St George’s College Invitation Athletics Meeting results , statistics and points and allocation

Collegiate Business Society On Wednesday 14 March, the Collegiate Business Society (CBS) had a talk by Mr Derrick McDiarmid on Alternative Energy. It was very informative and the members were able to ask him questions on the future of Alternative Energy in Zimbabwe. The con-clusion was there were many opportunities in niche sectors for new start-ups and some businesses in the sector did not require huge capital outlays. For the alternative energy sector to prosper, the Zim-babwean government need to introduce incentives and write legislation which encourages its use by households and businesses, particularly in areas not covered by ZESA. Solar power was the most prom-ising but biomass was also an option for power gen-eration. In the future it is hoped that households and businesses will be able to transfer the excess power generated to the National Grid to bring down the overall cost of ZESA.

Report on the Inter-Schools Quiz, Wednesday 14 March 2018

Do you know the theme for HIFA 2018 or the term for words that sound like themselves, such as ding dong and purr? If so, you would have been an able competitor at the final Inter-Schools quiz of the term, hosted by St George’s on Wednesday 14 March 2018. Seventeen schools took part and several brought B teams so the Beit Hall was packed. Competition was stiff, despite the fact that several schools had lost their senior team members to the Maths Olympiad, which was running at the same time. The results were as follows: Juniors: First - a tie between Prince Edward A and Ealesvale Third - St George’s Fourth - a tie between Arundel and St John’s College Senior: First – St George’s Second – Hellenic Third – a tie between St Ignatius and St George’s Overall: First a tie between Prince Edward A and St George’s Third - Eaglesvale Fourth - Hellenic
