council were going ahead with plans,

for common good land, that they had not

discussed with the community. He called

upon the Forres Moray Cllrs to stand up for

the community that had elected them against

officers who thought they had divine right to

make decisions without consultation.

Secretary’s Report

• Letters were received from the Fire Brigades

union asking us to support their stance on a

centralised Fire Brigade in Scotland, & a

Magical Mystery Tour, organised by Paths for

all, on May 19th from 10am til 4pm.

• Friends of the Falconer Museum invited us

to attend the agM, sadly it clashes with our

meeting.

• Emails were received from Mr S Hoath,

Solicitor, Moray Council asking if the Chair of

the Community Council would act as trustee

of auchernack Trust, a nomination to which

he agreed.

• The CC had been approached by the Chair

of the Forres Kayak Club, for support in

applying for a common good grant of £250.

Members unanimously supported the appli-

cation. Cllr Bell asked if we could also support

a grant of £869.31 to repair an unadopted

path, linking Bogton & Croft Road. Members

again supported this grant & Cllr Bell asked

the Secretary to write to nicky gosling MC.

• an email, from Margaret Cowie gave her

apologies for non-attendance & listed infor-

mation on litter picks, including 60 volunteers

who cleaned out the Mosset Burn. The Town

Hall Cinema fund has reached £10,800 and

you can be a friend of Film Forres for just £5

by contacting Margaret.

• a member of the public has requested back

accounts of the CC from 2007 to present day.

This has been referred to the Treasurer for

action.

Chair’s Report

• The Chair asked if there were any follow up

meetings on access to public buildings. Cllr

Bell said that at present the policy did not

include common good property.

External Groups Report

• Cllr duncan said that Mt dora Students

would be here from 12th June to 12th July

• Cllr Mackenzie said that a draft lease was

nearly ready for nelsons Tower and the Trust

had applied for LEadER funding to continue

working on the Tolbooth which was now

empty of archives.

• Cllr Hayward queried the Moray Cllrs as to

the holdup by the planning department on the

development of the Castle which was ap-

proaching a year since it had been submitted.

• Moray Cllr Creswell said that she had

spoken to Mark Cross re the new Local Plan

and it had been agreed that the invitation to

make submissions had been slanted to de-

velopers, rather than Community Councils

who normally commented after a plan had

been drawn up. an invitation was extended to

address the Community Council and area

Forum on the subject.

Treasurer’s Report

• The Treasurer informed the meeting that our

account stood at £1040.78

A.O.C.B.

• Cllr Kennedy, supported by Cllr Hellyer,

asked why tradesmen’s vehicles were

banned from the dump when carrying private

waste, they felt this would encourage fly

tipping.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held on Thursday

21st July.

Firstly I mustrecord my thanksto everyone whogave me theirsupport at the

recent election and pledge mycommitment to taking forwardthe issues that matter to thepeople of Moray, and toScotland as a whole.

The Scottish Parliament isbuilding up its own traditionand history and part of that isthe connection between theparliament and the people itrepresents. In the official

opening ceremony on 1st July,Local Heroes nominated fromeach constituency will takepart in proceedings and I amdelighted to be welcomingForres Community WardenMargaret Cowie, who has beennominated by the people inMoray.

Margaret's dedication to herlocal community is recognisedin the many activities that sheputs her heart and soul intoand she is highly deserving ofthe nomination.

I had the great

pleasure recently,

of joining

members of the

A b e r l o u r

community for the re-dedica-

tion of the town's war

memorial, which is a focal

point for the community,

situated in the square.

The Alice Littler Trustees and

the wider Aberlour community

are doing fantastic work main-

taining important landmarks in

and around the town, and the

War Memorial is a really

excellent example of their

efforts.

It is well worth a look if you're

passing through and there are

some excellent local shops and

places to stop for a bite and

some relaxation. It's great to

see so much activity in our

communities, especially with

projects like the war memorial

restoration, which really pulls

the community together.

“ ”“The Scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.”

How good is good enough?Just how good does a person have to be to earn eternal life? According to God’s standard (the only standard that really counts) a person would have to live an absolutely perfect life to earn eternal life. Not one lie; not one bad thought; not one disrespectful word to their parents, etc. Perfect.

Do you think you have fullled and maintained this strict standard? Romans 3:19 says, “...what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.” You see we have all broken God’s law and the whole world stands guilty before God! No one can argue that they have lived a perfect life. No one … not you, not me, no one.

We don’t like to think about it, but it’s true …we all have sinned – broken God’s law (Romans 3:10, 23). We have ALL oended a holy God, who will by no means pass by sin.

How bad is too bad?Maybe you think you have sinned so much that there is no forgiveness for you. God is Holy, but He loves to forgive. God loves you and is not willing that any should perish. He showed his love toward us in that “while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

To those who turn from their sin and receive Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, He assures us, “I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:34). . We do not have to go to that place of torment which the Lord Jesus calls hell.

NO ONE IS SO GOOD THAT THEY DON’T NEED TO BE SAVED. NO ONE IS SO BAD THAT THEY CAN’T BE SAVED.

So, none are without sin, but none are without hope, either. The Lord wants “all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4). A sinner in Bible times asked the question “What do I have to do to be saved?” The answer was simple, yet profound, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31).

On the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ was satisfying the just demands of God’s law against sinners - He was made sin that we might, through him, be made righteous. In order for God to no longer see us as guilty hell-deserving sinners, and t us for heaven, we each need by faith to personally accept that Christ died in our place. God’s redeeming love for sinners is found only in Christ, and the sinner is out of Christ.

Put your trust in the nished work (death, burial, and resurrection) of the Lord Jesus Christ, and God will save you by faith in His Son and give you the gift of the Holy Spirit to enable you to live for Him and know Him as your Lord.“...if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Be done with your pride and bow your knee to the Lord Jesus. Only when a sinner turns from his sin and bows to Jesus as Lord and Saviour, can he have eternal life.

No matter how good you think you are or how bad you think you are, the Lord saves all those who come to Him in faith. The Lord Jesus says “ him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).

Reject Him no longer. Eternity in Hell is a long time to remember that you rejected Christ.

JulyThe mention of dolphins for most folk conjure up images of far flung exotic destinations and warm tropical seas. However, residents of the moray area are blessed to have

a pod of one of the world's favourite mammals, the bottle nose dolphin, living on their doorstep. Estimated to number around 130 individuals, the Moray firth dolphins are regularly spotted from both land and sea.

Whilst they can be seen (or not) at any time, you will increase your chances of spotting them by paying attention to tide times. Microscopic marine life such as plankton drift on the tides, fish follow the plankton and dolphins follow the fish. You will normally find most activity on the rising tide and from personal experience, being at Chanonry point a couple of hours after low tide, when the tide reaches it's fastest flow, has never failed to deliver sightings for me. Spey bay is another excellent vantage point, plus a number of boat operators offer trips out on the firth to view them. For tide times, check http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk where you can get 7 day tidal predictions.

Whilst the dolphins can be found in the firth all year round, the summer months are usually more reliable as they feed on the runs of salmon returning to our rivers to spawn. They are a very social animal usually found in schools of up to 15. The females give birth to one calf every few years and births can take place at any time of year. Gestation lasts around a year and family ties seem to last beyond the weaning stage. For more information on the dolphins, visit the WDCS web site at www.wdcs.org or the visitor centre at North Kessock.

Whilst Moray residents can enjoy this wildlife spectacle so close to home, other species of cetacean can be found by taking a day trip, Perhaps to Skye or Arisaig on the west coast and taking a boat trip. During the summer months, when the seas warm up and the plankton blooms start to drift further north, whales, dolphins and basking sharks follow them to feed in the rich currents that flow up the west coast of Scotland.

The wet and windy weather of late has greatly restricted dragonfly activity, and to date I've had just one sighting of a four spotted chaser dragonfly, before the weather turned. The one benefit of the bad weather has been that, so far the midges have been fairly inactive. I certainly haven't suffered as yet! Hopefully things will settle very soon and I can get out to try the new camera and freshen up my dragonfly and damselfly galleries.

I hope you’ve found something interesting in this article and do let me have your own wildlife photos and stories.

I have had a bit of an obsession with seafood in general and shellfish in particular for some years now having first tasted a delicious spider crab in a French Restaurant in St Malo in Brittany.

The experience is best described as “interactive” involving many weird and wonderful implements to extract as much of the tender meat as possible. It can also be a lengthy process and is therefore best shared with some good friends and good bottle of wine. Shortly after this experience I tasted my first lobster and fully understand why it is often called the King of meats.Imagine my delight when someone told me that fresh local shellfish including lobsters were available near to Lossie-mouth. I knew that the coastal waters along the Moray Firth were a rich breeding ground for shellfish but had always been told that it was difficult if not impossible to buy these products locally as they were all sold for export.Well – the great news is that I was completely wrong. Whilst much of the local shellfish caught along the Moray Firth Coast does indeed go for export there is now a shop outlet in Covesea

Café, near Lossiemouth selling cooked and raw Crab, Lobster, Langoustine and Smoked Mackerel. And who is responsible for this – one lone lossie loon – Dan Flett. Born and Bred in Lossie, Dan has been Creel Fishing (Creel is the local term for the pots used to catch shellfish) for some 40 odd years (starting after and before school at the age of 13!). Local Teacher, Jimmy Stevens, used to pick up the young Dan and take him out in all weathers and taught many of the best fishing locations, which Dan still uses today. Dan recalls that his first unofficial salary for a weeks work was £36 which in 1973 was a small fortune for a 13 year old!Dan was kind enough to invite me out on one of his fishing trips, which was

certainly an experience. Dan shared his real passion for shellfish – who else without a passion would put in back breaking shifts of 12 hours a day (minimum!)? For Dan, Creel fishing is not about the money – whilst he is able to make a living – it is more about using wisely local produce that is just waiting to be enjoyed. Dan has a cheerful and

indeed very healthy disposition which he puts down to the outdoor lifestyle, and the only thing that caused a furrowed brow was discussion about illegal fishers who did not return female’s (hen’s) back to the sea when laden with eggs which shows Dan’s commitment to the future of the Lobster stock.Whilst lobster fishing is indeed hard work Dan sees it as a labour of love and whilst he has had the occasional break for Deep Sea Trawler fishing – his heart has always been with the Creels – and from a personally biased perspective – may this long be the case!Dan’s shellfish may be purchased from Covesea Cafe, Lossiemouth 01343 815454 or direct from Dan himself at the harbourside by calling 01343 813624 or 07854861569.

farming Local is best!

Fresh vegetables, in-season produce all locally grown and hand delivered directly to your door. Sounds too good to be true? This service is now available to the local community through the development of the 'Veg Box Scheme'. Many individual farms have began to offer these types of products, selections of fresh fruit and veg straight from the farm to your household, missing out the middle man giving you more value for money. Local farmer Jock Scott is no different and after years of supplying large supermarket chains with a variety of products, established the company 'Scotgro' in 2009, providing the Inverness-shire and Moray with hand-picked produce from their farm at Broombank, Auldearn. The company’s main objective is to ensure the freshest products are delivered each week to their customers. Unlike supermar-ket produce, the seasonal vegetables, and fruit during the summer months, only ever travel the distance between the farm and your doorstep. Providing the customers with a selection of only the freshest, locally grown goods, at a competitive price. What's available from Scotgro? Scotgro offer individual boxes to suit each customers household, ranging from the 'Mini - box' packed for an individual or couple, 'Standard box' which can accom-modate two to four people up to the 'crate' option which contains enough

produce for a family of up to seven people. Delivery of the boxes to your house can be arranged on a weekly, fortnight or one off basis. You also have the handy option of being able to pause your deliveries if you are having a week away or feeling 'vegged-out' Another handy element of Scotgro is that you have the option to enter which vegetables you enjoyed and those which you would prefer in your box, ensuring you wont receive anything to your household which will go to waste. Check out their website to view a full range of produce on offer, and if you think this quick and easy way to get your weekly supply of vegetables is for you, order one online now - www.scotgro.com

Dreamingof...

Italy is a wonderful country due to its fabulous climate, enviable gastronomy, fantastic wines, beautiful scenery, magnificent architecture and rich heritage. It has long been a favoured haunt for British travellers. Playgrounds for the rich and famous for centuries, and home to poets, artists and composers, the Italian Lakes are areas of outstanding natural beauty. The largest of the Italian lakes Lake Garda boasts fjord like scenery in the north with gently sloping hills covered with vineyards, olive groves and lemon orchards to the south. Visitors from all over Europe enjoy swimming in the clear waters and enjoy the atmosphere. It boasts a wonderful Mediterranean climate with mild summers and mellow winters, and due to its clear clean waters, is a particular favourite for swimmingHistoric steamers ply their trade between the resorts. Boat and hydrofoil trips are common all around Lake Garda. The Italian Lakes provide opportunities for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing, scuba diving, trekking, tennis and golf. During the summer months the open-air arena in Verona plays host to works by great composers such as Rossini, Verdi, Bizet and Puccini and a visit there can be arranged from wherever you stay in the Lakes District. The Valpolicella region runs north from Verona to the shores of Lake Garda. It has an excellent climate and rolling countryside dotted with cypress and mulberry trees. Gardone Riviera is a pretty resort town situated on the Gulf of Salo on the western shores of the Lake. Sheltered by the mountains, it is blessed with a wonderful subtropical climate. As well as cafes, boutiques and artistic trattorias, there are attractive parks, a lakeside promenade and botanical gardens. Direct flights are available to Lake Garda from Inverness and Aberdeen on selected dates, either to stay by the Lakeside for a week, or to visit Verona, Assisi, Rome, Florence, Siena and San Gimignano as well.

“Why do we never see young Robins?” is a question I am frequently asked at this time of year. Well the answer is simple, we do! But they are not the red breasted version that we are used to seeing.

When young Robins leave the nest they are a spotty version of the adult, a light brown bird covered with pale cream spots. It will retain this plumage until the early autumn when it will start to produce the tell tale red feathers of its first full plumage.Look for the adult Robins bringing in food, usually caterpillars and stuffing the beaks of their hungry brood. You may have a number of chicks in very close proximity to each other

in a hedge or flitting around on a lawn. This brings me to a very important point for this time of year. If you see a young bird on its own in your garden, street or local park, please do

not feel tempted to “rescue” it. Unless the bird is in imminent danger near a road, water or a cat is approaching then leave it well alone. The adult birds will be very near by watching you and getting ready to fly down and tend for their chick as soon you leave. It is very rare for a fledged chick to be left unattended by the adults, it’s just you won’t see them.

Many young birds have very different plumages to the adults - young Blackbirds with their rust brown head, back and breast, Goldfinches with grey faces instead of the distinctive red of the adult, and Blue tits with bright yellow faces all present the birder with a whole new set of challenges in identification and which makes Summer one of the most fascinating times of the season.

So until next month “Good Birding”
