The RBHS Director of Hockey Mr J Carroll is an old boy of the school who has over 20 years of Hockey experience both in New Zealand and Australia as a player and coach. He was recently acknowledged by Hockey New Zealand for his contribution to coaching.

The RBHS Hockey Academy is a one of a kind Hockey specific program within the Bay of Plenty region.

The RBHS Hockey Academy aims to develop all aspects of our young Hockey athletes, looking at not only the technical and tactical aspects of the sport but encompassing Physical, Mental and Emotional elements to contribute to the overall growth of our boys.

The Hockey Academy is incorporated into the students in-school physical education time allowing them to develop within school hours.

You can expect video analysis of matches and hockey skill break downs, modified games, Hockey specific strength and conditioning, individual performance planning, off-site field trips, mental skills workshops utilising the most up to date hockey training equipment and coaching techniques.

Rotorua is situated in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island and is one of the tourist capital’s of New Zealand. Rotorua is like no other place on earth and this extremely popular tourist destination offers wonderful scenery set among many lakes and forests.

Rotorua Boys’ High School offers an International Students Rugby Academy that has been very successful for many years. The school has produced 9 All Blacks including 4 more recent All Blacks, Liam Messam, Tom Donnelly, Craig Newby and Michael Delany.

In addition we have Old Boys playing for England (Dylan Hartley, Teimana Harrison) and Australia (Richard Kingi).

Rotorua Boys’ High School has been Bay of Plenty Champions 18 years out of the last 23 years.

Rotorua Boys’ High School has been to the National Top 4 finals 6 times and won the National Championship 4 times, in 1998, 2002 and 2003 and 2015. Rotorua Boys’ High School has also won the SANIX Under 18 World Tournament in 2003 and 2004 and came 3rd in the SANIX World Tournament in 2016.

Ngarimu Simpkins was appointed as Director of Rugby at Rotorua Boys’ High School in 2014, his past coaching success includes leading the Ngati Porou East Coast to a Heartland Championship in 2012, and now Rotorua Boys’ High School to the New Zealand School’s National Rugby Championship in 2015. Before becoming involved in coaching, Ngarimu played professional rugby for a number of years and represented at first class level both North Harbour and Bay of Plenty. He was also for a time with the Waikato Chiefs Super Rugby Team, before becoming a rugby coach.

Mr Trembath comes to Rotorua Boys’ High School with 7 years of experience coaching Youth Football/Futsal in our local area. Mr Trembath is an old boy of Raukura, playing football for all his years in Boys’ High teams.

He is the head coach for the Rotorua Boys’ High School 1st XI, which play in the Bay of Plenty Premier U19 Competition while also coaches the Junior A team, playing in the local U16 competition.

Mr Trembath also coaches Futsal (indoor 5 a-side) at Junior and Senior Level too.

‘Old Boy”, Theo Tait brings a wealth of experience and energy to his new role as Director of Basketball at Rotorua Boys’ High School. Active in this sport as both an athlete and a coach for over 25 years, Theo’s involvement has taken him all over the globe in various roles. His major coaching roles at home have included; the NZ Junior Tall Blacks Assistant Coach (qualifying for the World U19’s), NZ U19 Boys’ Head Coach (obtaining a Gold Medal at the Oceania Games in Australia) and NZ U19 Maori Mens’ Assistant/Manager for their Tour to Tonga. Theo also has experience as a High Performance Coach.

Mr Groot is an old boy of Raukura. He completed his tertiary study in Tauranga gaining a Certificate in Fitness and a Diploma in Sport and

recreation.

Over the past 6 years he has been working in Auckland in various strength and conditioning roles. He has had the opportunity to work with

a wide range of clientele from beginners through to elite athletes.

SELECTION POLICYTALENT ATTENDANCE EFFORT IN CLASS

Mr Groot is dedicated to ensuring our boys are able to do fundamental physical movements competently and to show them that exercise can be enjoyable.

Mr Groot will provide support for all our Directors and coaches across the codes as we strive to produce bigger, stronger, faster athletes.
