Sporting Clays - Private Client Range – Idaho

25,000 acres – where to put it?

Although there were acres and acres of land, the course had to be near, but not too near, the residence and accessible in the winter months – this is North Idaho by the Canadian border.

After several days of surveying the land, several locations were proposed.

The first was a clearing with a stream running through it. I proposed building a dam and flooding the area. This was completed, but the owner decided the newly formed lake was too beautiful to “pollute”

with shooting, so it became a water feature of the estate. Another area had to be sourced.

The newly flooded area. Too good for shooting.

So we built a bridge across the dam, and ventured up into the hills. There I found the perfect plateau and managed to define six Sporting Stations and a Compact Clay “cabin” overlooking a valley. The plateau was around 150 feet higher than the lake and a carefully defined road was cut into the hillsides to allow access to the flat area. In the photos that follow I show the Sporting stations and TWO Compact Sporting Decks. The first was installed in 2006, followed by the second in 2010.
