Over the last 20 years, the need to provide players with safer andmore attractive fields at every level has taken on new meaning forgrounds managers, coaches and park managers. This desire isbeing driven by a number of important factors; among the mostcommon are rising player expectations,peer pressure, aesthetics and liability.

Smithco manufactures 10 different models of Athletic Field Conditioners(AFCs) to fit almost any need or budgetand to handle the day to day maintenanceof your fields. And no one else offers the range and quality of implements. But nopurchasing decision should be made without fully understanding the needs and objectives of your program.

First, it’s important to understand that this is a “Grooming System”not a renovation tool. Ideally it should be used on a daily (or regular) basis to keep fields in safe, playable condition. Often, anathletic complex has received less than satisfactory attention for aconsiderable period of time. Fields don’t become “bad” overnight,and it can be difficult to create a “perfect” surface after a few daysof grooming. Although dramatic changes and improvements can be

brought about with Smithco AFCs, it’s usually better to accomplishsmall improvements every day over a period of several weeks. It’seasier on the equipment, as well as giving the operators and supervisors time to gauge the results and implement additional

efforts that may be required. At the end of that time, your fields should be in great shape.

Aer-8 Linear Aeration System

AERATION SYSTEM

• Available in 60" (152 cm) and 78" (198 cm) widths, either pull-type or 3-point hitch mount-ed frame styles. The pull-type kit can be outfitted with hydraulic lines directly to the towvehicle or with an electric/hydraulic power pack. The power pack includes a remote controlto the driver’s seat and a battery-charging cable to maintain charge in the battery throughrepeated use.

• Voids in the soil capture rain or irrigation for maximum moisture utilization and runoff prevention. Fields are lush and green again. Wet spots are opened and evaporation ratesincreased to bring the soil moisture back into balance and the area back into full utilization.
